Ashling still reels from her parents’ disappearance. Are they dead or just captured? The Breasals (Irish immortals) use all their resources to track down her parents. She feels the weight of responsibility now more than ever before. As the cauldron, she should be able to sense her parents but alas, all she can sense is her own isolation.

Dierdre, Ashling’s sister, is coming into her own powers as a banshee. Like Ashling, she’s trying to feel her way through her newfound powers and responsibilitie

Layers upon layers of intricately woven story between family, friends, and also dimensions. Sterling really left some cliffhangers in this installment, along with some love, some heartache, some skepticism, but there is also a lot of hope. I think Ashling makes some pretty big mistakes, and the love interest seems absent from most of the book, but hopefully there will be some more character development in the next book as well. I am looking forward to the next book to see how the story progresse ...more

Be transported into the land of Ireland, where mythical creatures exist in other worlds. Ashling, had come to Ireland with her mother, father and siblings which was described in the first book of this series. She has experienced so much and with Aengus Breasal's help, has discovered this other world and learns to develop her own powers along with her sister Deidre.
I loved the interaction between Ashling, her sister and twin brothers and it pulled them all together. When her father and mother go

I loved The Stone Awakened! I’d been waiting for Book 2 in Judith Sterling’s YA fantasy “Guardians of Erin” series, after the fantastic first book The Cauldron Stirred, and I was not disappointed. The Donoghue family’s adventures continue in this excellent continuation of their story.
In this book, the Donoghue children, aided by figures from Celtic mythology, search for their missing parents. I love how Sterling combines modern real-world characters with Irish myth and folklore.
I don’t want to s

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"The Stone Awakened" is the second book in the "Guardians of Erin" series.
Having read the first book ("The Cauldron Stirred") more than a year ago, I was surprised at how quickly the story came back to me. The characters helped with that a great deal. Since they felt like family by the end of the first book, it kind of felt like a family reunion!
The writing, as in the first book, has real warmth that welcomes you right in and holds

This was another beautifully written book in the Guardian of Erin series. I enjoyed the Cauldron Stirred a couple of months ago and was excited to continue the adventure, and I have to say I liked this one even more.

A few things stand out. First, the characters from book 1 continued to be developed. This book explored more of the sibling relationships between Ashling and her younger sister and twin brothers which I really enjoyed. I also am loving her relationship with Aengus and their sparks o

Recommends it for: Any reader wanting an excellent read.
In this, the second installment of the Guardians of Erin series, turmoil threatens to destroy Ashling and her siblings. There is never a dull moment within these pages as Sterling pulls heartstrings one moment and sends reader's hearts pounding the next with nonstop action.

The tale's flow pulls readers in like a whirlpool and doesn't give chance for a breath until it catches in the reader's throat and chest by being hit by the all too soon end. Vivid characters that are so easy to relate to tha

Shelves: young-adult
This story is a delightful return to Ireland and the otherworldly magic that captivated us in the first book. I thoroughly enjoyed the love triangle aspect of the story (Lorcan- need I say more?), but it was the Donoghue siblings who stole the show and left me wanting more. Needless to say, The Stone Awakened is a wonderful addition to the Guardians of Erin series.

I loved returning to Ireland (in my mind, though I MUST return in person someday) in this second installment of the Guardians of Erin series. Ashling is drawn to two different men with whom she has a centuries-old past, and her siblings have love interests of their own. Her straight-talking sister, Deirdre, learns how to be a banshee, which reminds me of my first trip to Ireland when I was 18. A number of people--both family and strangers--mentioned that with my long blonde hair, I resembled a b ...more
