Revelation: Hearing the Last Word

Rate this book
To many people, the book of the Revelation is a mystery -- they're not sure what it teaches. Much of this confusion is caused by Bible teachers who step beyond the boundaries of Scripture and try to speculate about what will happen in the future -- which can lead to opinions and guesses that are seriously amiss.

When it comes to the last days, how can we know for sure what the Bible says? By letting Scripture speak for itself, and by carefully separating the facts from the possibilities. That's what author David Levy does in his authoritative new commentary on Revelation, titled Revelation: Hearing the Last Word. You'll discover a surprisingly clear picture of what we can expect in the last days and find answers to key questions such as...

-- How can we know if the end times are near?

-- What can we know about the Antichrist?

-- In what order will the events of the last days take place?

-- What will happen to Israel during the Tribulation?

-- What will life be like during the Millennial Kingdom?

A valuable resource that describes what we can expect as we approach earth's final hour

I am a student of eschatology and not quite a scholar but closer each day. Having said that, I started this book with an expectation that I would read another book that would connect believers with the spiritual aspect of the coming days and God's reaching out to us in preparation. Instead, I found a scholarly book that can be understood by almost anyone. While many others writers set dates or get into random guessing, and/or predictions Levy plays it too close to the chest. He writes from an educated insight and is quite objective. There are times when the book is riveting but it is not sustained because the writer includes many citations. The section-by-section explanation and the expository take on the scriptural passages help propel the book into a higher level. He brings in a lot of differing views and provides many expert views. The author is a scholar and that comes across well throughout the book. He includes much Judaic history and draws a line from God's relationship with the Jewish people and the masses saved by our Lord. he is quite effective and it is an easy-to-read book. The author does end the book with the promises of God to always love, help, and bring us into paradise. Overall, I do recommend this book for those who wish to learn more about prophecy without the feeling of having too much information rammed down one's throat.

I used this book as a study tool while studying the book of Revelation in a Sunday school class. This book was very easy to follow and has clear explanations of the book of Revelation. Levy writes in a clear, concise style and does a good job of providing explanation and clarification of Revelation. I appreciated that he would share view points of differing opinion about the end times and then explain why he did or did not agree with them. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Jumping to conclusions

Mr. Levy, throughout this book, cites very few sources and rests a great deal of his perspective and interpretation of Revelation on the supposed Rapture of the Church prior to the Tribulation years. His only offered evidence in defense of the Rapture is the lack of direct reference to the Church during Tribulation events. However, there is frequent reference to the Saints (who by definition make up the Church body) that will be martyred during the Tribulation. Mr. Levy repeatedly makes the claim that Israeli believers, the Church, and the Tribulation era Saints are all part of separate parties with different benefits and preferences - an idea that is refuted throughout the entire New Testament. Mr. Levy makes unfounded claims such as this throughout the book, often citing only one source, or failing to offer a Biblical or scholarly source entirely. In summary, if you're looking for an extremely basic introduction to the book of Revelation and you know how to filter and challenge what you're spoon fed, this can be a useful source, though I must warn that Mr. Levy has delivered his views with an incredible lack of ethos.
