Let me start by saying that I love Captain Hook. He's one of my favorite characters. And this is the first Hook "prequel" that I've read, so I think I had certain expectations, which might be why I have somewhat mixed feelings about it, even though I did enjoy it in the end.

What I loved was how the author really accounted for everything in the original: the pirates and the Jolly Roger; Tinker

Omg the WORLD-BUILDING. I'm not a die-hard fantasy fan, but I love books that create cohesive, intriguing, and unique worlds to explore (think Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Gregory Maguire's books). CAPTAIN absolutely does that. It's absolutely a PETER PAN prequel, but it's much, much more than that. If you happen to be a big PAN fan, you'll notice lots of fun Easter eggs in CAPTAIN, but even if you couldn't tell your Tinks from your Hooks, you'll enjoy the adventure of this book.

It's been a little while since I read this book so I've forgotten some of the details. But what I do remember is not wanting to put this book down and being very disappointed when it was over (although now I see it may be a series!). I was a bit apprehensive reading it because of how well known the Peter Pan story is and being unsure how a prequel would depict their world and tie everything together.
