EDGE OF PERIL is one of Ms. Barritt's most recent releases. This is a mystery / suspense that is not part of a series -- or if it is it is the first book in a new series.

Harper hears about a serial killer in this small Tennessee town when a friend emails her about it. And Harper believes she knows just who it is - only problem is, her suspect is dead. But how can she convince the town sheriff that she knows the killer,

Luke is skeptical but with no other leads and no clues the killer could be a g

"He was worse than a ghost. He was real."

Young women are turning up dead in Fog Lake, Tennessee and the killer is as illusive as a wisp of smoke. Sheriff Luke Wilder has very few clues, if any at all, to follow up on .. . . until a curious bit of information from an outsider comes to his attention.

Harper Jennings is sure that she knows who is on a killing spree in the idyllic small town of Fog Lake; more than likely it's the same person who tried to take her life just three years prior

Wow, that was intense! 4.5 stars! Probably RTC.
Edge of Peril is a bit darker and grittier than the usual Christy Barritt book but by no means does that make it any less good. It was awesome and, wow, what a page turner!

The very first sentence perfectly set the mood for the entire book and pulled me right in. The truly twisted villain and the constant nerve wracking guessing game of who The Watcher actually was had my heart racing. The pace was lightning fast and had me speeding through the pages as quickly as possible.

I really enjoyed the

Definitely a different story for the typical Barritt novel, BUT I loved it. I really enjoy reading stories with a serial killer who keeps up the killing. I love watching the heroine run for her life. In this story, Barritt has the heroine mention who she thinks did it and then she left you guessing for the rest of the story if the heroine was correct. The book moved at a fast pace. I had a really hard time putting the book down. I can't wait to see what else Barritt writes in this series.

This is my new favorite series from Christy Barritt! (In the interest of full disclosure, every new series from Barritt is my favorite . . . and then it becomes a co-favorite series.)

Highly recommended!

Don't read this alone and at night. It will creep you out. Harper thinks she knows who the serial killer is in this mountain town. She thinks it is her adopted brother but how can it be? He was supposedly killed in a traffic accident. She thinks something is fishy is going on and he did not really die in the accident. Lots of twists and turns in this book that kept me reading until the end of the book! I hope the author writes some more books in this series soon.
Uhhh, wow. That was amazing, but terrible and scary at the same time! But I guess murder-mysteries are supposed to be like that. But still ...

I'll talk about the characters first ... they were really nice! (Ha, most of them were anyway.) Luke and Harper are really good together - once they figured that out, of course. I loved seeing Luke - he's the Sheriff in Fog Lake - in action and him and his team trying to figure out who's murdering these people.
Harper's a journalist, but she doesn't come to
Over the last year, I have found myself a big Christy Barritt fan after devouring "The Worst Detective Ever" series (my personal favorite) as well as a book each of the "Squeaky Clean Mysteries" and the "Lantern Beach Mysteries" (will definitely devour the Lantern Beach Mysteries at some point since the first book was enjoyable). Christy Barritt has a knack for writing books that are clean, suspenseful, humorous, quirky, quick, and downright entertaining. My only complaint in reading some of her ...more

Wow, oh wow! Hang on to your seat because this book will take you for a ride and you will find you need to breathe again and stop your head from spinning!
One thing I realized right after I read the first chapter was, NEVER read books by this author late at night!
OH MY GOODNESS! With all her books I never know who the bad guy is until the end. I think I know and then don't! WOW! She really has fantastic skills!

Evil lurks in the shadows of Fog Lake...

If you are looking for a wild ride where little is as it seems and very few people are as they first appear, where a diabolical hides in plain sight within a seemingly charming mountain town, Edge Of Peril will be a sure hit for you.

I freely confess that I am a Christy Barritt fan, have been for several years, so it really wasn't a big surprise when I couldn't even wait a few days after downloading this book to my Kindle before I just HAD to pick it up an

This book was a new take for Christy Barritt. Although it still kept the mystery aspect that most of her books involve, it was much darker than her usual books and was almost of the horror genre. She managed to pull this off in a thrilling read that could chill to the bone. I was guessing until the end! My only critique is that the main characters really did not need to be romantically involved. In fact, the book might have been better off without it, since it distracted from the main plot. I have read 3 of the Lantern Beach mysteries by this author, and I liked them much better than I did this first entry in the Fog Lake series. I almost didn't make it past the first chapter as I am pretty turned off by graphic descriptions of violence and don't really enjoy reading about the perverted and crazy ideas that go through a killer's mind. Other than those parts, I did enjoy the book. It was a good mystery that kept you guessing about who the killer was, and the main characters were wel ...more

Really Good Clean Suspense

Fog Lake, Tennessee is a quaint little town up in the mountains. Quiet, homey, or at least it used to be. There’s a serial killer on a rampage and he’s hiding in the best place possible - in plain site. Harper hears about the killings from her home in DC and they sound eerily like they could be done by her adoptive brother. The biggest problem is that he was killed in a car crash. Is there a copycat? She is drawn to find out. Sheriff Luke wants nothing to do with her o

Another Winner!

I have read nearly every book written by this author. If you're looking for a clean but suspenseful series, her books are perfect! I have not found any author I enjoy as much as Christy Barritt. She adds romance and complex but relatable characters that become like old friends you want to visit as often as possible.

I really enjoyed this book and will read the next right away. This series begins with the main character, Harper, as she visits a small town believing the killer that

What does a serial killer, a secluded mountain lake town, and Indian lore have in common? Fog Lake, the newest location for Christy Barritt's latest book is the answer. Harper Jennings arrives at Fog Lake to determine if the latest murder that has happened here is connected to her supposedly dead brother. The fact that she is a reporter does not help her with the town's sheriff, Luke Wilder, who does not trust any reporter. I loved the first book in a new suspense series by Christy Barritt! This book was a little more spooky than some of her other series, and grabbed my attention right from the start. Luke is a small town sheriff in Tennessee where there is little crime until the murders start. Harper hears about the murders and comes to town to try to help stop the killer, but her story seems outlandish to Luke. He wonders if she is telling the truth or if she is connected to the murders. This was not a light hearted murder mystery. Christy Barritt wrote it well and it was a nail biter as already but there was a dark psychological aspect that I always struggle with in some of her novels. Unfortunately she's probably based it off a real story and that fact alone is saddening. Real people being hunted and murdered is not something any of us want to think about. While I am glad it ends "happily", I'm thankful for the riding perseverance her books highlight. In the face of debilitati ...more

Fog Lake has had a string of murders in the past six months. Harper drove from DC to the town because she has an idea who is behind the crimes, her foster- brother Billy, who supposedly died in a car accident a few years ago. The sheriff is skeptical and doesn't trust reporters at all but after Harper is threatened by The Watcher he thinks there might be more to her theory. Can the murderer be caught before he kills anyone else?

Better yet: Leave the lights on.

Taking a break from her Lantern Beach & Worst Detective series, Barritt brings us to a town tragedy can’t seem to let go of in her new soon-to-be hit: Edge of Peril. Fog Lake is an idyllic mountain postcard where evil lurks beneath it’s infamous fog, both luring the innocent and punishing the guilty. Readers will bite their nails to the quick when suspicion becomes a way of life as this creeptastic thriller seeps into the

This book starts with a scary scene and holds you in its grasp for the whole 300 plus pages. The murderer, called the Watcher, tells the reader what he is going to do. You feel the anticipation and are on the edge of your seat the whole time. Harper Jennings, a journalist, is sure the murderer is her brother Billy. Sheriff Luke Wilder is not so sure. The events in this book bring the two together. Each scene is scarier than the last. You must read it to find out whodunnit! Christy Barritt gave m ...more

This book was suspenseful with a touch of creepiness. However, it was not gory.

A small community appears to be the target of a serial killer and Sheriff Luke Walker knows his small force will be stretched too thin. He will need help to catch the murderer. However, when a young woman—and a journalist—shows up in his office stating she knows who the killer is, Luke doesn't immediately take the bait.

When it appears Harper has become a target, Luke needs to determine if she is telling the truth or j

Another really good mystery with very likable characters from Christy Barritt. She has quickly become one of my favorite Christian authors when I want a light mystery to read, with enjoyable characters and a "can't always figure it out right away" plot to the mystery :) Looking forward to the next in the series. I got this one as my Kindle owners loan for November, at the very end of the month (and I've been so busy it's taken me forever to finish it, but the book was great, just my schedule not ...more

This murder mystery will appeal to fans of Mary Higgins Clark since the style is similar. A serial killer targets young women. Can Harper Jennings escape his clutches and help stop the crimes? The story keeps readers guessing and pages flying to get to the end and solve the puzzle of how a guy who’s supposed to be dead could be the killer. I like how the author weaves strands of the various characters lives into a cohesive unit, offering a satisfying journey through the novel. I received a copy ...more

I really liked this book. I didn’t think I was going to. The first few pages felt a bit stilted and strange. Now at the end, I wonder if that’s h9w the author wanted it to feel. It was a bit scary and I don’t read scary stuff at night so I had to put it down and even that is a good sign this was a good book. I thought I had it figured out a couple times and thought rather smugly, she made this too easy. Uh—I was wrong. Good mystery. Good dash of romance. Just a good story for a good price on Kin ...more

Courage isn’t the absence of fear. Journalist, Harper Jennings comes to a Smokey Mountain small town with a fear that she knows who has committed multiple murders. Will anyone believe that she was his victim years ago? As the mystery unfolds, Sheriff Luke Wilder doesn’t know whether or not to believe this newcomer. Is she telling the truth and if so, will she survive in this town? Thrilling mystery!

Fog creeps in

Every Christy Barritt book draws me in for the adventure of being in a different place being a different person long enough to solve a mystery, The characters reach out to pull you in to their town, their story. This has a truly frightening killer, a genius of the evil variety, but who is it? So many suspects! I'm glad this is book one and not a stand alone because I want to return to Fog Lake, TN to see if Harper and Luke can build a relationship.

The best of intentions!

Harper had the best of intentions when she came to Fog Lake, to help authorities catch a killer. A killer she believed she knew. Will the sheriff accept her help? Will she be able to help before the killer finishes what he started when he tried to kill her years before? Be prepared to not being able to stop turning the pages until you answer those questions and more! Great book!
