In a world where everybody and their great aunt thinks they can write a police procedural, it's Lee Goldberg who shows us how it's done. Set in Calabasas and Topanga, just west of Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley, the first book in the Eve Ronin series is a fastreading, hard-to-put-down page-turner that draws the reader in from page one right to the end. Ronin is a newly minted Sheriff's Homicide Detective, promoted to the chagrin of her colleagues based on a viral video of a celebrity arrest, ...more

[I'm not writing summaries despite the convention--you can read those on the book description.]

This book is for when you've finished your entire set of Michael Connelly books, and you really want to read something similar but aren't sure if you can take one more lick of Harry Bosch's dark world.

Don't get me wrong, this LA is still dark. However, instead of Bosch's gritty downtown, it's the true crime world of the woodsy Santa Monica mountains. And in true crime world, the decisions of criminals

I’m so excited to share this shiny, new mystery thriller series from Lee Goldberg! My first book from him, and now I know why he’s a bestseller!

Lost Hills is the first installment in the Eve Ronin series. Eve becomes a high profile cop when she arrests an abusive movie star, and in turn, the sheriff promotes her due to the need for good press for the department. You see, the arrest is well-received by the community, and Eve becomes popular overnight. Now she’s the youngest female homicide

I’ve read a few Lee Goldberg books in the past and was hoping this book would be as good as the previous novels. Detective Eve Ronin is a new character and I was curious if the author could create someone different and still achieve the same impact as his other series.

Detective Eve Ronin is new to her department, and her fresh status causes the veterans to question her skills. At times, her knowledge comes off as bravado and she makes plenty of rookie mistakes, exposing her as human rather than
TIL that Lee Goldberg is a man. This is apropos of nothing but for some reason I thought the name = a woman. I also learned that he is responsible for a bunch of stuff I love like Monk so I will probably be hunting down more of his work.

This is a December First Reads book for Prime Members and let me say I am pleased with my choice. This is a very readable, fast paced, mystery featuring a character who is compelling and troubled without being a total psycho. In the book Goldberg h/ts Michael
I can't help but to compare Lost Hills to Harry Bosch series. I keep thinking Eve will run into Bosch at some point, lol. I think the plot was good with likable main characters. Eve is a rookie detective assigned to work with a soon to retire partner who can show her the ropes. Seems to be the other way around.
I missed humor from Lee Goldberg, there were a few jokes here and there but that's how I remember his writing. Will definitely read the next one. 3.5 stars

Familiar author, new character; no-brainer, then, to snap it up as my Amazon First Reads selection for December 2019. As it turns out, it's a solid police procedural that introduces L.A. County Sheriff's Department Homicide Detective Eve Ronin, who earned a transfer after pulling off a win at her previous job that resulted in considerable media facetime. Needless to say, her fellow (literally) officers are less than thrilled that she's in their midst. For the most part, that includes her ...more

Lee Goldberg is a new author for me and the description of the book was intriguing so I selected this story from the Amazon First Reads program for December.

The investigative team is made up of the older veteran who is literally counting down the days before he retires and a female detective brand spanking new to the Robbery/Homicide Division. The two work well together, quite realistically in fact, since Duncan Pavone and Eve Ronin have settled on the division of duties in their team; Pavone

Eve Ronin, a new robbery and homicide detective with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept (LASD) has a lot to prove. She got the promotion because of a viral video where she made an off-duty arrest of an arrogant movie star. So, not only is she young and inexperienced and female, she’s been promoted ahead of others because law enforcement needs some good publicity to counteract recent scandals. But right away a gruesome triple homicide lands in her lap, and it’s the perfect opportunity to prove ...more

While being off-duty, Deputy Eve Ronin arrests a famou movie star as he was abusing his date. Unbeknownst to her, the entire incident was filmed and then became viral, and the sheriff of the Los Angeles Country Sheriff's Department uses the video to distract people form the scandals plaguing his department- and makes Eve the first youngest Homicide detective. Now, Eve needs to prove that this promotion is something she definitely deserves- and the chance comes soon enough when she and her ...more

Deputy Eve Ronin has been lucky. On the way of her bike ride to work, she stumbled into a domestic assault case, and trashed the man responsible. Unknown to her, she had just sucker punched and pinned down an Hollywood action star, has been filmed by several onlookers, became viral, and earned the nickname «DeathFist». This presented as a good opportunity for the Sheriff of Los Angeles Country whose department has been recently plagued by scandals. Eve Ronin is ambitious, doesn’t see why she ...more

My first Lee Goldberg book was a success! A new police procedural series starring Eve Ronin, a new homicide detective w/ LAPD (the youngest female homicide detective in the department’s history; a viral video of her saving a woman wins her the spot). I’m keeping this simple because I’m sick. It’s a super easy & quick read/listen & available on Kindle Unlimited I don’t always enjoy male writers in this genre, especially when they’re writing a female MC. However, I felt this was really ...more

Phenomenal read. This was my first Lee Golberg novel. A real page turner with a great ending. As a cop edging towards retirement myself I found the characters completely believable. Highly recommended.

I love strong female characters...

Eve Ronin is strong as a detective and in the way she handles the misogynistic men (mostly other cops) who cross her path. Yet like any smart and savvy woman new to her job, Eve knows she has a lot to learn and isn’t afraid to ask for help or acknowledge her mistakes. The murders are gruesome, the killer is twisted, and I look forward to reading more Eve Ronin novels.

A woman and her two children have disappeared, a bloodbath left behind in their home. Forensic evidence quickly establishes that three people were indeed killed and dismembered in the house, their remains removed from the scene. Fast-paced, fun and a heck of a character in Eve Ronin. She lives up to her last name. It's LA all the way; I:m NY all the way so it's always interesting to read about a city I'm not familiar with.
Another winner from Lee! Get copy and enjoy.

Definitely recommend and want the next Eve Ronin.

Good story with a great new protagonist. Very satisfying ending. I like mysteries that don't get resolved by some ex machine plot device, that brings it together so you can see how she got there.
Furries, a missing family and a wildfire

Fast paced, who dun it. It was responsible for my losing a night of sleep. Eve Ronin is a dedicated homicide detective that pushes herself beyond human limits.

A fast but gripping read

This story grabbed me early and kept me turning pages. I didn’t want to put it down, and it didn’t disappoint. I was intrigued with the twists and turns all the way to the very end. I will definitely look for the next book in the series!

My First Taste of Lee Goldberg........Wonderful

It wasn’t until I had finished reading this book that I learned that Lee Goldberg is the author of my favorite TV detective Monk.
I loved Lost Hills. Fast moving, great plot and a book that I just couldn’t put down. Lee Goldberg will be on my top three authors to read in future. Highly recommended,

This book is right in my sweet spot of police procedurals and an homage to Lee Lofland. I loved the female character and her near super hero persona. I loved the banter, and how the story unfolded. I read it in one sitting (nearly all day traveling). Very satisfying. I will read the next book.

A must read!!!!!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were so real as well as the visuals conjured in your mind by brilliant writing of the author. I loved Eve Ronin! I want to read the series about her. The author makes you feel like you are mouse in a corner watching in real time as the stories and events unfold. Consider this a 5 star book. It was a pleasure to read while on the edge of your seat wondering what would happen next.
