Heroes for Hire #18

Reyes's Raina

Rate this book
He once picked the wrong woman… he won’t make that mistake again.
Reyes Drere came from a long line of gardeners. He’d known since he was little which way his life was going to go and it had nothing to do with planting seasons. When he joined Legendary Securities after eight years as a Navy SEAL he’d been avoiding going home and joining the family business.
The family business included an ex-fiancé he had no wish to see again. Her sister was a good friend but there was nothing more dead than a dead love – unless it was a dead ex-fiancé…
Raina is reeling from the shock of seeing the only man she’s ever loved showing up at work one day, his new boss in tow. Ice is all about plants on a grand scale, whereas Reyes appears to be all about denial.
Only the shocks continue as her twin and Reyes ex-fiancé show up dead… and he’s the one with a motive…

Well, as with other books in this series, Reyes’s Raina was a fast-paced book with enough action and drama to fulfil your appetite on both. There were confusion, mystery, heartache, and love. I always love when there’s a bit of mystery in the story, not only suspense. The only thing I didn’t get was why Reyes ever engaged with Raina’s twin. All explanation aside, I think Reyes was always level headed, so his decision was out of character. Anyway, glad they both got their well deserved HEA.

I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher through Booksprout, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.

I find it very disturbing that throughout this whole book the women that was just a totally witch whenever she did something crappy everyone would say that is how she is, so full of passion etc etc but she would say and do such mean things. And I guess being abusive was just the tip of the iceberg. Every line when she did something awful was following with she was just a bigger than anything personality. UMMM NO! She was a horrible person, treated other people especially her sister horribly. SHE IS NOT A GREAT PERSON! End of story. UGGGGGGGG I don't know what is wrong with this writer to just let it slide so to speak. This is NOT how this would go in the real world.

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

Another outstanding read in Dale Mayer's Heroes For Hire series! Reyes's Raina was a stunner! The slow burn, second chance romance was intense and action packed and exciting. The plot thickens just so in just the right place and was engaging from start to finish. I loved how this story was written! Well done and a definite enjoyment to read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Reyes’ s family owns a gardening business that was supposed to be his future. However, instead, Reyes joins the Navy and becomes a SEAL. When, he retires, he works for Legendary Sacrifices. This is a group where retired SEALs are able to continue to use the expert skills they learned as a SEAL. Since this group is based in Texas, Reyes has not been home in years.

When Reyes does return home, he sees his ex-fiance, Reana, for the first time since the end of their engagement. When Reana sees Reyes she slaps him. Although no one understands why she does this, the slap does not bother Reyes. At least, it doesn’t until Reana’s body is found the next day. Then the police immediately consider him the prime suspect for her murder.

Twins Raina and Reana grew up with Reyes. Reyes and Raina decide to join forces to investigate Reana’s murder. Raina wants to find out who murdered her twin sister, and Reyes needs to prove his innocence to the police.

From that moment on, the author creates non-stop action that doesn’t let up until the last chapter when we find out who killed Reana. This roller coaster ride includes many secrets, many suspects and even another death.

As I was reading this book, I was reminded of the adage, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” As Raina and Reye are investigating Reana’s death, they discover that they really did not know Reana at all. Depending on who they interviewed, Reana seemed to display a different personality for each of them. This made it even more difficult to find out who killed Reana and why.

This book is a quick read and is jam-packed with lots of action and intrigue.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

Reyes comes home to San Diego with one of his' bosses, Ice. She is interested in some plants for the pool area on the compound. Reyes' family runs a large nursery business so he was ideal to ask to help her. Reyes had not returned home for two years as his former fiancee is the accountant for the nursery as well as best friend to his mother. Raina is a good friend to Reyes and the twin to his ex-fiancee (Reana) while she also works at the nursery. Way back when, both Reyes and Raina were attached to each other but Reana was jealous and got his attentions first.

These two have to deal with the past, of him being engaged to her sister, as well as two deaths. There was a lot of drama between Reyes and Raina with their family members. The intrigue into who was the murderer was a little dicey and could have gone a couple of different ways but I was able to figure it out this time!!! Yay to me.

It was nice to see Reyes get his HEA with someone that he should have had a long time ago but like he said in the book things happen for a reason and they were two totally different people years ago.

I loved having the dual POV. Being able to see inside Raina's thoughts into how she was dealing with being attracted to someone for them to fall for her sister and how she is adjusting now was priceless. I really felt for her and she was much more relatable to because of it.

There is a bedroom scene with some detail, it was not overly graphic like some books can be. While you don't have to read any of the prior books to read this, I would start at the beginning to really understand the business and closest of the characters.

I was kindly provided this book as an ARC; in exchange for my honest review. This is book 17 of 18 in the Heroes for Hire series. This book centers around Reyes and Raina. Reyes is a newer hire for the Texas based Heroes for Hire paramilitary group run by Levi and Ice.

Reyes Drere came from a long line of gardeners. When Reyes joined Legendary Securities after serving eight years as a Navy SEAL he’d knew he wasn’t going home to work for the family business since his ex-fiancé Reana worked for the business as an accountant and he had no interest in seeing her. Reana’s twin sister Raina (such silly names, reminds me of Rick and Dick Ortega, twins from my high school days)... was a good friend to Reyes that he’d always had a “thing” for, but he had no idea how to approach her even two years after his split from Reana.

I’ll be honest, I think that this wonderful series has hit its peak and now seems almost like the “sparkle” has left. I had zero problem putting the book down (which is completely different from the norm for Ms. Dale’s books). It’s all been done/seen before. The heat level was minimal and almost seemed like an afterthought in order to still qualify as a “romance.” This story was more of a murder/mystery than the expected hot alpha military romance expected. It is well written (a few editing issues (like plain vs. plane), but these may have been resolved by time the book was published.

You don’t really have to read previous books in the series to understand this story, but it may help so you know who the characters are that are referenced. I think this series needs to come to a beautiful end - say with Ice and Levi finally getting married?!

I am behind on this series so I definitely have catching up to do. But this book came up so here I am at the most recent of this series instead of the beginning.

Ice has decided to add plants to the landscape around the pool at the compound. To accomplish this she recruits Reyes whose family owns a large nursery in California.

Now Reyes hasn't been home in two years, not since he broke off with his fiancé.

Nothing says welcome home more than having a conversation with your ex's sister in the middle of the store, and having your ex walk in and slap you.

Reana is a volatile woman, much like Reyes' mother. Women who control with anger and abusive behavior. Her twin sister Raina is the opposite and frequently finds herself apologizing for Reana's behavior.

To Reyes' surprise, his mother steps in to quell the scene unfolding. However the lies Reana has told everyone will soon haunt him.

Things settle and Ice and Reyes go to her father's for the night and Raina heads home. Her mother interrupts her late with calls regarding her sister.

After several of those calls Raina calls Vince, friends with both her and Reyes. He offers to check on Reana and also calls Reyes and sets up a breakfast date.

A suspect now in a murder, Reyes calls Ice who smooths things over a bit, but the circumstances of the initial interview have consequences that complicate everything more.

Reyes becomes Raina's sole support as her world falls apart, and he finds he can't deny his feelings for her any longer. Pleasantly surprised to find those feelings are reciprocated.

Plenty of emotion, suspense and family drama all around as this tale unfolds with just enough heat.

In this latest edition to the Heroes For Hire series, Dale takes Reye’s home. While family is loved and important, it does come with some major complications and issues. Baggage, one would rather avoid than confront head on at times.

An opportunity to further renovate the Legendary Security compound gives Reye’s a moment to reconsider and decide that it’s time to face the past, so he can move on. Even this is fraught with drama and intrigue. To make the plot a little more interesting and complex - Dale gives you the love interest of twins… one an ex, the other someone you care for deeply. Twists and turns are going to be found all through out this story as emotions, drama, tension all unravel.

A wonderful story from start to finish, that is easy to read during a quiet weekend. Very strong characters that need to work through emotional angst, pain, deceptions, and tragedy. Beautifully written. While the relationship could have been developed further inside the storyline… sometimes you need to work through the past and put that to rest in order to move forward.

If you love page-turning intrigue, with a romance that just needed their right time and circumstances to happen, secrets exposed - Dale Mayer delivers with REYE’S RAINA. When trouble and suspicion start to rise and the intent to harm escalates - it will be up to Reye’s to come through and keep Raina close and safe.

Dale also leaves the reader with a few clues of what’s coming next for Dezi… another diamond waiting to be uncovered. Even some new people going the Legendary team. I look forward to reading.

Reyes and Ice travel to California to Reyes's family garden store because Ice wants plants for the new pool. Well when you are with Ice anything can happen and it usually does.

Raina has a twin sister Reana who once engaged to Reyes. Well two years later no one really knows the truth of their breakup and Reana comes storming into the greenhouse and slaps Reyes before he can even say hello. That is the beginning of the perfect storm. Murder, heartbreak, temper flare ups, guilt, awakening, and love.

Raina and Reyes are very similar, both are shy and quiet and they have complicated relationships with their families. She wanted him but her sister found out and sought him out, it was always about competition for Reana where as Raina was happy to stay in the shadow and become her own person. Her sister showed different sides to different people and now she is dead and Reyes is a main suspect.

As the two of them and newcomer Vince, a childhood friend to both of them, race to find her sister's murderer they are twists and turns aplenty.

It was a fast paced story and sometimes was more about Reana than about Raina but that kind of was to be expected as she was the one who was leading a double life so to speak and she was murdered.

I don't want this series to end. The men are heroes but so are the women they fall in love with. And Ice?, well she is an entity on to herself and it was fun to see her in a different setting from the compound.

Reyes Drere's family ran a business around gardening and plants however he had avoided going back after he picked the wrong woman - he had no intention of seeing his ex-fiance. He had been a Navy SEAL for 8 years and since leaving had joined Legendary Securities however when Ice wants to buy plants from them on a large scale he returns home with her to help. However, things start to escalate when the sister he should have picked is nothing more than a friend and the one he had picked turns up dead. Rainareels from seeing the only man she has ever loved turn up at her work one day with his new boss Ice in tow. However when her twin sister turns up dead and the only person with a motive is Reyes things get very interesting. Can he escape the murder charge the cops are determined to hand him, investigate what happened to find the real killer as well as find time to explore what could have happened if he had picked the right sister?

This was a lovely story of how it takes time to sort out your true feelings and who easy it can be to be pulled into something that is not right for you. I loved the ending and that finally everything was fixed to be right. There was a nice twist to the killer's identity and the reason for it. It was great to see another former SEAL working for Legendary find his HEA. Well written and very enjoyable.

Another one bites the dust and finds the one they can’t be without, this one featuring Reyes when he goes back home with Ice to buy plants for the pool at the compound. He runs into Raina, his friend from years ago and his ex fiancee’s, Reana, twin sister. Raina has always been in the shadows of her lively, overwhelming sister and had a crush on Reyes first but as always, her sister stole the spotlight and Reyes. While Reyes is there, Reana is murdered and he is the prime suspect until her life is probed, revealing secrets that even Raina didn’t know. As the investigation continues the two finally have a chance to reveal their true feelings from long ago but first they have to solve the murder before they can begin anew.
A great read with a bit of steam, secrets exposed, suspense and a mystery of whodunit and why. I enjoy these reads by this author as I LOVE the no drama between the couples and no others trying to come between them. I was a bit hesitant on the fact that he was with her twin and now with her, but the past is the past and it should have been them in the first place. I also liked how the author stated that they had to grow and mature and maybe were not ready for each other back then. Now I can’t wait for the next one!

Reyes's Raina is another entertaining book in the Heroes for Hire series. Once again, Dale Mayer created original, interesting characters and a story that keeps the reader guessing right up to the end.
Reyes and Raina both have introverted, calm and sensitive personalities, all the while remaining determined and clear on their life objectives.
The author skillfully surrounds them with a cast of loud, mercurial characters, and the result is a highly-emotional, fast-paced and captivating story.
The plot flows easily, not dwelling too much on the dramatic circumstances that surround the protagonists, but not trivializing them either.
The side characters are also vividly depicted. Their often theatrical behaviors create many cameo situations that give accent to the main storyline, some of them very entertaining.
Needless to say, other members of the Legendary Security team make welcome appearances, led by an exceptionally competent, warm-hearted and masterfully depicted Ice.
Overall, Reyes's Raina is a surprisingly fresh and original story, a pleasant and easy novel that will satisfy Dale Mayer faithful readers and entice new ones.

This is an exciting action packed suspense filled romance story. As Reyes goes with Ice to San Diego,Calif to buy plants from Reyes families nursery he's not really looking forward to seeing his family the only person he wants to see is Raina. He made the mistake of getting involved with her twin sister Reana, even though he really wanted Raina,he didn't think she wanted him.So when Reyes and Ice are at the nursery he's talking to Raina,in comes Reana and she slaps him across the face hard .Rain a is beyond embarrassed by her sisters actions. As the story goes Deana is acting she strange she's not answering her phone an Rain a is worried. When Reyes,Rain a an Vince are having breakfast the police walk in an ask him all kinds of questions about where he was the night before.Rain a defends Reyes she knows he didn't kill her sister. There are so many twists and turns to this story will keep you riveted until the very last page and leave you begging for more.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.

Yes!

Tragic yet so exciting! This story is crammed full of secrets, deceit and lies, I love it!

Twins don’t always share a close relationship and sometimes there is emotional turmoil between them. Most families have issues they are dealing with and some even have very volatile family members.

This author played out the volatile issues in both Reyes and Raina’s families very well. The focus is on the differences between twins and not the similarities.

I really enjoyed Ice’s presence in this story. She lends Reyes the support he needs to focus on finding the murderer and help Raina deal with everything that is going on.

I would have liked to see Reyes and Raina’s relationship solidify a bit more but maybe their journey isn’t finished yet. They do deserve the HEA they have found together.

This story has all the exciting twists and turns to make it a fabulous mystery as well as the hotness we all love to read about. This is another fantastic book in this series that I couldn’t put down until I finished it!

Excellent job! I loved it!

Reyes's Raina

WOW! Another FANTASTIC story by Dale! This story is about Reyes and Raina. Twins are involved. It's amazing that this set of twins were completely the opposite of each other. When Reyes heads back to his hometown with Ice, things go from bad to worse. Reyes's ex-fiance finds him and promptly slaps him hard after only being at his parents' business for a few minutes. Raina's twin sister is the ex-fiance. When she is murdered, Reyes is the primary suspect. As the cops inform Raina of her sister's death, Reyes's mother informs Raina's mother of her sister's death, which prompts her mother to take her own life but Raina finds her and gets her to the hospital only to have her mother did a day after her sister died. Raina is devastated but Reyes is there to help her get through this terrible time. I am happy that these two found their way back to each other. I am happy these two are working on their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job Dale! I would recommend this book.

Seventeen Heroes for Hire books so far, and all snowflakes – each unique and beautiful in its own way. Reye’s Raina addresses the perceptions and perspectives of twins who look alike but have vastly different personalities and appetites. Raina is sweet, down-to-earth, and relates more easily to the plants she nurtures than to people. Her sister Reana is manipulatively outgoing and has a string of past suitors. In fact, Reyes had been her fiancé until two years ago. In the aftermath, Reyes kept Reana’s secret that made him realize he would never have a successful relationship with her, while Reana spread it around that it was Reyes who had ruined their relationship by cheating on her. She let people think he still wanted to be with her. Thus, when she is murdered, Reyes and Raina work together to prove his innocence and find out what really happened to her sister. Another I-could-NOT-put-this-down book by Dale Mayer.

Getting it right the second time.

Reyes heads to his home town with Ice to arrange a deal between Legendary Securities and his family's gardening business. As much as he tries to avoid his ex, Reana, he's also drawn to her twin sister, Raina, who works at his family's business. No sooner is he in town than trouble starts, and he's the only one who can help Raina deal with the unthinkable.

Reyes and Raina are quiet, introspective people so their romance is understated and slow-burning. It was a tender, sweet story to read, despite the horrible circumstances with her family. Getting to know his family at the same time really added depth to both characters. The story is also an intense whodunnit as Reyes and Ice work with the local authorities as well as their own team to solve the mystery. It's a compelling read with a satisfying HEA. Reyes, a member of Legendary Security (also known as Heroes for Hire) returns home with his boss Ice to his family's nursery to select plants for the compound. Within minutes of arriving at the nursery his past appears with a bang. Tragedy takes place in many forms. Both Reyes and Raina step up and protect, rediscovering the chemistry they saw only in glimpses during their younger days.

I found myself wanting to reach through the pages to slap some sense into the drama queens and to hug some very special wounded people. A well written tale with wonderful characters. This is a standalone book but the series makes each book even better. Many of the characters have multiple appearances within the series.

Suspense mystery romance definitely one of my favorite genres and this book didn't disappoint, I devoured it in just a few hours and in one sitting.
The mystery, the murder got me hooked from the first chapter and since then I can't stop.
This one is Reyes's time to find love, and when he's back to his hometown he definitely didn't expect to find love there, especially with so many reasons why he left that place years ago still there. Messy past, crazy ex- fiance, family affair, mixed with murder, oh yeah this book has intriguing interesting story, although there's not much actions as I wanted to, the mystery and the sweet love definitely made up for it.

If you love suspense romance, I think you'll love this one.

Book 18 in the series and going strong. All books can be read stand alone, but for the full flavor you should read the previous. Kind of like eating potato chips and adding the dip. This one was slightly different in it was home grown, life happening, i.e murder. The mystery is in who did it, since we know it was our man Reyes and a long the way a surprise pops. I had a hard time with Reyes mom and trying to understand the relationship between his parents. Raina's Them I realized I have seen people like that in real life. There is our alpha male, our strong heroine, romance and murder!
Each of Dale Mayers book introduces people and/or events that can show there is hope, there is happily ever after, there is possibility in life. Thank you Dale Mayer and Booksprout! All thoughts and opinions are my own and were unsolicited

Reyes's Raina by Dale Mayer
Heroes for Hire Series Book 17
Reyes Drere is heading home for the first time in two years. After is fiancée had cheated on him...he left and never looked back. He was traveling with Ice to look at plants for around the pool area...and his family had a garden center. Should be an easy enough trip.

Raina Woodcroft was the quiet one. Her twin sister, Reana, was always louder, prettier, more noticed. She always went after what she wanted...like Reyes. Whereas, Raina held back and lost out. But now he's back for a visit and it's good to see her old friend.

Looking at plants wasn't as easy as planned. Not when Reyes ends up in the middle of a murder investigation. Another good story in the Heroes for Hire series.

Another outstanding book by Dale Mayer as Reye's returns to his hometown on a plant buying mission with Ice and comes face to hand with his ex who ends up murdered.

While Reyes knew the truth about his breakup with Reana she had spun a different tale which she switched which one was found in bed with another woman.

This book is filled with murder, death, mystery and surprises of different kinds the best one is that Reyes and Raina find their way to each other. And the worst one being Raena had played a brother against a sister with no concern for anyone but herself, as usual and one of them ended up losing their life.
Reyes had finally gotten his mother to take a look at her volatile actions and how they could and had harmed others as well as how her actions had played a part in the death of her friend and Raina's mother.

Visiting his family's gardening center in San Diego after being gone for two years, Reyes is soon slapped by his ex-fiancé, Reana. When Reana is murdered, Reyes is the prime suspect in the police's eyes. Raina, Reana's twin sister, was good friends with Reyes before he dated her twin. Raina works with Reyes to discover what happened to Reana. Both Raina and Reyes come from dysfunctional families which complicates solving the murder. I received a free copy of this book from the author through Booksprout. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I really liked this book and would give it 4 1/2 stars. This book kept me guessing into the end of the book. I recommend this book and anything else written by this author.

This is book 17 in the Heroes for Hire series and can be read as a standalone, there are no cliffhangers and as with all of them end in a HEA. This is a well-written and well thought out story, there is deceit, betrayal, murder and a sweet love.

We follow Reyes as he and his boss Ice return to his hometown and we follow the antics of his ex fiancee and his family, as he's accused of murder. Can he get the woman he loves, Raina, while clearing his name and solve a heartbreaking murder.

If you enjoy strong military men, a romantic suspenseful plot then you want to read this series. Definitely recommended.

Wow!! This was such a great read with strong characters and a fast-paced well-crafted drama that kept me on the edge of my seat and turning the pages faster than ever to see what was going to happen. I loved Reyes Drere, a former Navy SEAL and member of Legendary Security who travels with Ice to San Diego to his family's garden center to pick out plants for the pool area at their compound in Texas. There is mystery, family drama, loss, raw emotions and so much more as Reyes and Raina's story unfolds. Ms. Mayer is a master with suspenseful romance and I can hardly wait for book 18 in her must-read Heroes for Hire series.

Reyes family have been the go to for gardening plants and supplies for years. Reyes feeling odd man out although loving his family and business, joins the Navy and becomes one of the elite a Navy Seal. Raina her sister Riana are twins and although they look a like they are not. Throw in Ice, a murder and the rest well I cannot say without giving a spoiler and I do not do that. These books and this series is addictive. You are always waiting on the next one.
You can never ever go wrong with a Dale Mayer book. Her writing skills are extraordinary. There is nothing she cannot write and make you want to read more.

Ok, so I love love love Dale Mayer's books, and it feels like I'm always saying omg this was my favourite book.
Honestly you can't pick a favourite because they are all fantastic!
Reyes parents own a gardening business, and Ice needs to do some heavy duty landscaping poolside at the compound.
Ice and Reyes head off on a road trip to pick out plants, and when they reach his parents business his ex shows up.
Volatile, and vicious are good words to describe Reana.
Before 24 hours have passed, Reyes finds himself suspect number one in a murder investigation.
Another winning read for Dale Mayer.

Another fantastic book from Dale. This book has everything. You have drama, joy, sadness, tears, the twin thing but not in a good way. Family dynamics where the wife is a little abusive, but husband puts up with it. There's a little heat, but does not take over the book. I love a good story where it's all about the story line. Reyes went back home to Texas with his boss Ice to pick up some plants from his families business. He hasn't been back in 2 years. Raina still works there and he's glad to see her, but not his ex (her twin). A lot of family dynamics going on her between his family and hers. A GREAT BOOK.
