Let me start by saying that I love Captain Hook. He's one of my favorite characters. And this is the first Hook "prequel" that I've read, so I think I had certain expectations, which might be why I have somewhat mixed feelings about it, even though I did enjoy it in the end.

Omg the WORLD-BUILDING. I'm not a die-hard fantasy fan, but I love books that create cohesive, intriguing, and unique worlds to explore (think Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Gregory Maguire's books). CAPTAIN absolutely does that. It's absolutely a PETER PAN prequel, but it's much, much more than that. If you happen to be a big PAN fan, you'll notice lots of fun Easter eggs in CAPTAIN, but even if you couldn't tell your Tinks from your Hooks, you'll enjoy the adventure of this book.
