Sir Alister Clavering Hardy, FRS was an English marine biologist, professor at the University of Oxford and Fellow of the Royal Society, and founder the Religious Experience Research Centre. He served as the offical zoologist on the RRS Discovery voyage to explore the Antarctic between 1925 and 1927.
Hardy did research into at least 1,000 individuals experience of spirituality--nonreligious and religious. Here he presents his data as well as a definition of what is spirituality. The author's approach to the subject is solid, not fluffy, thus making this an interesting book for critical thinkers. Hardy concludes that he feels spiritual experiences are real and cannot be completely explained by current scientific models. That as 1979, but materialism and physicalism hasn't presented anything compelling to discount Hardy's research.
