Wow! I put off reading this for months because I just wasn't sure I would get into it and I wanted to be in the mood for a series- I wanted to read all four books in a row instead of broken up.
Let's just say I was worried for nothing! I was hooked from page 1 and couldn't wait to see what happened next. I've read very, very few erotica books- it's just not something I ever really got into and when I got this series I, somehow, had no idea that this was, in fact, erotica. When I finally opened m

This book was pure smut.
The author tries to walk the fine line between erotica and actual story, which leads to that (s)he fails misserably at both.
The story is interesting, but poorly executed. The two main characters are somewhat believable up until the ending, where the authors by trying to create an interesting twist manages to kill any empathy you as a reader might have developed for them.
The erotic segments in the book are fairly crude, short and far inbetween.
This is not a book I would re

Complete smut. This was just disgusting in my opinion. First mistake was that i thought that I might like it but didn't realise that this was for older readers. And what I mean by that, is horny house wives... It was poorly written, poorly executed. I liked the multiple points of view, but it would change bloody mid-sentence and I would get confused who I was reading from, then it would change back again! The story was just boring and literally gross. Save yourself the pain of having to bleach y ...more

I didn't like. It had no emotional connection at all for me. Not impressed. Didn't turn me on at all. I have read other books that make me want to be the woman in the book but I got nothing from this one

The plot of the book was an intriguing one and had much promise. However, the simplicity of the author's writing made the book seem less that what it could have been. The writing style turned me off enough that I was not invested in the characters and couldn't even finish reading the book.

This book was a pretty good read it was just very predictable. I was able to figure out the twist early into the book. It think if it weren't so predictable I may have given it 4 or 5 stars. This was my frist Velvet book, I think I'll read more.

This book catches my attention because of the tag line "black is so much sexier than grey.". A good read yes, but the twist and the events are so predictable. Nothing compared to fifty shades.

This novel was recommended to me by a friend so I decided to take a crack at it. I have never read a book by the author Velvet and I was thoroughly entertained. I really enjoyed the story and the journey of the characters. I was a little apprehensive because I have read so many books with the same premises; a membership at a sex club that spills into the characters real-life. But, it carried well and I really liked the book. However, without giving away any details I found the ending to be quite ...more

I really liked this book. I removed a star because as much as I enjoyed the steaminess of The Black Door, it would have been better if there would have been more romance.

I was/am torn about Preston. On one hand, he was a great guy and Ariel could have been more supportive and not so bratty when it came to the lack of attention he gave her due to his focus on being a Supreme Court judge. On the other hand, he didn't have to be quite so standoffish towards her. And the (view spoiler)

A friend recommended this book b/c I am an attorney and was looking for something light to read. Erotique and an easy read nothing like what I've heard of 50 Shades but still interestingly entertaining.

Saw the book at the top picks for e-book so I was intrigued and decided to read it. The plot is promising but the story was badly written. No way near FiftyShades. The twist in the end made it worst. I don't think I will read the next book in the series.

This was a great book! If you are a fan of erotic fiction, this entire series is a must read! Definitely realistic, nothing over the top or outrageous. Where did this author disappear too?

Great book, but the ending could have been a bit better, was as if the author had enough of writing it and wanted to make a quick ending

I was not sure how racy this would have been. I totally enjoyed not only the intimite parts of the book but the story line. I read it in one day.

I honestly have mixed emotions in this book. First the prologue has such strong promise but as the story goes, it faded.

I'd say that this is my first erotica book. To be completely honest, I was intrigued by the author's name and the synopsis it gives. The Black Door seemed to hold such a promise of lust and forbidden pleasures. Oh there was lust alright and snippets of kinks and fetishes that could have been really interesting if they've showed it more...

Then there's Ariel, the heroine of the s

The story was about lonely women, rich, lonely and having facilities to express their loneliness and their desire, to f***ed, to taste sin to taste another men aside from their partners and Trey the owner, gave them facilities, "The Black Door", an exclusive club for Mrs.Money Bag and rich women who can PAY!

This is an honest story, people been hiding from their actual life.
So...let's see...

So far, Ariel's reason came to The Black Door was understandable. She was an a

SPECIAL NOTE: The review is more about ranting than fighting for a good point.

The book was promising. Even the tagline was bold enough to compete from Fifty Shades of Grey. But it was way too far from the competition...

I don't know if it's because I used an e-book format or what, but the grammatical and typo errors were so annoying. Seriously? Didn't anyone proofread this?

The author was on the edge of putting twists so that it wouldn't be boring and the erotica genre .. but it lead her to fai

I read 92% of this book and I'm smacking myself in the head and asking myself why didn't I stop much much sooner?! The beginning of the book was a decent premise with a typical characters and I thought it might be leading to an interesting story but it was all downhill from there. Things went from ridiculous to worse. Hot love scenes turned to pure smut. there are holes in the story that don't make sense. how can a career judge who wants to be a Supreme Court justice have sold a business that wa ...more

Actually read this trashy read to the end to see if any of the characters redeemed themselves..nope! This poorly written, bad drama finished with no style whatsoever. They were all narcistic, unethical, without a single moral between them. Very hard to engage with a single one of them due to the only emotion came from a place of self serving needs and lust...not at all what I was expecting from this book.

This book is a perfect example of why so many people take BDSM embracers as people not to be taken seriously. They portrait women as spoiled brats in need of a not-at-all-erotic spanking, conivent to psychological abuse, the only interest to be persuited in a man a hard dick and communication between the couple as non-existent. It seriously mocked me.

Good book, not great. The "twist" was predictable, the ending rushed, and overall only just okay. Not sure if it was a $10 book. I probably wont read the rest at that price.

Also, I don't know if it was because i had the ebook or what, but the amount of grammatical & word replacement errors was very distracting...
