I really enjoyed this. The back and forth was good but at a certain point I was getting annoyed with it. The steam was great.

Idk how to feel right now…

I really didn’t like this book for the first 60%-70%. I really hate the insta love trope. I can somewhat handle the insta attraction trope, but this acting like they’re soulmates after 1 day?! In a romantacy… maybe! But in a contemporary romance? Jail ✋🏼

This was also 3 books in one, which made me want to bang my head against the wall repeatedly, but kindle doesn’t give the option to read them separately, so here we are 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was bored and just wanting to put the book down so bad, but I’m a stubborn bitch who needs to finish what she starts sadly…

But that ending? It’s basically exactly a Romeo and Juliet ending and I could not stop crying 😭
My eyes are puffy, my nose is blocked and I need to catch my breath. I just ugly cried for the last 30 minutes while being silently judged by my cat… and I regret nothing lol I needed a good cry!

Overall, I gave it a 3⭐️ instead of a 2 because that ending was really good!

Tropes:
Romeo and Juliet retelling
Dark romance
Mafia
Detective
Forbidden love
Self-sacrifice 😭

ENJOYED, LOVED!

I absolutely LOVE this trilogy. Romeo & Juliet is my all-time favorite play, but it's hard to find re-tellings that I actually enjoy. I ENJOYED this re-telling. I totally lost my mind while reading. The entire story just builds and holds you until you've gone insane, and then concludes so perfectly. I actually wish Shakespeare had thought to end it the way Dark Romeo did. It is amazing!

OH.MY.GOD

This was a long read, but oh so, SO worth it!!

My anxiety reached new levels of high!

Everything was so well done! I was so animatedly involved in this book while reading, my Fiance was unsure how to react except just leave me be and leave snacks and hydration when needed 😂

Thank you @siennablake , that was WOW!

I don't have more words right now ... My heart is still adjusting 😂

She died? He died? They lived?

It was okay. Maybe we should stop retelling the story of Romeo and Juliet though. Just a thought

Also I hate an epilogue. Specially this one. I found out what happened three months later, then another three months, then another three months, then a year later. What the helly

A detective, daughter of the chief of police and a mafia man, son of a notorious crime lord. There first encounter stirred feelings between them. This stranger wanted her the moment he laid eyes on her, he needed her, in a way like never before, made her feel things, that she thought she would never feel. When he contacts her, it sets off a chain of event neither could anticipate.

Julianna takes a daring chance with Roman, controlling and possessive in his own right, he gives her something more than she could have possibly imagined, one night of scorching, searing unbridled passion. Afterwards they hold no hope of ever seeing each other again, but a curveball puts him in the path of the woman he thought would not grace his presence again, there worlds colliding inexplicably, and thus begins the story of two troubled souls, meeting as one.

There attraction is undeniable, they cannot deny what went on between them, how they made each other feel, but when they came together it was electrifying. Julianna, lives under the thumb of her controlling father, who won’t give her the chance to prove herself as a detective. Roman, living with the pain and trauma of loosing his mother at an early age, secretly home for his brother’s funeral, has his hand forced by his father, as the last heir to the Tyrell empire, to join the fold and become who he was born to be.

As they get to know each other, they learn things about each other, as their relationship continues to develop, so does their desires for one another, desires that could burn them from the inside out.
They both give, seek, and take each other’s pleasure, dominating each other’s heart, mind, and body, bending themselves to each other’s will, taking their wants and needs beyond heightened passion, giving each other pleasure, to be taken in any way possible, fulfilling their needs sensually, giving each other everything and more.

These characters will impact you in different ways, there story will have you crying, laughing, saying what the f!@# to those moments where you hated to love, but love to hate, grieving with them as they fought, healed, and loved. This book has it all – the love of family, gang warfare, criminal masterminds, forbidden love, passion, one career driven woman, one alpha dominant mafia man, bone melting steam, there love a slow burn that will break your heart and put it back together.

There is a perplexing tangle of hurt, anger and denial, powerful in themselves, secrets, lies, deception, manipulation, pain, and motives, which becomes all the clearer with those deep revelations. The different point of views told a telling story or heartbreak, love, and loss. It holds so much mystery, adrenaline seeking suspense, slow burning passion and romance, dark, yet intriguing, fire, murder, violence, vengeance, friendship, lust, loyalty, trust, where sacrifices and choices are made to serve a higher purpose beyond all reason. It will hook you, have you turning the pages to find out more, with themes and triggers that will test any reader, reading this story, it enables the readers to really connect with the characters.

Their story was raw and sensual, as it was powerful and confronting. It was fast paced and thrilling, it made my heart race and soar to unfathomable heights. The author knows how to write, to ensnare her readers to ensure they will come back for more, if I could come back for more I would.

And those s€x scenes, in and out of the bedroom were downright sensual, the filthy dirty talk and language an absolute turn on, daring, explosive, wrong, physical, provocative, possessive, controlling, oh so steamy, deliciously wicked, dirty, hot, beautiful, dark, naughty, raw, powerful, passionate, wet, dominating, and wild, and there happily ever after is everything a reader could want and more.

Super disappointed to be writing a low review because the premise of this book is really interesting and I think it could have been great but there are so many problems with it.

Roman/Roman Tyrell is said over 1000 times in a 614 page book. His name is constantly being said, multiple times in one page. Not just Roman, but his full name. It was really distracting and annoying by the time I gave up reading this.

The author repeats many words over and over again. It’s frustrating because it could have been great but the writing was just completely off. Some of the dialogue is so unbelievable as well.

Julianna was the most incompetent detective I have ever read. She has no self preservation instincts, she’s desperate for Roman in a really embarrassing way. She gets herself into dangerous and extremely unethical situations so there’s no way she even cared about the job she claims is important to her.

The foreshadowing is really heavy handed at times. Lots of the “mystery” of the plot is over done, making it difficult to care what happens. The author had some moments of really deep ideas and seemed like she was hitting her stride, then it would go back to immature dialogue and inner monologue.

I think if this were rewritten with proper editing and a more established writing style it would be a great book with a super interesting take on Romeo and Juliet.

Book 1: Love Sprung From Hate
“Look past the last name I was given. You know me.”
WOW! Pulled me from the start and didn’t let go. Intense tale of two people from opposites sides of the city, living in two different worlds, yet struggling with the same grief. A fierce passion, intense connection from the first meeting which intensifies. A cannot work/forbidden romance between a police detective (and the daughter of Chief of Police) and a reluctant Mafia Prince has me rooting for them. Told through dual points of view, we have insights into their thoughts, their past and their present. Developed characters, setting, and plot. The author left me a bit scared of the mafia father as well as his scarfaced goon, Abel. I’m eager for the continuation of Roman & Julianna’s story. While the story doesn’t end with this one, each of the books in this series releases within a month of each other so you’re not left hanging a long time for the continuation. Loved it!

Book 2: The Scent of Roses
Roman and Julianna are intense, fire and lightning, cannot get out from under each other’s skin. It is a push-pull/hot-cold relationship as they know the danger of being together. They fight each other as well as themselves trying to stay away from each other in this forbidden romance. So far, their secret affair is safe, but you have the sense that something is coming and it’s not good. Each time Julianna tries to convince him that she is on his side, knows that he is not like his father, she puts him in danger. Well-developed characters written so you feel what they’re feeling. Another intense, sexy, suspenseful read in the Dark Romeo series leaves you eager for the final book in this trilogy.
Book 3: Hanging in the Stars
“It was an irreversible love. An unbreakable love. Completely unconditional. Beautiful and terrible all at once.”
Hanging in the Stars is a fantastic finale to the Dark Romeo series. The series covers a two-year span in the forbidden love of Roman and Julianna. They had been pushing and pulling against their feelings towards each other, and falling in love. They were fighting against each other because they weren’t meant to be together. From love, loss, heartbreak, betrayal, secrets, loyalty, violence, and danger - this story has it ALL! Sienna Blake takes you on a roller-coaster ride for this conclusion. Hanging in the Stars is fast paced, thrilling, emotional read. As in the previous two books, the characters are well-developed and written so you feel what they’re feeling. Another intense, suspenseful read. The series was the first I have read from Sienna and I will definitely check out her other books.

Thank you Sienna Blake for the ARC of this box set . These are my thoughts and only my thoughts on the story. No form of payment was received.
Love Sprung From Hate

“Look past the last name I was given. You know me.” This is my favorite line in the book, because I know exactly how it feels to be judged by a last name.

The chemistry between the main characters was off the charts. I love how this author wrote this mafia book because it is so different then any of the others I have read. There is suspense, love and hate. The supposed bad boy and the good girl. I love Roman! I need the next part like now! I need to know what happens next.
The Scent of Roses

This continues right where book 1 Love Sprung From Hate left off. You need to read that before this one.

The chemistry between Roman and Julianna is off the charts. There is so much to this story and I don't want to give anything away.

This is a must read book filled with drama, violence and some really hot sex scenes.

Hanging in the Stars

You must read books 1 and 2.
I received an ARC, these are my thought and only my thoughts. No payment was received in any form.

It is so hard to write this review with out giving anything away. This was a great end to Romans and Juliannas story.

I wasn't sure after how book 2 ended if these two could over come what happened but they did. Then something else happens and I am still thinking how can these two overcome anything else. Will they?

This story is an emotional, it has everything from betrayal to loyalty, sadness to happiness, a bit of everything. I highly recommend this trilogy.

4.5 stars for Dark Romeo Trilogy by Sienna Blake.

This is a dark take on Romeo and Juliet . I am a huge fan of Romeo and Juliet , so I was a little leary when starting this story , however I am also a big fan of Sienna Blake’s book so I went for it. I am so glad that I did. I think I highlighted more quotes in this trilogy then any other book I have read. I just loved every page of it .
“My only love sprung from my only hate! To early seen unknown, and known to late! Prodigious birth of love it is me , that I must love loathed enemy.” Blake starts us off with this quote from Romeo and Juliet and I don’t anything could have described this books better.
Julianna has had a rough life. Her mother was murdered at a young age and she became a cop to try and solve the case. He father is the police chief and hates Roman’s family . Roman left his ruthless family as soon as he could for college . His brothers murder has brought him back . He thought he could come to the funeral and slip out without notice . Well everything changes after that .
“I don’t know if you ever met a women who made you crave her, who ….. Was like a drug. That you couldn’t get enough of. A woman you wanted to protect and worship always.”
God this trilogy just pulls you in . It keeps you on your toes all the way till the bitter end. It just build the drama and suspense between these families and Roman and Jules. I loved every word of this book , even the tears it made me cry. You cannot go wrong with this trilogy .

This was genuinely one of the best books I’ve read in a while. The writing was so well written. I don’t usually see this in short/ two pov stories but the way we got to know the side characters was well done. I was never one who enjoyed the Romeo & Juliet story but this made me love it so much that I’m now looking for more retellings of it. I really enjoyed everything about Julianna & Roman, the love they had for each other, the angst, the push and pull everything was just so good. My only thing is I hated when they’d doubt each other’s love for each other like they’ve shown each other time and time again they love each other and even when they were playing a role they should’ve remembered that. I was literally screaming at both of them in their povs “THEY LOVE YOU, YOU IDIOT don’t ever doubt it”. But I also understood why considering their job occupations.
Also I thought it was funny they found the innocent project together cause I don’t think that’s something in character for Roman but whatever makes Julianna happy he’ll do ( which makes him such a real man ).
Overall I really loved this book and give it 5 stars. I hope to come across more books like this cause it really was an amazing read.

I was hooked on this amazing trilogy! Sienna Blake is a storytelling genius, and I was captivated right from the get-go. Being a newbie to her stuff, I was seriously impressed with her writing skills. The story unfolded like a super cool movie, with scenes playing in my head like a blockbuster.

The steamy parts were seriously hot, and I couldn't flip the pages fast enough. The characters' clever comebacks added this awesome charm, making the whole thing not just intense but also super fun. Each character's quirks fit right into the story, creating a bunch of personalities that felt totally real.

After finishing the trilogy, it stayed in my head like I just watched the most thrilling movie ever. Sienna Blake is officially my new fave author, and I'm pumped to read more of her awesome stories.

Roman Tyrell had me all worked up as I pictured how he charmed and teased his lady. Julliana Capulet was a total boss, and I loved her strong personality. The way she loved and stood up for her man, flaws and all, was just fearless.

In short, Sienna Blake rocked my world with this trilogy, and I'm ready for more!

The book it self could have been much shorter. in my opinion jules should have been shot in that alley, it would have spared two innocents lives, and it could have been an interesting storyline - how would two of the most important men in her life react to that incident?🤭

i also could not stand the main characters. i red somewhere in the book that jules delt with people calling her out on nepotism. Well after reading the book there should be no other reason as to why she kept her job. I have never red about someone so unproffesional in her line of work. It’s honestly emberrasing.. i just sat there thinking «oh my god, Get a grip girl»😳

Roman…. No. I like my fictional men one way or the other. Either good with a hint of primal instincts (if you know what i mean🙂‍↕️) or morally grey/bad. This whole «im bad, im good, im bad» gets really old really fast, for gods sake pick a side..

on the back of the book it says «Shakespeare never looked so sexy», weeelll the book has like 2,5 sexscenes… let’s just say i expected more. I just feel like this book had every potential to be Very good, but unfortunately the storyline just did not do it for me😕

sporadic brilliance

I grabbed this because so many people were raving about it. Unfortunately the MMC was not what I thought, he was 3 characters I one, randomly appearing in a chapter to do his thing.p, poorly.
There were multiple times when the characters were thinking back on what was said and the quote was wrong. Repeatedly. Even after going back to THAT SCENE, it was wrong.

The only constant character was the FMC.

There was random information that appeared near the end but wasn't scattered anywhere else to tie it together...at all.
2 seperate sections the sentences were incomplete, making me read, re read, then read again, with NO possible way of it being correct.

The editing was mediocre and if I was Sienna I'd be getting a new one.

The multiple personalities of the big bad mafia guy with daddy issues was embarrassing to read and I'm a woman!

But let me say, there were about 20-30 times in this story I thought were SO DAMN BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN!!

It was enough to keep me going to the end, but I'd love to see a second version of this, one where it is cohesive enough to enjoy and believeable enough to get some serious attention.

Love Sprung From Hate – Romeo has returned home for the funeral of his brother however his father wants him to stay to take over the family crime business. It has been a constant struggle for Julianna to prove that she deserves to be a cop and not just because her father is the police chief. She has finally been assigned a real case however the only problem is that her suspect is her one night stand, Romeo.

The Scent of Roses – Although they know that they are on opposite sides they are unable to resist their feelings for each other. The only problem is that no one in their lives would want them to be together and how are they willing to go to fight for their love?

Hanging In The Stars – The only certainty in the conclusion was the epic love between Romeo and Julianna and how no sacrifice was too large for the other. The finale to their journey is filled with suspense, secrets and twists that draws you in and keeps you captive until the last page where we hope that their fate is different than the original Romeo and Juliet.

Electric, that is the connection that Roman and Jules have when they first meet. These two intense, driven and strong characters are drawn to each other which makes it hard to stay away. When they do give in, it is combustible between them and lasts for 24 hours. Whew! When their daily lives clash, she is a Detective and he is the son of a crime lord, well everything becomes very complicated. Roman has worked for years to stay away from his family, he doesn’t want their darkness to invade his life yet his father has other plans. Jules followed in her own father’s footsteps and became a detective. When her father, the Chief, finally gives her a big case to investigate, she never expects to come face to face with her off-the-charts one-night stand, Roman. This romance fits the summary of a Romeo & Juliet saga as our characters, from opposite worlds find a connection but their families are dictating a different path. Is there any chance for a HEA?

Best Retelling of Romeo & Juliet

The words of Shakespeare never go out of style and this re-imagined version of Romeo & Juliet will blow your mind. Sienna takes their story to a whole new level of lust, love, passion, commitment, betrayal, & forgiveness.

Julianna & Roman are perfect for each other but he’s a gangsters son and heir and she is the police chief’s only daughter and the detective who has worked many murders and investigations surrounding Roman’s family.

This Trilogy will have you on the edge of your seat and rooting for their love to conquer all. These books are filled with love and devotion. These characters will stay with you long after you’ve finished the trilogy. Another amazing series by Sienna Blake! Happy Reading!!

Star crossed lovers

Roman and Julianna’s paths should never have crossed. He, being the son and heir to the thrown of the corrupt Tyrell family. Her, being a young detective and the daughter of the Police Chief. One steamy night together sealed their fate.

I loved this retelling of Romeo and Juliet. Even knowing the original story, this modern version held me on the edge of my seat. I read the trilogy in one sitting!

I think that the push and pull of “I love you, I hate you” was a bit drawn out in book 2and probably the series could have been condensed to a duet instead of a trilogy. Still, the series was a great find! 4.5 dreamy stars.

Oh wow, what a roller coaster of emotions and a wonderfully written story based on Romeo and Juliet.
The subtle charters and linked storyline, kept me guessing if the fates of Roman and Julianna would be the same as R&J.
The barn shooting out had me heartbroken for Julianna.
When I got to chapter 31, I had to sneak a look further on to see if Julianna died and then I saw: “Chief’s daughter Commits Suicide”. I was so angry that they weren’t going to have their happy ending, but I kept on reading.
Then I finally got to this part: “Roman?”... and I let our a massive sigh of relief.
The ending of the story was just beautiful and well deserved happy ending.

Well, I started out not really liking what I was reading. For me it started a bit slow. I kind of felt like Roman could have escaped his father if he really wanted to. Of course it would have been a new identity and living without the love of his life. As the story progresses through the next 2 reads, it became clear to me that walking away wasn't so easy for a man who still lived in his boyish years. The end of the trilogy brought all the hanging bits together and a life that none would expect. I grew to love this story very much and I am sure that you will also.

Top Notch Trilogy!

I LOVED this series from start to finish. It was a perfect combination of sex, love, hate, mystery, sacrifice, and above all sobbing beauty! Sienna is a talented writer who sucks you in with the first chapter and doesnt release you ( if at all btw) until the very last word. A modern day Romeo and Juliet. Its Shakespeare meets the Mafia. Love. Love. Love. Don't miss out on this trilogy!

Great Book

What a fab book and how could I not love Roman for not wanting to be a mobster and wanting a normal life, Julianna is a fab character and I have loved their exciting and dangerous story.
However Nora & Nonna were two other great characters, this story does have drugs, guns, kidnapping, torture and murder like all good mafia stories do but that last bit where Roman read the headline I was saying No No No WTH 😱
I won’t spoil it on here why I was saying that.

Overall a Solid Read

I think I really gave it 4 stars and not 5 because I felt like the last book I barely read because in my head I had to know how it would end, especially since the Romeo and Juliet ending is well known. I also felt like the character names were silly. I feel like you can have the same Romeo and Juliet plot without being so beyond obvious with strange twists on the names.

Overall though it wasn't a bad read.

Story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nothing more exciting than star crossed lovers or as we know it now - enemies to lovers. This book has all the feels with a whole lot of spice.

The twist and turns that the MMC and MFC go through taking you on a rollercoaster ride. You know the story of Romeo and Juliet which leans you towards certain expectations but then you are thrown in a whole different direction. The chemistry between the MMC and FMC is on fire!

This is a long read, so be prepared.
