Cacti of the Desert SW
The deserts of the American Southwest boast a remarkably diversity of drought-tolerant plant life, including many species found nowhere else on earth. And no group says desert quite like cacti. Their prickly nature notwithstanding, cacti and the desert habitats in which they reside are especially fragile. Indeed, Saguaro National Park and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument were established primarily to protect the largest concentrations of these respective species. Others, such as the Pima pineapple cactus, are less conspicuous but also more rare and in need of special protection and conservation.

Good information and photos but, if there is ever a revised version there should be uniform comparative charts included.

Those of you who followed the Brothers' Bike Ride blog won't be surprised that I read this book. I plan to bring it with me on our next leg from Arizona through New Mexico and just into Texas so that I can identify more cacti we pass by along the ride. :)

An identification guide of cacti found in the American Southwest as far east as Texas including Northern Mexico. Contains brief descriptions and a color photograph of each specie in bloom. A helpful little tool without getting to academic.

Picked this up on my trip to New Mexico this summer and enjoyed reading about all the cool plants we had seen.
