The bestselling military romantic suspense series is back…
They say all is fair in love and war—until the enemy plots to kill the ones he loves.
Marine Colonel John Holt is the commanding officer of a new, highly covert special operations unit, The 13. When a well-known Russian terrorism expert is murdered, Holt and his team must find the killer before anyone else dies.
Charlee Finch can’t understand why her normally bright, cheerful son, Connor, has seemingly changed overnight into a dark and depressed teenager. In an attempt to learn what is happening in her son’s life, Charlee uncovers disturbing messages on Connor’s computer.
When John’s case crosses paths with Connor, Holt and Charlee must put aside their romantic relationship, along with past fears and trust issues. Only then will they be able to save the lives of innocent people—and save Connor from becoming a pawn in a terrorist’s game of death and destruction.
Born and raised in the Rocky Mountains, Anne L. Parks has spent the last 28 years moving all over the United States. Married to the Navy – well a Commander in the Navy – Parks has lived in various locales throughout the United States. She currently resides in the Washington D.C area. When not writing, she spends her time reading, doing yoga, mountain biking, and keeping track of four kids and a very spoiled rescue German Shepherd. And drinking wine.
Author of nine novels (Tri-Stone Trilogy, Return To Me series, and Strangers) and four novellas that have been published in anthologies, she loves to create stories with mystery, plenty of twists and turns, and loaded with suspense.
With a military husband, it was only a matter of time before she broke into the military romantic suspense genre, where she feels right at home amongst highly trained, somewhat jaded, ready to take out terrorists alpha males and the strong, brave women who love them. Parks first military romance, MIA, went to #1 on Amazon’s Kindle World. Thirteen more books will be released in her new series, The 13. Two other series are being planned.
For some reason “John” hasn’t been classified correctly on Goodreads and is showing up as a stand alone instead of part 5 of “The 13” series.
Previous novellas are (and must be read for this to make any sense): Mia Ritt Mason Ben
On to the review. Again, we have insta-love and a novella that basically takes place over a week or two. This one wasn’t as engaging as the first three and while there’s a Russian political theme ~ the last two books seem to be lacking in the series story arc connection that was so strong in the first 3.
The only reason I’ve kept going is that these are such quick reads (1-2 hrs depending) and I just binged them. But I feel like it’s losing steam because the storylines ~ in the romantic, action, and series arc are increasingly underdeveloped. Frankly this last book read more like an outline or early draft rather than a completed story. This was especially disappointing as not only do we get much on the MC’s, but we “hear” nothing in regards to previous characters.
At the end of John, it lists the next book in the series as “Lucas” with a release date of 1/8/2019. As of 3/23/19, there isn’t even a pre-order or anything available.
Fantastic drama about a History Professor who is divorced and trying to raise her teenage son while her ex is strongly influencing her son's bad attitude. As the son becomes more unruly, she is shocked to see what he has on his computer. So she confides in a service man she met at a lecture. An intense and suspenseful chase begins when they uncover a terrorist plot to bomb a school.
John is the leader for 13. A very secret team. Charles is a single mom who is dealing with her ex and a teenage son who has changed overnight. When Charlee sees what is on her son's computer, can John help her to save him and keep him out of prison? Can John finally move on with his life with Charlee if they make it out alive?
This was an excellent quick read. Nice dose of romance, healthy dollop of action and good suspense. I enjoy these types of books and find them so easy to follow.
Another good book from the 13! Although I was a little surprised, the ending seemed a bit abrupt! I'm hoping that this may be cleared up in the next book, which I'm about to start 🙂
Another fantastic book in the series by Anne L. Parks!! This series just keeps getting better and better! Can't wait to read the next one in The 13 series!
