The summer camps of the American Canoe Association provide an intriguing and unusual setting for an exploration of colonialism, class, gender and race in turn of the century North America. Jessica Dunkin’s impressive, richly theorised, empirically well-developed exploration of the 13 sites used over this 30 year period shows the ways in which, in a distinctive setting, these trajectories of power came together in day to day experience to show its social and spatial (re)production.
