One of the most important twentieth-century German authors, and almost completely forgotten ... His style is distinct and sophisticated, his language poetic and austere, deeply earnest ... If you are interested in German literature beyond the accessibility of Heinrich Böll and abhore the vanity and self-importance of Günter Grass, try this - there's fire under the ice !!!
