Lucky Town by Morgan Brice
Book 1.5 of the Badlands series. Urban fantasy / Paranormal mystery with M-M romance. Best read as part of the series.
Simon and Vic travel to Pittsburgh for a family Thanksgiving where a ghost intrudes on their lives. Simon uses his psychic skills to help Vic solve the cold case.

Family, romance, a mystery to solve and a holiday. It’s all wrapped in this series continuation where we learn more about who they are, how they came to be who they are, and more depth on thei

I love this series from Morgan Brice, it has just the right mix of urban fantasy, magic folklore and modern policing.

In this short novella, Simon and Vic head back to Pittsburgh to visit the D'Amato clan and, while there, Simon stumbles on a distressed ghost and Vic's ex-boyfriend Nate stirs up trouble for the pair.

As with book one, there's great plotting, the pacing is just right, building up to an encounter with the bad guys and laying down the right level of tensions so that the eventual con
Oh, how I love Simon and Vic! Even though I read this novella out of order, it was so entertaining. For a short story it packed a lot heat and had enough going on to be intriguing and gripping at the same time.

D'Amato clan welcomed Simon with open arms. We get to see where Vic gets his looks as well as personality traits. And we also get a glimpse into Simon's relationship with his mother who would make Snow Queen look like Mary Poppins. There are moments full of holiday cheer and romance but n
Kale Williams is perfect for this series and I honestly can't imagine reading it... a really fun novella with a nice, spooky mystery and the crazy hot sex I've come to crave from author Morgan Brice. Seriously..., wow I'm just sayin'. ...more
After enjoying the introduction of Simon the psychic and Vic the homicide detective during a serial killer's rampage in Myrtle Beach, I was eager to go home for the holidays to Pittsburgh where Simon got to meet Vic's boisterous Italian family.

Lucky Town is #1.5 in the series and a novella that follows up on the first story so it doesn't make the best of standalones though, in a pinch, it could be done.

Simon and Vic are opposites and their families are as well. Simon may be worried that Vic's fa

Simon and Vic are settling into their partnership (in both senses of the word) and continuing to fight things that go bump in the night. Creepily sweet series!

Lucky Town is a short novel that is officially book 1.5 in the Badlands series, following the fabulous first book, Badlands. In that story, we meet both Simon and Vic and see the men get together while hunting a serial killer. While at first Vic was wary and somewhat disbelieving of Simon’s psychic abilities, he came to recognize that Simon is legit and the two are now taking “special” cases for the police that involve the supernatural, amidst their other responsibi

In this interlude we find Vic and Simon taking the next steps in their relationship. Not only are they moving in together, they are also going to Pittsburgh to celebrate Thanksgiving with Vic’s large and boisterous family. (Gulp)

The trip to Pittsburgh doesn’t go quite to plan. But then again, when do things go according to plan? The meeting of the family runs smoother than they expected and Simon is instantly hugged and welcomed to the D’Amato clan. Simon also made a friend for

One thing I’m really loving about this series is the way the author weaves folklore into the stories; it really adds a cool dimension to the plots that appeals to my own love of legends and mythologies. That she can also balance this with relationship development as we get to see the bond between Vic and Simon deepen shows her writing skills. After all, fitting both the evolution of their relationship (including the all-important meet-the-ENTIRE-family-at-the-holidays) and the hunt for a superna ...more

What a great addition to the Badlands series! While this is a novella and I kind of wish it was a little longer, this short book packs a punch and then some. It is a must-read at 4.5 stars.

Story: 4.5 stars
This story is full of mystery, suspense, emotion, and magic. It picks up shortly after Badlands, and we get to see more of Simon and Vic. It's the holidays and things aren't ever easy with these two. A trip to meet Vic's parents, weird murders, and a mysterious creature are clinging to them. T

I love Simon and Vic!

Another thrilling, love-filled adventure!! I love Simon and Vic and their love and passion for each other is evident throughout this story.

Another vision and evil that must be faced, not as death-defying as the last but still gripping and thrilling. Simon and Vic come out the other side to enjoy a love-filled Christmas in their newly painted bungalow. I love these characters and the adventures they have. The world created is

Although I love all of Morgan Brice’s AKA Gail Z. Martin’s books, this series is one of my favourites, and not just because Badlands—book 1 in the series—was the first one of hers I read, and hooked me in. I love Simon, who is not only is a psychic medium, but a folklorist history nerd, and the way he and Vic complement each other. While these two take down bad guys, Simon also goes out of his way to help people, and make their lives better. He helps people with abilities to embrace them and cop ...more

Simon Kincaide and Vic D'Amato have been together for a few months, but it is only now that Simon has a chance to meet his lover's family. Going to Pittsburgh to spend Thanksgiving with Vic's relatives, the men did not expect that it would be the beginning of a very busy holidays for the two of them. It all starts when a ghost of a woman seeking justice for her death comes to Simon, as the police couldn't solve the case of her murder.
Spooky and paranormal elements in a story can make you really like or totally forget about a book. Morgan Brice as an author tempts you to pick up her book and get engrossed in the storytelling of the paranormal world, witchcraft and mediums, throwing in a bit of real-world mystery and cop drama. The mystery element and suspense make this book worth a read, especially as this is a continuation of Simon and Vic's story from Badlands. The book picks where the first one concluded and I am glad th ...more

Another fun read in Morgan Brice's M/M supernatural series, of which there are currently two series -- the Badlands series and the Witchbane series. While I have enjoyed both opening books in the series(es), my favorite was the Badlands characters (Simon and Vic) and story line set in Myrtle Beach. So I was thrilled when Brice announced a Badlands holiday novella (I LOVE the holidays!), and it did not disappoint.

The book is split between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. As much of a Chr

Simon and Vic on the case (an audio review)

When I listened to Badlands, the first book in this series by Morgan Brice, I fell a little in love with Simon Kincaide and eventually warmed up to Vic D’Amato. By the time we got to the climax of the book, I was fully involved. This book takes place just a few months later and I was thrilled to see the relationship between the two men had solidified to the point they’re moving in together. They even travel back to Philly so Simon can meet the D’Amato c

Lucky Town is the follow-up novella to Badlands and while it can be read as a standalone, I promise you don't want to miss out on the first book in the series.

Simon and Vic were as amazing as in Badlands, Vic has moved into Simon's house and Vic takes Simon to spend Thanksgiving with the D'Amato family where they stumble into a case and Vic's ex.

Morgan Brice managed to recapture the chemistry between Simon and Vic and show the reader how their relationship is growing even deeper. They

This is the continuation of Simon and Vic’s story, so if you haven’t read book one, Badlands, you really need to start there, plus it’s a terrific read!

As we catch up with Simon and Vic, they are settling nicely into their relationship and are more in love than ever and planning to move in together, well, that’s if Simon survives Thanksgiving with Vic’s family. Haha

This was a great addition to Simon and Vic’s story. I loved getting to catch up with them. The author definitely manages t

Lucky Town is a sequel to Badlands, the Morgan Brice novel that introduced us to Simon Kincaide, who runs a ghost tour business in Myrtle Beach, and homicide detective Vic D’Amato. The relationship between Simon and Vic is still new as they travel to Pittsburgh to spend Thanksgiving with Vic’s large and gregarious family. This is a novella, not a full length novel, but a lot happens here: a vengeful ex-boyfriend, a ghost who seeks help from Simon, and a new threat from the folk-horror legend of ...more

Vic invites Simon to meet his family in Pittsburgh after they move in together. Simon is welcomed warmly. White there, Simon receives a vision about Sylvia's murder which they turn over to Brent and Travis, a pair of hunters, since it involved magic. Brent and Travis were able to settle Sylvia's spirit but could solve her murder. Unfortunately the murderer seems to have followed them back to Myrtle Beach. Well the murders at least. When Simon receives another vision, he tracks the wish master/da ...more

Big moves

A really good novella with big moves for Simon and Vic, both figuratively and literally. Vic is moving into the Blue Bungalow with Simon, both of them more than ready for this next stage in their relationship. Stirring trouble in town brings about a new "weird" case for the two and brings to light more magic, something that Simon and Vic must wholeheartedly embrace as their new normal. These two big moves are major in their relationship, yet are not an upset. Their love for each other i

A fun twist on some Christmas legends

A fun yet creepy holiday novella. Borrowing from some established Christmas folklore we’ve got Ghosts of Christmas past, present and future as well as Krampus.

Ghosts of past arise via family connections and exes, present in the form of a murder investigation and future in the form of a vision and a woman in fear for her life. Krampus figures into the latter two.

We get more development of the relationship between Vic and Simon and we see the budding work partn
