Never read a book that crashed and burned so hard, so fast. Frustrating read.
And to think, more than halfway through, it was steadily on a 4-Star rating on its way to securing a spot on my favorites shelf...
I was so engrossed in the events and in the characters, I was honestly powering through this book and devouring its pages... until I got to around 75% of it, and everything just went downhill.
I mean, what honestly was that? A hospital without cameras pointed at the controlled substance locker? How the main Hero just so easily fired the Heroine on sight without thorough investigation?
How the Heroine just took it, and by some miracle, this underaged minor (son of the Hero) somehow magically just turns up at the Heroine’s door and has a “plan” to clear her name? A plan that she so blindly followed?
And then upon reuniting with the Hero, just totally submits and rolls over - practically begging for her job back/jumping the second the Hero offers it back.
Like where is the dignity?
This book, like I mentioned, was steadily making its way to my favorites pile until around the 75th percent mark. I didn’t know it was possible for a book to (quite figuratively) crash and burn so fast (especially after maintaining such a good pace through more than half of the book)—
But this... instead of a glowing review, I’m actually leaving a disappointed one.
Also first book to be added to my “did not finish” pile for 2019 because... what the hell was that poor excuse of an executed “accident” scene anyway?
This book had so much potential, too. Shame.
