I wouldn't normally put such short books for very young children on here, but I have to in this case as a warning to Christian parents. This book of Bible stories is terrible! It never once uses the word "sin" -- even the story of Adam and Eve does not even describe their disobedience or failure. In this book, it is a happy story instead of a sad one.
But my greatest criticism is that the cross of Jesus Christ is missing entirely. The second-to-last story is Jesus (not Christ -- the author won't call Him that) feeding the multitudes, and the final story is His resurrection. No crucifixion. The resurrection story just says "When Jesus died..."
I realize this sanitized version of Bible stories is what some parents want. That is very sad, because this book is a distortion of Scripture, and it does not explain why Jesus came into the world. I want my son to know from early days that the Lord Jesus Christ came into this world to save him because he is a sinner who doesn't deserve God's love. I want him to know that God loves him sacrificially, and that his only hope is in Christ. Instead, this book tells the reader that Jesus "is in our hearts forever" with no message that the child needs to trust in Jesus or His saving work. I plan to throw out both the copies of this book that were given to us.
I read this one with my daughter every night. She chooses one and we read and do a little pray after. Her favorite is seeing the animals in the stable with Jesus, mainly to make the animal sounds ;) A cute book for toddlers when introducing the Bible stories!
