Psychology student, Grace Fleming, is addicted to meaningless hook-ups in random places, impulsively following a script for self-destruction and bad behavior. She suffers from nightmares and a patchwork of flashbacks that leave her in a fugue state. Unsure what they mean, she goes to therapy, seeking answers. Is her mind conjuring them up or are they past encounters she’d blocked out?
Saint is a private investigator of dubious character. He will take almost any case, but his favorite includes entrapping married women into infidelity. Saint is hired to keep a watchful eye on Grace while keeping his identity a secret. The paradox tempts him; is Grace, a devil in disguise or an angel with a crooked halo? When he finds himself in a compromising position, Saint quits. He soon regrets resigning when he discovers a sinister threat to her safety, and it may be the reason for the nightmares.
K. Nilsson’s love of reading began with the Bobbsey twins. When she ran across some Italian True Romance novellas stashed in the attic, the musty serials hooked her on adult fiction. Though black and white photos were dramatic enough to know what the stories were about, she taught herself to read in Italian and translated them to her friends.
She’s an unapologetic reviewer of books, restaurants, and vacation destinations. An amateur photographer, K. loves taking editorial photos and documenting her travels. Her personal philosophy, sleeping is a waste of time.
The storyline to this was what kept me reading and interested in the book but overall it seemed a little messy, 5 or 6 people had a voice in it and it was kinda jumpy in parts and that made my head spin forcing me to go back and see if I missed anything so that was a little off putting. For me I would have liked the story told only from grace and saints POV I didn't feel it needed more than that and I can't help but wonder if this had happened would it have made the story that bit better for me. Good book, exciting at times, worth the read
I am in love with this book!!!!! You GOTTA read it!!!!! It’s a MUST READ for 2019!!!!!! Reasons why I enjoyed this book: Easy-to-read Entertaining Page-Turner Wonderful characters Steamy
If you love a dark, edgy, compelling, addictive reads, this one is for you. Grace has been abused as a young girl and struggling as an adult because of it. But she is determined to fix herself so she can help others that have been abused. I loved following her journey as she grew stronger. Saint is a bit of a devil/angel but you can't help loving him as the story unfolds. The Confessional is well written and Ms. Nilsson really brings the story and her characters to life with her unique writing style. I love how she tells a story and keeps you intrigued from start to finish. I'm hooked an K. Nilsson and can't wait to see what's next!!!
Whew! It took me a bit to fully digest this story after reading it. It was good, really dark and disturbing, and I liked the overall plot because it was a different twist on this type of genre than I’ve read before. If you’re not faint of heart this is totally worth the read. Definitely heed the trigger warnings.
I received a copy of the ebook and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a fairly interesting read, however I had to keep rereading parts to understand sentences or what was going on and it would jump around or mention details that seemed like it was supposed to make sense to the reader but hadn't been addressed before.
This is intense, heartbreaking, suspenseful, disturbing and graphic. Grace doesn't know why she needs the degradation she craves, she just does. She has been dealing with wanting to hurt herself and having nightmares she can't remember anything about since she was a teenager. She has been seeing the same therapist since she was 14, and just recently has been having flashbacks about being controlled. When she disappears after one of her episodes her sister hires a P.I. to find her. The P.I. gives the case to another P.I., Saint, who specializes in catching cheating wives by taking pictures of them while they are with him. His wife cheated on him so he decided that 1) he wasn't ever going to trust another female so 2) he only did one night stands and 3) he was starting his own business that would help men catch their wives cheating. When he found out about Grace's behavior he thought that he had found a soulmate, another person who used sex to satisfy a different need. After she goes home her sister still wants Saint to watch her, but that doesn't work for him. Until they realize she is being stalked, then he's all over her. What follows is a shocking twist that you can't see coming. The end is sweet and satisfying. received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
***Trigger Warnings*** Cutting & Sexual Child Abuse
The Author DOES note of triggers at the beginning of her book, but it’s not until the end that you learn what they are. I’d change that, so readers can make the best choices for themselves beforehand!!
This story is very dark and does include romance, but the focus is more about self-redemption and living as a survivor after experiencing hell.
The print needs quite a bit of clean-up and editing. Spell check would be a start, but add in a couple proofreads, a red pen for marking changes and the rewrite. Indie authors can produce nearly flawless books and Amazon is proof with the tens of thousands of books sold, read & reviewed. If this genre is the type of story you’re looking for, then it is an interesting read. I wish the author would’ve given a better ending versus leaving it up to the reader. All-in-all it’s good.
This story takes on a very dark theme - sexual abuse. It is done in a way to show the reader how a child could possibly cope with abuse. Grace is a wonderful character. The reader gets a glimpse into her world and this around her. It doesn't hold extremely in depth but does give you a good foundation. Saint is her savior but he has his own demons to deal with in the story. The family is very, very dysfunctional. This is a dark read but the author does try to show Grace as a survivor (which she most definitely is) not a victim, I was given this book for an honest voluntary review
Grace is a psychology student with her own demons to work through, Saint is a private investigator hired to keep and eye on Grace. This in an read not for everyone, the story is intense with lots of raw emotion that really draws you in. I was hooked on this intriguing read.
The Confessional is a very unique story that not only is it a romance story, but of also about a person who endured sexual abuse and recovery. This story left a mark on my heart and was a tragic and beautiful story with hope.
**Important-This is a dark read and may contain triggers for some readers**
This is Grace and Saint's story, and, let me warn you, their story is not for the faint of heart. It is real, and it is raw. Due to past events that she can't remember, Grace is stuck. She is a psychology student with dreams to help people like herself, but, before she can help others, she must face and overcome her own demons. In order to do this, she is working with a therapist. The plan is to recover her lost memories, but there are outside forces working against her.
Saint is a private investigator with dreams of his own. He has no idea that when he is hired to keep an eye on Grace that his life will never be the same. These two share a connection that is off the charts, but Grace confuses him. Is she a devil in disguise, or an innocent victim dealing with her past the best way she can?
The story line in this book is a little crazy, but oh so good! It takes a few chapters to really get into the good part of the story, but once you get there, you won't be able to put your kindle down until the very end!
The confessional is dark, dangerous, addictive, and offers no cure or redemption. Grace, abused as a young girl, can't remember who it was, but she knows what someone did to her. She has nightmares about it. Grace has a painful journey to fix herself, some unorthodox methods, but an insta-cure for abuse doesn't exist.
The Confessional is full of words and ideas with a double meaning, I mean the main character’s names, for instance, Saint and Grace.
The plot begins around the third chapter when symptoms of sex addiction are dramatized. I could understand how bad it could be. I couldn’t help feeling Grace's pain and yearning to fix herself. Group therapy further demonstrates the extent people like her would go for relief. Her progress was impeded by interference.
The confessional is not one, but two places, and has several meanings as well. The author wrote great characters. Saint, in particular, was a despicable character, but by the end, I wanted a guy just like him.
Grace got stronger as the story went on. She endured like an ever-ready battery, she just kept on ticking.
I really liked this story, it was very very descriptive and painful to see what Grace went through and it is raw and real, a sex addict being abused at a very young age with very intense flashbacks and memories and with her therapist and Saint being hired for protection which came off strong but I liked how he handled things they just had that instant connection Saint having his own issues. Grace is a survivor and tries so hard not to be a victim and I loved her strength to just live on. It was a dysfunctional family but their was so much love their. Wonderfully written with intense dark scenes so prepare yourself.
This is a great read. It also gives you a whole different look at people dealing with addiction and the way it affects them. Grace is addicted to sex. Saint is a private investigator hired to keep an eye on her. But is she the devil or an angel. The Author has really brought the characters out, you could feel there emotions, The Author done a fantastic job bringing the storyline. Shauna Joesten
What a disturbing and not faint of heart dark read. Grace is a psychology student with demons she needs to overcome. Saint is a private investigator and has been hired to keep his eye on Grace. Saint and Grace have an incredible connection. Their story is extremely well written, filled with great characters, raw emotions, and dark scenes. I was hooked from the first page until the last.
This is a dark read. It is well written, interesting and kept my interest throughout the whole thing. I enjoyed watching the storyline and characters unfold. I recommend it to all. I received it from booksprout and voluntarily reviewed it.
Abuse is never an easy subject to write about but the author has written a very good story. It is shocking but Grace battled through it and the story itself is very exciting and dramatic. It is not for the feint hearted because it would be upsetting for anyone who had been abused.
I liked the story and how it was going but having more then 2 people have an input kind of throws me off. I was having a hard time keeping things straight and had to put it down a few times so I could digest what I had just read.
