. . . a cozy romantic mystery with suspense from The Mystery Angel Romances series. An angel hidden in every book, waiting for the reader to figure out who . . .
Kellen Brand's inheritance turns out to be a whopper -- one dilapidated farm in West Virginia and one guardian angel! Since Kellen is convinced no sane woman would choose to live in Riverside, she vows to sell her farm and quick.
Her handsome and reclusive neighbor Luke Thornton must block the farm sale or risk exposure of his family's secrets. While Kellen has located one potential buyer, she faces a town full of objectors. Someone is trying to frighten her off, and Luke is forced to step in and rescue her more than once.
Unfortunately, Kellen can't seem to stay out of trouble. She stumbles onto a clandestine hazardous-waste-dumping operation next to her farm, and she prays Luke has one more rescue up his sleeve. It's her only hope of staying alive.
Unless her mother really did leave her a guardian angel . . .
Book 2--No Angels for Christmas--coming April 2019 Book 3--The Angel and the SEAL--coming June 2019
Petie spent a large part of her career working at Walt Disney World -- "The Most Magical Place on Earth" -- where she enjoyed working in the land of fairy tales by day and creating her own romantic fairy tales by night, including her new series, The Cinderella Romances. She eventually said good-bye to her "day" job to write her stories full-time.
These days Petie also spends her time writing sequels to her regency time travel series, Lords in Time, and her cozy-mystery-with-a-dash-of-romantic-suspense series, the Mystery Angel Romances.
Petie shares her home on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee with her horticulturist husband and an opinionated Nanday conure named Sassy who made a cameo appearance in No Angels for Christmas.
In small towns, secrets abound and Riverside is no exception. When Kellen and her brother inherited the old family farm, not only hadn’t they known their mother still owned it, but neither wanted anything to do with the harsh memories it evoked.
Determined to sell the old place, Kellen wasn’t prepared to discover her mother’s promise of a Guardian Angel was real or how badly she would need him/her. She also hadn’t planned on finding Luke, the rancher next door who alternated between giving her heart palpitations and raising her blood pressure. But seriously, how could she fall for a country farm boy after she’s seen the lights of New York? Yep, sell and say goodbye to Riverside…
Too bad someone is doing their best to hide dark secrets in the old mill, in an effort to force both Luke and Kellen to sell, when all Luke wants to keep his land, his family secrets and just maybe, the fiery female with no sense of self-preservation.
Petie McCarty’s NO COWBOYS NO ANGELS has a truly intriguing mystery to solve and a “Yes, they are made for each other,” romance that will bring smiles to readers’ faces! Kellen is a woman with a mind of her own and a lot on her plate who is trying to forget the pain of the past, but is Riverside the same as she remembers it? Is it all bad?
Luke has secrets to keep and he is so much more than the farmer Kellen thinks. His devotion to his family is heartwarming, even if maybe he should just speak up! (Guys!...)
If you like your cowboys riding up on his trusty stallion in full control and just maybe a little arrogant in the saddle, (because Petie McCarty describes these scenes so well) and your heroines full of sass and self-confidence, one who has your back against the odds, you are going to love NO COWBOYS NO ANGELS! Sweet "fade to black" romance that sizzles with possibilities and when you discover WHO Kellen’s Guardian Angel is, you are in for a real treat! Nope, I did not see that coming…but it was perfect!

When Kellen’s mother died and left her and her brother the run-down farm in West Virginia, the last place Kellen wanted to be is back where she was ridiculed for being poor, her hometown. But off she goes to clean it up and sell it to a uber-rich developer. But the longer she’s in town, the less her childhood memories haunt her. She reconnects with friends and meets handsome cowboy Luke Kenyon, a man who comes to her rescue more than once.
Luke is drawn to Kellen for reasons unknown to him. She’s a spitfire and makes him lose his temper at the slightest provocation. But he tells himself he won’t wind up alone and bitter, like his father. But circumstances throw him and Kellen together, and when her life is threatened, he acts. Can he let down his walls and let love in or will he continue to be stubborn like a mule?
Wow! What a gripping and emotional romantic suspense. Petie McCarty weaves a romance between two strong personalities with plenty of chemistry between them to light the whole county on fire. The dialogue made me laugh as well as cry. Emotions run high in this story and there’s many layers too. It’s about coming home, dealing with childhood bullies and letting go of the past. It’s about forgiveness, trusting in love and choosing your destiny. Trying to figure out who the guardian angel may be was a bonus. A must read, especially for romantic suspense fans. Can’t wait for the next book in the series!
Favorite Character/Quote: Luke. I found him to be mysterious yet every woman’s book boyfriend. He’s got layers and his protective streak comes out in weird ways whenever Kellen is near.
This mystery romance keeps readers in suspense regarding the romance and the mysterious angels all the way through the steady to fast paced plot. The characters are strong, compelling and easily draw readers into their story which is a pretty rocky romance as this relationship starts off on the wrong foot. The heroine and hero both have some communication issues and the heroine is a bit hard to relate to in some circumstances because she has such contradicting traits. On one hand some of her issues are easily understood and her motivations make sense but then in regards to others they aren’t really clear but the she keep readers interested in what’s happening. The sparks flying between Luke and Kellan keeps the relationship on the edge as readers can never guess whether those sparks are going to lead to another clash of wills or a steamy kiss.
The suspense of the relationship also builds due to another suitor for Kellan, one she has a past with and is still close to. The danger and excitement of the story comes from some unscrupulous characters that won’t hesitate to do violence and a mean spirited sheriff. Readers are kept guessing whether there really is a guardian angel and just who he or she is. While some of the events that happen during the excitement and danger of the story is a little on the predictable side, the story is most entertaining and during all the revelations made toward the end of the story readers will want to read the next intriguing mystery in the series.
Whether it is a romance or a mystery, I love small town stories, and Petie McCarty’s No Cowboys No Angels is both. This romantic suspense is filled with empathetic townsfolk, nefarious bad guys, and questionable land developers.
At the reading of the will, Kellen and Joey learn their late mother never sold their old farm. The siblings weren’t expecting to inherit given their meager beginnings, and they certain want nothing to do with the homestead that only holds bad memories. The clear-it-out-and-sell-it-to-the-land-developer plan isn’t as quick and easy as they initially thought. Naturally, the extra time in Riverside allows Kellen to work through some of her bad memories as well as capture the attention of a few gentlemen in town.
Ms. McCarty provides her readers with an emotionally gripping story about two strong, stubborn characters. Their attraction to one another is as evident as their attempts to deny that attraction! The smattering of secondary characters is fantastic. They are stereotypical small town people—friendly, kind, and above all nosy. I loved David, the childhood friend who is now the school teacher. His devotion to creating a better academic experience for the local children is heartwarming.
The plot is well paced and the tension builds steadily through the story. Ms. McCarty nicely weaves together the romance, mystery, and dealing with childhood trauma aspects of her tale. Those plot points are perfectly blended and balanced, and the story flows organically. No Cowboy No Angel is a clean romance, and a delight to read.

I really enjoyed reading this book and totally had a smile on most of the time I was reading it!
This is the second book I’ve read from the incredible writer, Petie McCarty. Last year I had the privilege of reading her book, “Betting on Cinderella,” which is part of the Cinderella Romances Book Series and I totally loved it, so I was very excited to read her latest work, even though it falls into a different book series.
Petie’s writing only continues to improve, grow, and expand with each book! I know she will be an author I will continue to read over the years!
This book focuses on Kellen returning to her hometown that she hasn’t visited in years to sell the home her mom just left her and her brother in the will. Kellen is eager to sell the house and get out of Riverside ASAP, but she starts running into problems, objections with the sale, nosy townspeople, discovering hazardous-waste-dumping, someone trying to frighten her off, oh and a sexy rancher neighbor that comes to her rescue multiple times. It’s clear that this simple and quick trip to Riverside is going to be anything but that!
I really enjoyed the small-town setting of Riverside and how the town itself is almost like a character and an underlying theme as well throughout the book. I used to live in a tiny town when I was younger. We had two flashing stop lights (rest is stop signs) and whenever one went out (which happened more than it should), it would make the front page of our paper lol!!! It was headline news lol – so yes, very small town!!! Anywho, it was interesting to see how the townsfolk can play such a huge role in the selling of Kellen’s house and how they can significantly impact the town’s decisions. Even though they were divided on the issue of selling to the developers they still caused issues for Kellen.
I really liked the main characters, Kellen and Luke. They were likable, kind, and genuine. I loved that Kellen was a strong, smart, sassy, driven female-lead – those are my favorite type of characters and role-models. I loved that Luke was that sweet, sexy, stubborn, charming, charismatic cowboy – oh there were times I think I was drooling over him when he rode up on that black stallion lol!!
I also loved Kellen and Luke together – they fit well together and just had that instant chemistry you could actually feel sizzle off the pages!!! I loved how they pushed each other’s buttons and at times drove each other crazy lol!!
I think the author did a fantastic job on her character development as these characters were so real and personal on many levels.
It is clear Mrs. McCarty does not know how to write a boring, cookie-cutter character. She writes her characters with depth, that have emotional baggage, are dealing with real-life struggles, and are working on over-coming personal obstacles. She writes real-life characters that face real-world problems. Which is one of the reasons I love her books, because I know when I read it, I will be able to easily connect with the characters and possibly even grow with the characters in the story.
This book has a creative storyline, fantastic writing style with meticulous and vivid scenes, well-developed characters, is steady paced, and keeps you completely entertained through the last page.
The author’s writing is strong and eloquently detailed. She really provided so much detail in her writing that is was easy to picture! There were a few times I found myself totally caught up in the story!
This book genre is marketed as a contemporary romance and yet the authors found a way to throw in a mystery, intrigue, and suspense element to the book. It definitely added a fascinating twist to the story!
There are some predictable scenes. However, there are still a few unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming! Bet you’ll be shocked to find out who Kellen’s mystery angel is!!! I know I was!!!
This book is book one in the Mystery Angels Romances Book Series. So, it can obviously be read as a standalone. Mrs. McCarty listed that she has two additional books in the works for this series that are to come out later this year. So, I would definitely encourage readers to check out this book sooner than later before the rest of the series comes out, so you don’t fall behind.
For me, this book absolutely worked!!! It hit everything I look for and need when I am reading and reviewing a book!!!
All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend not only this book, but this author as well! I was truly impressed with the quality of writing, intriguing storyline, and excellent character development! I will definitely be continuing to follow this author and check out her upcoming books – especially the two new impending books in this series out later this year! I think all contemporary romance readers will like this book too! So, be sure to add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!

Full disclosure, this is not my first book by Ms. McCarty. She is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Just saying…
This book, y’all. There is so much that I absolutely loved about it. Its got romance, mystery, suspense, action, small towns, two very wounded characters, the mob, guardian angels and a horse named Windsor. Yes, there is a horse. At times, I swooned, gasped, laughed and generally had a great time reading Luke and Kellen’s story. Please be advised this a sweet romance and I hate to use sweet because you can feel that if these two had the opportunity, they would jump each other but Ms. McCarty doesn’t write like that. There is a slow building romance between them, once they get past all the misunderstandings at the beginning of the book.
I didn’t know what to think of Luke from the start but in the end, he definitely won my heart. I can totally understand why he did in terms of the town and his dad. His secret is pretty big but once you understand why he did it, it makes sense and your heart will melt at the same time. His story is part of the mystery that will just melt your heart. The suspense part is the mob and I just loved how Ms. McCarty wrote this plot point. I laughed, cringed and in the end, it made me think about things. The henchmen were laughable but well thought out. And trust me, when all is revealed in regards to the mob, I was shocked. The web was much bigger than I thought.
Kellen has a right to feel like she does when she goes back home. Growing up with her brother and mother wasn’t easy. I’ve been to the Appalachian Mountains on a mission trip in high school and I totally got it. I saw firsthand the poverty and the lack of funds for most people. Yes, I used an outhouse because it was all they had. I learned to appreciate what I had back home; so I understood what she, Joey (her brother) and David went through growing up. The other characters like Sally, Vera, Rick, Hank, Corazon, Nuvida, and even Falcone were just awesome. Each one had their own part in the book and were very well written characters.
Lastly, there are guardian angels in the book. Duh!!!! Trust me, you will NEVER figure it out. And no, it is not Luke. Even though, he pulls Kellen out of enough jams throughout the book. Ms. McCarty has written a book that had me from the beginning and never let up. I can’t wait to see what the next book in the series is about. Yes, I’m that invested in the series already. She had me at guardian angels and a cowboy on a horse named Windsor.
Returning to Riverside opens up a can of worms for Kellen as the past comes storming in to swamp her with memories she would rather not face. Whilst Kellen would like to forget the past, Luke is trying to keep it alive resulting in this unlikely pair finding themselves on opposite sides of the fence in the sale of the property Kellen is desperate too make. Compounding the problems facing them, there are strange activities taking place in the area and threats from unknown sources. Kellen’s mother promised her a guardian angel, but the angels appear to be falling down in their responsibilities. The story comes to a surprising conclusion, but did leave me with a number of questions. The romantic attraction between Luke and Kellen was strong but their constant jumping to conclusions and arguments made it difficult to make the connection they both wanted. The story is well written with romance and suspense and a small town full of people who each had their opinion on the outcome. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
With her mother's death, Kellan has returned to her hometown to sell her family ranch. The town is divided on whether she should sell it to a developer. Luke doesn't want her to sell her ranch, but his strong approach might put Kellan off. Meanwhile her mother promise a guardian angel to watch over Kellan in her will. I receive a free copy of this book from eBook Discovery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is a good romantic suspenseful book. On the negative side, I didn't like how Luke blew hot and cold about Kellan. I also didn't like all the assumptions that Kellan and Luke made about each other. On the positive side, Kellan and Luke are two strong well-matched and accomplished characters. The romance is sweet and the suspense grows through the book. There is a nice twist at the end that I didn't expect. I like this book and plan to read more in the series.
No Cowboys No Angels is a story filled with mystery, painful memories, embattled relationships, and new hope. The book contains many twists and turns, while incorporating steady pace, good world building and well developed characters too.
Luke and Kellan come from very different backgrounds and struggle with the rocky start to their romance. I kept my faith that they would eventually conquer the obstacles of miscommunication and unprecedented circumstances to find their HEA. I hope other readers enjoy their story as much as I did.
Kellen goes to her old family place, intent on selling the place, but her neighbor Luke has other ideas. A good mystery and romance, and must admit the identity of the angels was unexpected. Overall a good story, but at times a little confusing trying to keep it all straight. Might just be me, otherwise one I highly recommend.
I do! This book was such a fun read! Once you start it you don't want to put it down. Brings back ones memories of how things were growing up and wanting to leave the town behind. It has family, romance and sometimes not such good people! Do yourself a favor. Buy this book. You will not be disappointed!
I love me some cowboy. This had a couple twists I didn't see coming. I thought it was done well and it was refreshing to read a book that wasn't just sex .. its recommend it highly
A tearjerker! For those who survived the "joys" of small town life with its bigots and bullies, this is the one for you. McCarty's writing style has progressed and advanced. Her characters are rich and full, layered and complex. This one's a winner! Wild Women Reviews
After her mother dies, Kellen Brand and her brother Joey inherit the family homestead in Riverside, West Virginia that they thought she had sold. Luckily they already have a buyer in mind, a Mr.Corazon, but Kellen must head to West Virginia to get everything in order and pack up the place.
Unfortunately being in Riverside also brings up memories of a difficult time where their family was without much money and struggled to get by. Yet, Kellen's mom also tells her that she has left her a guardian angel to watch over her while she is there and it turns out she may need the angel more than she ever thought.
And now in Riverside there appears to be ghosts and some other unexplained things happening that Kellen wants to get to the bottom of - even if it puts her life in danger!
Then Kellen meets the handsome Luke Kenyon, a sexy cowboy, and wonders if he may be her angel as he always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Will Kellen fall for this angel or will her past relationship with childhood friend David Bainter put a damper on any relationship?
This was the first time I have read this author and it definitely will not be my last. I found that I was very engaged in the book and wanted to know what happened next. I loved Kellen in that she had both so many good and bad memories from their home and had to really come to terms with all of her memories.
I really enjoyed the relationship she had with Luke and the banter between them. Their relationship was fun and full of sarcasm that was really enjoyable to read. I really hoped things would work out with them as they tried to hide their feelings but really cared.
The ending surprised me with who all was involved but their was definitely one I was not surprised with as a bad guy. I really liked when I found out at the restaurant who was involved with that side of it and it made me super happy!!
Looking forward to reading another one by this author for sure!

Review
This is an intriguing story that is captivating from the start. The characters were well developed and realistic. You can really feel the main character Kellen as she takes you on a journey of rediscovery to the place where she grew up. The plot was very suspenseful and in no way predictable.
The story was well written, the characters were well developed and believable. The book is not your standard romance novel. It also has excitement, a few twists, and a bit of mystery. It’s definitely worth a read.
Review copy provided by Reading Alley in exchange for a honest review.
At first I had a bit of trouble getting into the book but that may be due to me being sick but after a chapter or two the book became really interesting and charming and I couldnt put the book down. The story drags the reader in and it is a very nice mix between love, thought, and laughter. I did laugh a few times and it lightened up my day.
The characters and surroundings is very well developed and "real". Everything feels very real and you feel that is has gone a lot of thought and feeling to make everything so realistic and believable as it is. I really enjoy reading books where you are in the story and you are so into it and everything is so well developed that you think it is real and you are their. And this book really has that. It makes the book so much better and it is one of the really strong points of the book.
The language is very good and well used. I normally like to talk a little about how the language is used to drive the story because a book can be better or worse depending on the level the language is on and how the language is used. Petie uses a very good language and it helps drive the story and it is fitted for the book, the story and the time period , which I find very important. The language is of a good level so even a non English native speaker understands and picks up new things, I know because I am not a native English user.
I really really enjoyed this book and give it top marks. It has everything a good book should have and it very well written with very well developed characters and places. it feels so read and I can so see myself going back and reread this story in the future, that is how good the book really is. So I can really recommend this book to others.
Kellen Brand never thought she would go back to West Virginia but that is exactly where she finds herself stuck. She’s only back to sell a farm her mother left her. She’ll be in and out or so she tells herself. She had a really rough childhood there and has no intentions of staying. Life seems to have other plans for Kellen. Mysterious lights, a jerk of a sheriff and a weird but handsome neighbor named Luke keep things interesting while Kellen tries to ready her farm for sale. I love it when two characters get off on the wrong foot. Kellen and Luke are like grade school kids who can’t seem to be nice to each other. They fight each other at every turn but it just makes their romance more entertaining. The theme of a guardian angel is present throughout the book. Kellen is told that her mother left her a guardian angel. She starts to think it just might be Luke since he keeps saving her life. When both of their lives are in danger they could definitely use the help of one. I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

3.5 stars Angels, criminals, thieves, cowboys, and hometowns nothing gives you more twist and turns than this book. Kellan goes back home on the wishes of her dead mother not knowing that the place that holds nothing but bad memories. Luke and Kellan go through a lot in this short story. This book definitely has a lot of twist and turns that some points have me shaking my head at what was going on. This was something new for me isn’t something I would normally read but it wasn’t something I could see myself reading but why I didn’t hate it I also didn’t love it. This is a story of finding what you don’t know is missing. If you love a story with more than a little drama in a small time this is definitely the story for you.

I enjoyed this book more than I expected-romantic suspense isn't my favorite genre but it was the best "N" title I've run across. The identity of the mystery angels took me totally by surprise, the suspense kept me uncertain and reading, and the romance well-rounded. 4 stars instead of 5 because I won't look for the next mystery angel book, because I can't keep up with all the good authors I encounter.
This was a good romantic suspense, complete with guardian angels. The only downside was the quickness of the love between the H/h without a whole lot of sexual tension.
I received this book free through the goodreads giveaway. I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't too thrilled to read it by looking at the cover, but I guess you can't judge a book by the cover!
After her Mothers' death, Kellen Brand returns to the homestead in Riverside, West Virginia where she and her bother Joey grew up. Her Mother left the homestead to Kellen and her brother and instructions to do what they wished with it.
Memories are good and very bad and Kellen has decided that the best thing to do is sell to the developer who has shown interest in the homestead. After meeting with the Attorney, Kellen decides to stay at the homestead to clear it out in readiness for the sale. What she didn't expect was the gorgeous cowboy who heats up not only her body, but her temper as well.
Luke Thornton visits his Grandfathers' ranch to check on it as well as his Father and upon meeting Kellen, he has found he doesn't wish to return to New York quite as often as he does to run his business empire.
But something is amiss at the homestead and with a crooked Sherriff and something fishy going on at the boathouse and mill, Luke is finding it hard to make sure Kellen is safe and with her childhood friend David in the picture Luke is questioning whether Kellen will ever be a permanent part of his life.
This is a sweet read with some mystery and mayhem as well.
Thanks to NetGalley and Backlit PR for the opportunity to read and review.
Well written romantic suspense. I enjoyed the plot and the author’s writing. I look forward to reading more books in this series. I received an arc from Netgalley and this is my unbiased review.
