My hand writing has never matured past third grade and I have a notorious chicken scratch. My signature is a NIGHTMARE. SO I got this book with some trepidation, I've always admired other peoples skills with hand lettering but I never thought to seriously try it on my own. This book contains practice sheets and easy to follow along diagrams of different letters and fonts. Filled with lots of tips, examples, and detailed instructions; even I could follow along. Clearly my attempts were nowhere as good as the authors but they were marked;y better than anything I'd ever done before!I don't know if I'll ever get good enough where I don't have to follow along, but I don't even care. This book is LEGIT!

Hand lettering has always captivated me. My school workbooks were all adorned with fanciful letters and bright colours. In this new age of keyboards and voice recognition I find I spend less time actually writing at all. This book is a wonderful refresher into the art of hand lettering. It would make a perfect gift as it not only provides examples, practice and several fun projects. I received a review copy of this title from the publisher. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I've check out many lettering books and shared them with you (including a bunch this year) and they are definitely books that teach something you can ALWAYS use! it doesn't matter what pens you have, you can always use the concepts of hand lettering to make your script look better!

This book not only shows you the different alphabets, it shows you when writing SENTENCES with the fonts (see above), which letters should be accented to make the font come alive! That is something you don't always get! The instruction is very solid, but easy to understand. PLUS, you get plenty of practice pages with the font's, so you can start practicing right away (see below)!

projects
I love that they have included SO many projects in different media as well! This really helps you to see ALL the possibilities of what you can do, once you learn hand lettering techniques! This is a really good started book, and perfect for gift giving, or keeping for your own personal use!
Thanks to Callisto to providing me a review copy!

I have been doing hand lettering since September of 2015. I have amassed at least 30 hand lettering and calligraphy books. I always find something new in each of them. Sure some of the tips and techniques are in all the books but each author brings their own personality and teaching style to their book. I love that there are 9 practice alphabets. The projects she included are simply and well thought out. Even as a seasoned lettering artist I find myself reaching for this book regularly when I need inspiration or a bit of a refresher.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book provided to me by the publisher.

I have been on the bullet journal train for over a year now and the most daunting part is seeing all this wonderful handwriting out there and mine is crap. This book is such a great learning tool for Hand Lettering. I have already learned so much just by sitting down and reading through it. I have yet to use the techniques but as an informational it is already great.

The book is broken up into four sections - the basics, learning some alphabets, projects, and how to create your own alphabet and style. Each section is super easy to read and understand and there are a lot of wonderful visuals as well that really helped me to learn about the parts of letters (Want a peek? Amazon's Look Inside feature shows a good section). There are a bunch of practice pages as well and if you need more there is a link for downloadable sheets too.

They way this book was put together made me feel like this is something that I can handle and do., and I really appreciate that. It seems like a practice that is simple enough for everyone and that is what it is about, practice practice practice. Joanna also goes one further and through all of her practicing and experience she has formed these tips and tricks, so throughout the book they pop up in the margins to help further. I really loved reading all of them and it made me feel like I have such a jump-start on this technique.

If you have been interested in learning more about Hand lettering, this is an amazing starting point and I already recommend it. I can't wait to practice with it and finally have one of those journals that I can show on my instagram!

This book makes it easy to get started with some lettering. I love the practice pages, and the link to download more is a plus! From basic strokes to fancy lettering all makes sense now. There are some great projects included, and I'm looking forward to making them! I am so happy I received a review copy from the publisher because now I'm lettering!!!
