A compulsive heart pounding installment in this fantastic police procedural series!

Zac is back and better than ever! This is the third book in the DI Zac Boateng series and in my humble opinion the best so far! Chris Merritt’s writing is so gripping he makes it impossible for you to put the book down! So make sure you have a few hours free before you pick this one up!

Zac is such a real and likable character and in this book my heart just broke for him.... five years ago Zac’s daughter Amelia was

EXCERPT: Kofi gave a dry cough. 'Um, dear Mum and Dad. I am fine and being looked after.' He broke off and glanced at the man, who scowled and pointed at the letter. 'I can prove that it is Saturday the twenty-fifth of August,' he continued, 'because the headline in the Times is. . .' The man held up the newspaper for him. Kofi read the biggest writing on the front before the man put it back down on the table.

'I have not been hurt,' he said, carefully following the message text again. 'But if yo

Life or Death, the third novel to feature DI Zac Boateng of the Metropolitan Police, is yet another classy, well rounded and massively accomplished police procedural by Chris Merritt. His books simply keep getting progressively better and testament to that very fact I had flown through this in a short, nail-bitingly entertaining few hours; I hadn't planned on devouring it quite so quickly as I knew if it were anything like the preceding three I would want to savour it, but unfortunately, that di ...more

This is the third book to feature Zac and yet another edge of your seat thriller.

This story is all about how far you would go for your loved ones. Not only has Zac and his wife already lost one child, their son Kofi, also now finds himself in danger. I had so much empathy for Zac and his wife. If one thing I have come to learn from this authors books is that if it doesn’t rain, it pours. Poor Zac certainly never seems to get a break that’s for sure.

Kat really stands out in this story. She has to

I am a big fan of this series and feel invested in Zac Boateng’s story. He is a detective in the Met and his daughter was killed accidentally in a shop robbery a few years ago. The last couple of books have all been leading to the events that happen in this book and it was a satisfying ending to that part of Zac’s story.

Whilst these are crime novels, there are thriller elements here that make these stories very exciting to read. Chris Merritt is a fantastic author and these books are full of be

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Life or Death, the third novel to feature DI Zac Boateng of the Met.

When the police arrest a gun runner Zac gets a vague hint about Kaiser, the alleged police officer behind the murder of his daughter, Amelia, five years ago and multiple other crimes but before he can take it further the informant dies of a drug overdose. When Kaiser ups the stakes Zac finds himself in a desperate fight for survival.

I thoroughly enjoyed Life o

Can I breathe now!? I mean wow, I feel like I am coiled up right after reading that! Now before I gush about this book, it is the 3rd in the series for Zac Boateng, it can be read as a stand-alone. It follows the events of book one which I have not read. Yet, apart from a couple of references, I didn’t feel like I needed to have read the first one. Saying I had brought the first book after finishing the second one!

So where do I start! The number of times I was led up the garden path was unreal!

This is the third in the DI Zac Boateng series, while it could be read as a standalone, I would highly recommend reading at least the previous book, Last Witness as certain aspects of the storyline overlap.

This is another tense and emotionally gripping read, the perfect addition to this action packed series!

I do wonder if Chris Merritt enjoys torturing poor Zac! He lost his daughter Amelia in a gangland shooting, now his eleven year son Kofi is in danger. Add to that he’s hunting the ruthless Ka

My second book of the series and I was already captivated by the previous story. I could not wait to see what happened next and yes, yesterday was the day I was finally able to snuggle up under a blanket and start reading.

Sometimes my body loses the battle agains sleep but not with this book. There was no stopping me. I was going to finish it no matter what time it was.

And OMG the author certainly knows how to capture a reader’s attention. My brain went in overdrive trying to figure out who was

Life or Death is the 3rd in the Det Zac Boateng series but my first read. I do feel you have to have read the first two in order to get some of the background information as to the death of Zac's daughter Amelia which I presume is covered in the first two but despite this, the author has given a fair bit of information for you to be able to read this as a standalone. However, I will be going back to the beginning as I love a good detective series and am always happy to find another to add to my ...more

I’m a huge fan of this author and in my opinion he keeps getting better and better. Life Or Death was no exception as I couldn’t out this book down.

The subject of this book is one of my worse nightmares so I was instantly intrigued and on Zach’s side. His love for his family shines through and it soon becomes very clear that he’ll stop at nothing to save his family. Some of the scenes regarding this were very tense and my heart was in my mouth as I watched it all unfold. I felt so involved in th

The third book in this series, LIFE OR DEATH by Chris Merritt is an energetic and dangerous game of cat and mouse and I really enjoyed it.

Zac will never give up his search for his daughter's killer and when he gets a sniff of the perpetrator he launches himself into a solitary search for justice and revenge. But Zac has no idea that the net of danger is closing in around him and is much closer to home than he could ever imagine.

Another incredible instalment in the series about Detective Boateng.

This book starts off with two small-time crooks, in over their heads. Then it just builds and builds and I found myself hardly drawing breath the whole way through. So much going on - corrupt police, colleagues who can't be trusted, politics amongst higher-ups in the police force. And in amongst all of that, is Zac's family: his wife and child, and of course Amelia who died years earlier but who never leaves any of their though

Well ladies and gents the wait is now over as ‘Life Or Death’ was released on 23rd January 2019. It really is a stonking read, which I thoroughly enjoyed but more about that in a bit.

I enjoyed this gripping read, which had me racing through the last few chapters, desperate to see what would happen. Everything is conspiring against DI Zac Boateng. He has allowed a dangerous criminal to escape from prison, his young son is in grave danger, his closest ally in the police is spying on him and he has a government minister trying to frame him. It couldn’t really get any worse, particularly as he has already lost his daughter to violence. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, however, ...more
What a prologue!! Zac has got himself into a right pickle! And no! Chapter One is set 8 days previous!!!! How?! Why?!? This start was just not fair!!! I needed to know why Zac was where he was right away, not in 300 odd pages!

This time is personal, Kaiser has taken extra steps to prevent Zac tracking him down. Distraction for the mission, hitting Zac where it hurts. He knows Kaiser is close to home but who can Zac trust? I really didn’t know who was friend or foe; my opinion changed throughout a

Everyone seems to be gunning for Boateng in this latest police procedural. The shadowy figure of Kaiser, senior police, and even a politician all plot Boateng’s downfall as he attempts to find Kaiser and Boateng’s missing son. Third book in the series. I would have gotten into the story quicker if I’d read the others, but it still worked for me. Zac is an excellent character who is able to juggle personal needs and agendas with the demands of the police force. Current events are addressed as civilians and police officers are shot. Gun control issues are raised, but Zac’s special skills help him navigate a tricky maze of personnel, and potential pitfalls. I received an advanced digital copy from #NetGalley in exchange ...more

This was action packed from the beginning. An intense British police thriller with lots of twist and turns. Told from multiple points of views, the author does a great job keeping the pace of the story and taking us on a twisted ride. This is book #3 of the D.I. Zac Boateng series. It can be read as a standalone book, but it does have references to the previous books, so I would recommend to read in order.

Detective Inspector Zac Boateng is still on the hunt for the person who killed his daughter, Amelia. He believes it to be Kaiser, an unknown killer who Zac also believes is a corrupt Metropolitan Police Officer. As usual, Zac does his own thing in investigating the case, but when one of his informants is killed, he knows he’
