Oh wow! What an action-packed story! I totally blazed through this! This short story packs a lot of punch in 7k and grips you right from the first page! The writing was excellent and Moneva was such a kickass character to follow. While running supplies, she meets a mercenary who offers her a chance to make some extra coin during the war and the fun spirals from there! Definitely recommend!

Great introduction to the Weapons Takers world!!

A short prequel to Toric's Dagger, Striking Out tells some backstory for Moneva, one of the characters from the main series. It's short, fun and dark, like TD, and if you haven't read the main series, this might just inspire you to check it out. ...more

This short story gives readers a glimpse into the past of a couple characters from The Weapon Takers saga. It is a quick read with a solid dose of action and gives readers a sense of the story to come.

A quick and entertaining read about Moneva and how she moves away from her current employer for the benefit of her own "striking out". It shows a little glimpse into her past.

Despite the few pages, it has action, intruige, and fun dialogue! It is a very fast-paced story. However, people be warned - there is plenty of swearing to enjoy 😉

Characters suck you right in! Fast moving. I loved the interaction between Moneva and Herin at George’s House bar. At first I thought they were both pretty jaded characters but Herin slowly showed a bit of a soft side as things went on, coming to Moneva's aid later. I hope to find these characters in Toric's Dagger or somewhere in the series. There are some effs and other language you should know are there but no divine epithets. It's a great prequel he gives away if you subscribe to his newslet ...more

Great characters and action packed into such a short story. It was very well written and I was hooked in by the main character, Moneva. She’s full of attitude and knows how to handle herself. I really got a great feel for the world and look forward to reading the series.

Moneva worked for someone trying her damnedest to make a living hauling arms and other necessities for the army who were fighting a war she did not even approve of! After one of her deliveries she meets Herin, a mercenary fighting for the same army and they decide to pull a stunt to make some money for themselves rather than for others when all hell is set loose! I really enjoyed this very fast paced short prequel, and love the characters of Moneva and Herin. Both seem to be rogues, up for a goo ...more

This is a short story, a prequel to a series of books by Jamie Edmundson, and I received it free from his newsletter. It also happens to be the first ebook under my belt! Anywho, the intent of the author was a fast-paced narrative, and I dare say he accomplished that. Too well, I think. Events took place and escalated a bit too fast, and I never really got a sense of the characters before it was suddenly over. Neither could I appreciate the foul language. On the upside, the first paragraph was a ...more

Jamie has always loved a good story, whether real or imagined. He grew up in the south of England before moving to the north, where he worked as a history teacher. He still lives there with his wonderful family, but now spends his time writing, mainly about people hitting each other with swords.
