I'm Dr. Nicole Rankins, a board certified ob/gyn. I received a free copy of this book to review. This is a very well written, comprehensive book on eating during pregnancy. There's a thorough yet succinct overview of caloric needs and nutrients, and excellent section on food safety, and a nice overview of common conditions that may occur during pregnancy. This is a great with well researched advice all the way though. Information on calorie/nutrient needs through the postpartum period as well as tasty recipes. This book includes information for a vegan/vegetarian pregnancy as well as for diabetics. I particularly like the section in nutrient sources. So many people haven’t thought about this before pregnancy and this knowledge is invaluable going forward.

Eating for Pregnancy

Coming through the lens of a birth doula with a background in public, I thoroughly enjoy reading pregnancy books; and pregnancy nutrition books are no exception.
I was gifted this book to read and review and I was so thrilled, both with the opportunity and how fabulous the book is.

The breakdown of the four main nutrient groups and subsequent vitamin and mineral requirements and function in the body is incredibly inclusive and mindful of those are not “nutritionally inclined.

As a registered dietitian specializing in prenatal care with Modern Prenatal Classes, this book immediately jumped out to me. Firstly, I appreciate how the writing style is appropriate for the intended audiences - appealing to both pregnant women and healthcare providers. The way the chapters are outlined per gestational age flows effortlessly for the reader while breaking down complex nutritional concepts in simple terms. Eating for Pregnancy, the third edition is such an easy to follow but very helpful book to use as a guide during pregnancy. As a Registered Dietitian, it is a useful resource for my clients. As someone who is trying to conceive, I loved all the breakdowns, side notes and information provided throughout the book. It covers things like gestational diabetes, vegan diets, how to cope with morning sickness, Prenatal Vitamins, calorie intake suggestions - you name it.

I was gifted a copy of this nutrition guide and cookbook as I am an Australian nutritionist who practises in the area of fertility and pregnancy nutrition.

I found the early informational chapters of this book to be very easy to follow, science-based and suitably comprehensive. It's more than enough information for someone who is TTC or in early pregnancy to get all they need to know! I am a Certified Holistic Nutritionist in Canada and reading this book was interesting in that the writer takes a great effort to explain everything in great detail for each trimester which is great. I, however, don't agree with the recommendation to eat margarine and many other very outdated recommendations.

Eating for pregnancy nutrition is such a needed area of information for parents with so much fear-based information out there given by Drs who receive very little if any nutrition training.

I’m so sad I got this book around my 32nd week of pregnancy. This book has so much good info that I wish I would have known way before I even got pregnant.

This book is not just a healthy recipe book for pregnant women. No. This book goes waaaay beyond that. It goes into detail of what is happening to your body in every stage of pregnancy to what the ideal actions a pregnant woman can control, from the right amount of exercise to the perfect nutrients and food she should ingest and when.

Eating for pregnancy established some great, easy recipes that folks who may not have cooked a ton previously can embrace. I love that it breaks it down month by month, so nothing is overwhelming. This book is a great resource for moms-to-be and beyond! What I enjoyed the most was learning about the stages of pregnancy and the development changes the baby goes through during each of those times. Packed full of simple, to the point recipes for all stages of pregnancy. It gives you exact recipes for the month of pregnancy you are in and tells you why the recipe is beneficial. It also explains what nutrients you need and what they are, food safety tips, and covers caring tips for your baby and yourself in the fourth trimester. As a birth doula, I often get questions from my clients about nutrition during pregnancy. I enjoyed that this book is a well-rounded resource for them. It talks about what types of foods a pregnant person should be eating and when they are most beneficial. It also has lots of recipes in case you need ideas on how to incorporate these foods into your diet. It even includes options for special diets (vegan, vegetarian, allergy friendly, diabetic)! This book is an excellent evidence-based resource for moms to be looking for information on a healthy diet during pregnancy, broken down by month, including healthy recipes and recommended foods and nutrients. It includes great information on gestational diabetes and recipes for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. It also includes a postpartum section. Great to reference as moms move throughout pregnancy!

I was given a copy of this book and find it to present an extremely balanced approach to prenatal nutrition. I love the breakdown of recommended foods based on each month of pregnancy and the overview of vitamins and minerals in the early chapters is extremely useful. Overall, this book is ideal for someone who is able to eat most foods and is looking for a straightforward guide to eating well during pregnancy!

This is an outstanding nutrition guide and cookbook for pregnancy. I especially appreciate the month-by-month layout. The way the authors have outlined the different milestones and ways to nourish your body is great. They take it a step further by providing info and support postpartum as well.

This book is extremely comprehensive and makes nutrition easy to understand throughout your entire pregnancy! I’m a pregnant physician and found great value in how organized and efficient this book is. The recipes I have tried were delicious and really incorporate a wide variety of nutrients. I love how the author also tells you why each nutrient is important and also has fun facts about your pregnancy along the way. I was so impressed with all of the detail in this book. It walks you through each month of pregnancy (the babies development, changes in your own body, ideal nutrition, etc.) and the best foods to eat in each month, along with a bunch of delicious recipes. I loved this book! It combines information about baby's development as well as hundreds of recipes that support what your needs. The recipes accommodate gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and low-carb diet plans, and lots of them are easy to make as well.
