The Nature Cure: A Doctor's Guide to the Science of Natural Medicine
A thoughtful and compelling case for the power and potential of natural medicine to heal the human body, from bestselling author Dr. Andreas Michalsen
We are living longer than ever before. Average life expectancy is higher today than at any other period in our history. But our prolonged lives have come at a price: a rise in chronic disease. More and more of us are developing chronic conditions like digestive disorders, high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, and cancer. These diseases pose a challenge to conventional medicine, which controls symptoms but doesn't address the underlying cause of chronic illness. But there is a solution: naturopathy.
Naturopathy, or natural medicine, focuses on uncovering the roots of health and resilience. Naturopathy works by using elements found in nature--such as sunlight, water, nourishing foods, medicinal plants and animals--to strengthen our bodies and give ourselves the power to overcome a wide range of illnesses.
After starting his career as a cardiology specialist, Dr. Andreas Michalsen found himself increasingly disappointed with the way that conventional Western medical treatments had no lasting effect or cure. He began exploring other ways of healing, which led him to naturopathy. Now, Dr. Michalsen is a pioneering force in the world of healthcare, spearheading the latest scientific research on natural ways of healing.
In The Nature Cure, Dr. Michalsen shares the potential of nature he discovers every day with his patients. He walks us through the basic principles and scientific mechanisms of naturopathy and provides us with practical, easy-to-follow instructions on how to integrate naturopathic methods into our daily routine.
Thoughtfully written and filled with science and history, fascinating case studies, and practical guidance, this illuminating book has the power to transform your health and change your life.

Well-done and convincing research on how a combination of healthy (vegetarian or vegan) diet and fasting could prevent lots of diseases. The meditation part wasn't really my cup of tea, since I don't have any patience for it but I can see its appeal. For someone who believes in nature when it comes to curing oneself, this book was definitely meant for me. Also loved that Michalsen isn't trying to sway the reader from traditional medicine, but creates a compelling argument that the best way forward is to combine both and stop neglecting what's in front of us.

This was an insightful read. At first, I was really benefiting from the light descriptions and not going too deep into technicals - because I was hearing some things for the first time.
It was nice to see how Ayurveda, leeches, fasting, water therapy, plants, spices and other natural processes prevent and cure different diagnoses.
However, one of the biggest drawbacks of this light writing was when it came to nutrition, as one of the most important factors of healthy life. The writer seemed to propagate light plant based vegetarian diet, with no in depth analysis on how that fits into different lifestyles, especially when it comes to people who are psychically active.
But aside from that, the book was super insightful into how western based medicine focuses on curing consequences, whereas natural medicine is more oriented towards causes - and how integrative medicine, combination of the above, could actually be the smartest way forward. :)

Though a bit preachy and self righteous, with no opposing evidence considered, the book overall was very informative. Interesting look at alternative medicine and how we could implement it to all stay well longer

Easy-to-read, relatively superficial overview of various "natural medicine" approaches to healing, including diet and fasting, exercise, forest bathing, water treatments, and ayurveda basics.

I found this book to be incredible. Illuminating the reasons to explore naturopathy in a balanced, scientific and unbiased way in regards to our health and defence against chronic disease. The tone isn’t preaching, rather common sense, when describing the flaws in modern western medicine (and culture) and how if we took a more personal approach to medicine, on an individual basis, using natural methods to combat illness society would be better off - as would the individual.
This book has encouraged me to eat better, move more and to explore ways to take personal accountability for my health, and that of my children. Something we should all discuss in this society of increasing sickness.

The book is focusing on natural medicine, which is always what I preferred, rather than medication from drugs.
It does provide some useful information, and even how the author is doing about for some of the issues we face day to day. Some part is a bit dry, and majority of the content is well known already through social media, you can easily find online.

10/10 recommend to everyone. For such intensive topics, it was a light read. Every single thing the author said was backed up by fact & study, and the information was presented in a way that was easily digestible. This is a book I will definitely be buying to keep on a shelf so I can consistently reference it.

Recommended by the most vibrant 90-year-old I know. Parts made me skeptical (leeches, really?) but I read with an open mind and feel energized to make some changes in my diet and to add meditation to my daily routine.

I have found many natural medicine solutions over the years, you need just to search Google Scholar and latest developments. But this books is about 15th century shit, nothing more.

Slightly draggy but only for the reason of the sheer volume of cures available from nature for the numerous maladies the living suffer.
This book covers everything from temperature, play, sleep, diet and other therapies, making it a very good book to introduce you to the methods that speak to you most opening a channel for you to venture deeper into that choice.
Great overall introduction to Nature's Cure.

Keine neuen Erkenntnisse

May 16, 2018The concept of naturopathy and the body’s power to heal itself is very powerful and resonates strongly with me. I found the author a bit too evangelical on his one-sided views of nutrition (vegetarianism). I liked the naturopath and Ayurvedic remedies and therapies the most in the book. I rate it 3.5 stars because of the authors obvious bias and the somewhat condescending tone (perhaps it was the translation?).
