This play is hot property these days -- oddly enough for a play that went 50 years without a production. In 1932 it was a Russian social comedy, which Stanislavksky had rehearsed for 18 months and which Stalin abruptly canned...It really came back to life with a 1979 Royal Shakespeare production and a Broadway run with Derek Jacobi...Semyon Semyonovitch, depressed because he can't get a job, is going to kill himself. Word gets about and his apartment is besieged by disaffected intellectuals, butchers, prima donnas, writers and mailman. They all hate the system too, but since only Semyon is ready to kill himself, would he please sign a note saying he died for the cause of...and here they all fall to tearing one another's special interests limb from limb...

Nikolay Robertovich Erdman was a Soviet dramatist and screenwriter primarily remembered for his work with Vsevolod Meyerhold in the 1920s. His plays, notably The Suicide (1928), form a link in Russian literary history between the satirical drama of Nikolai Gogol and the post-World War II Theatre of the Absurd.

Stalin personally banned the play (after just one representation in front of the aproval committee) and put the author in exile.

In 1933 Bulgakov wrote a note to Kremlin where he pledges for the needs of the author to express his creativity and asking for the rehabilitation of Erdman. Of course he was ignored and only in 1982 a censored version of this play was put on stage in Moscow.

Как-то так вышло, что я её ни в театре её не видела, ни глазами не читала. Понимаю всё - и насколько это было смело, и все эти запреты на разных стадиях советской власти, и про судьбу автора знаю.
Но если честно, вот если брать просто текст и читать сегодня впервые, то не очень интересно. И смешно, и трагично, и даже просто страшно, но в общем длинновато и не слишком захватывающе. "Ждала конца", а наиболее часто возникающая мысль - как же он осмелился и неужели на что-то надеялся?

سيميون: "وما هو ذلك المجتمع المدني؟! إنه مصنع للشعارات. هل تعتقدون أن الإنسان الذي يستمع إلى إعلان قيام الحرب يسأل مع من تلك الحرب؟ أو لم تلك الحرب؟ أو أي قيم وراء هذه الحرب؟ كلا, الإنسان يسأل (أي دعفة سيطلبون للتجنيد, وأي دفعة سيتركون؟) وهو محق هذا الإنسان''

عجبني كمان لما قال:

"إذا كنت سأنتحر في تمام الثانيةعشر؛ فما الذي سيحدث لي في الساعة الثانيةعسر ونصف؟"

مسرحية كوميدية معبرة وكلاسيكية لكونها تصلح لكل زمان ومكان. نتعرف فيها على الإنسان البسيط العاطل عن العمل الذي تأخذه الآراء والنصائح والاقتراحات يمينا وشمالا وهو لا يقدر الا على زوجته. كل فئات المجتمع تريد أن تستفيد من قرار انتحاره لتثير مواضيع كل منها مهما لكن لا يتجرأ أي منهم عن البوح به. الكل يرفع الشعارات وينتظر من الآخرين الفعل والتضحية. قصة مكررة.

I fear that my experience of this play has been sullied by having to act in it under a poor directorial team. That said, it is a play with a fascinating history, and one that I think Erdman was extremely brave to write it in the first place given the Stalinist era that he was creating it in. It is an black comedy, with moments of pure ludicrocity which, when executed well should have the audience laughing regularly. I had the joy of playing Serafima, who had some hilarious scenes.

I would highly recommend reading this play to anyone with an interest on Stalinist Russia, particularly the cultural response to it.

Suicide is a good idea, though the thought of putting this at the start of this note seemed amusing in that it was thought as a game, wherein we see if it attracts any attention and then some harsh criticism and rebukes, but the fun part is more due to the fact that nobody is reading this and this is both a blessing and a curse, the former because your truly is free to put here whatever he goddamn pleases and the latter because it is such a loss for the earthlings who are not blessed enough to enjoy these musings – the last part is still part of the same Games People Play, though not likely to be inspired from the book by Eric Berne http://realini.blogspot.com/2013/09/g...

As for why suicide might be a good idea, this was actually inspired by one of the lectures of Jordan Peterson, the rising academic star, the thinker of the conservatives in this age, freely available on the internet, in which he interprets the Bible stories from a psychological perspective, with the opposite view from that taken by Nathaniel Branden http://realini.blogspot.com/2016/04/p..., and it is not meant literally, but as the start of a new époque, after one commits suicide in that he or she kills the old, malevolent, mean, improper self, they conceptuate what is Proper, start eliminating the wrong, sinful things they do and set the foundations for a new, better, proper individual, ready to follow the role models of Messiah, Jesus, Noah and others, who serve as an excellent aspiration point, which makes sense for, though they are perfect or near there, it is always good to aim high and why not towards the most admired ideals…by the way, sin comes from Greek and it means originally missing the mark, by not aiming high enough, or not even trying to hit the target…
Another though that came to mind watching the play that was on National Television last night, though on the remote Channel 3, though not for its entirety, for reasons of excessive length, at two and a half hours it is an adaptation that drags on at times and because the thought of suicide came from other quarters, close to home, where a fucking idiot of a neighbor, who had made a complaint at the police and mayor office when I was the president of the association and forced by other members I placed a playground next to my fence, though quite far from him, has decided over the past years to get a dog that barked continuously, loudly, for no apparent reason other than the moon was high, the leaves were falling, birds flew in the air, then got another dog that starts the morning in the same loud way, at three the children aged seven maybe gather for the first round of screams and piercing yells, to be followed when they finish, well into the dark of evening by a second set, of even more obnoxious, vile, overwhelming, shouting to high heaven or better still, deep hell, since well, this moron does not allow anyone to touch on his (I hope soon to be eternal) peace, but as for his own culpability, there is no such thing given that he belongs to a category well represented here of ciocoi, uneducated, despicable, arrogant, preposterous, pathetic arrivistes that are so well depicted by Trump.
So you see, suicide is a valid option when what you have around looks like eternal Hades, damnation by psychological, physical torture – I did come out to shout at them and say this is unacceptable, but what is left for me is to show them my ass on the balcony, for them to kiss it and see that if we are playing the games – from the same Eric Berne classic – of WDY, IOTHY, or better still Now I’ve Got You SOB, then there are two ways on this street and if you fuck with me, then it is more than appropriate for me to use the same shit and if you open the House of Horrors, Adventure Park the massive Shooting Range and whatever else you have in mind – oh, and by the way, he also placed a basketball ring with panel and then when they get tired of shooting, screaming and being devils, they just bang on forever on the panel and well, scream again- then I will have a swingers session and let the curtains off and lights on so that your brats can enjoy the horror to the full, if this is the Anything Goes season, voila…’We’ll drink nothing but champagne, cause I’m the boss’ and if you read this, which I know you don’t and this is the main reason why this raving Suicide Wish went on for so inexplicably long – it is the same pithecanthropus you need to blame if you are here, which by the way, you should not be…why are you still here, don’t you see that I am torn between Suicide and opening a brothel, House of BDSM to compete with the carousel of terrors next door…

All right, revenons a nos moutons, the above was just an attempt to look into the mind of Semyon so it is just fiction – after all, the cretin in question had been there before, making a massive fuss over something small, that he does now with tyrannical disrespect, as if he had to call the NATO forces for a mosquito and then he plays with Rhinoceros – as in Eugene Ionesco http://realini.blogspot.com/2014/06/r... and says he is special, he can be disturbed by a bug, but we have to swallow the mess made by his aliens and their Doomsday cries – Semyon decides to commit suicide but then never manages to complete his plan, making us think of Fyodor Dostoevsky and his last three minutes: the genius that is considered by many to be one of the five best writers ever had been condemned to die and looked at the last three minutes of his life, in front of the execution squad, allowing one minute to say goodbye to family, another to pass his life before his eyes and the last for a ray of sun that falls on the cupola of a nearby church and after he would have been pardoned, in the last moments, he would share with the readers of his Magnum opera the notion that life is extremely precious and if we all had the chance to be facing the last minutes or hours of our existence we would see that surviving even on an empty, meager rock in the middle of the ocean is preferable to death…unless of course we are determined to die or are forced to by the Forces of Evil, attacking from the nearby garden.

The play was banned in the days of Stalin, published in 1928 and then immediately forbidden and the author sent to the Gulag, a fate shared by so many in a country that alas is not free even today, when they have just voted (if they ever really did in sufficient numbers to have it valid) to allow Putin to rule for life, which is the very definition of a dictator, albeit one that played around the rules, including incentives for everyone in the package, from inflation proof pensions to marriages only between man and wife in the new constitution, who is facing these days some serious protests, far away from the Kremlin, in a region where goons from Moscow descended to arrest the governor, for a murder he had a part in fifteen years ago – in Putin’s Russia, they would just throw someone in without waiting that long and even execute them, proof being the death of Sergei Magnitsky – whose name is now in use for an Act, a bill passed in the American Congress to punish officials responsible for his death – a man that had tried to call attention to severe corruption, only to be tortured and then killed, a trial would continue even after he is no more, as a sign that the Kremlin would chase you even into the grave…then of course there are the killing of Litvinenko, with Plutonium no less, as another barbaric, devilish message that you will die in pain if you cross those ghouls – I better be careful here then – and the most recent attacks on the security of vaccine making companies, from which they want to steal secrets and probably compromise the efforts…

مسرحية محزنة .. واقعية، اختصرت فكرة توظيف الموت .. فحين يحاول العديد من شخوص المسرحية استغلال قضية انتحار سيميون باحالته الى قضية وبخدمته مصالح هؤلاء الافراد ..
لتتعاقد الاطراف التي تحاول الانتفاع من هذا الموت، ولتتضارب فيما بينها في حين اخر ..
في جدال يحتدم ويتطور ولطالما ينتهي بالاتفاق ونشوب النزاع مرة ثانية ..

"الموت نفسه لا يعني اي شيء، فالموت نفسه لا يعدي بأي افكار، لكن سبب الموت هو الذي يعدي بالافكار .. وبأمكاننا نحن ان نختلق اي سببٍ نُريد."

ومن الابداعات الجميلة في هذه المسرحية هي واقعيتها في تصوير الشعارات والعبارات الرنانة في قضايا كهذه، حيث يكتب الشعراء، وتتهافت الاخبار وكما عُبر عنها في المسرحية " الرأي العام بدأ يتحدث"
فحيث تحدث البلبلة .. تستشري الشعارات وتنمو القضايا ويموت الانسان ..

ويقول احد شخوص المسرحية

"كانت حياته تشبه الحب، اما حياتنا تشبه الخيانة .."

لتنتقل القضية من توظيف الموت "القضية" الى توظيف الكلمة " الميتة الى حية"

"كيف تكون الكلمة ليست مُرعبة؟ والكلمة كالسهم الطائر، إذا ما خرجت من الفم لم يعد بالامكان الامساك بها. هذا هو .. لا تستطيع الامساك بها، لكنهم يستطيعون الامساك بك، ولا يتركونك بسببها."


خلال المسرحية يخاطب سيميون هؤلاء الافراد بخاطب يبدو اكثر ما يكون وكأنه اشبه بملخص للمسرحية .. ولموضوعها بلسان كل فرد احيل موته الى قضية .. وبتحوله الاخير من انسان الى شعار، ينسى لمَ يموت ومن اجل ماذا :

"ان سيميون موجود ايها الرفقاء الاعزاء.. ها هو .. انتم لا ترونني من حيث تقفون يا رفقاء .. فلتنظروا اذن قليلاً ، سوف اتضخم بعدد من المرات، حتى يمكنكم رؤيتي من كل الاماكن، واذا كنت لا اتمكن من فعل ذلك بالحياة، فسوف احققه بالموت .. سوف اموت وابدأ الحديث مدفوناً، سوف اقول لهم كل شيء نيابةً عن الجميع وبصراحة وجرأة. سوف اقول لهم انني اموت من اجل .. من اجل …
لقد نسيت يا رفقاء .. نسيتُ يا رفقاء، من اجل ماذا اموت؟ لقد نسيتُ حتى ان اقرأ مُذكرة الانتحار !"

حكمة تولستوي وحبكة تشيخوف وفن بوشكين وحذاقة غوركي كلها تجشدت لدى "نيكولاي اردمان" الروسي الذي استمر اضطهاده طوال حياته ونفيه ومنعه من نشر كافة مؤلفاته وحكموا عليه بمحو اسمه، وقد عانت هذه المسرحيه الكثير من القمع والمنع في مسارح روسيا،
وما هي إلا كشف الحقيقه الكامله عن السياسات والطموحات الدنيئه.
مثل فيها الإنسان البسيط الساذج بأسلوب كوميدي ساخر مثال قويم للمواطن الروسي يتاجرون بحياته وعيشته ولا يكفيهم بل يدفعون به نحو الهاويه ويتاجرون بموته ايضاً ويستغلونه لتمثيل اهدافهم الدنيئه ورغائبهم الدفينه.
َليس فقط في روسيا إنما لدى كافة الدول ذات السياسات التعسفيه القمعيه لشعب مسحوق ذليل.
أنها (اقصوصه) مسرحيه صريحه تكاد تكون خفيه عن عيون المسحوقين النائمين لتوقظهم من سباتهم.
ربما لا يكتفي الأدب العالمي بكل الاتجاه نحو مسرحيات شكسبير وتولستوي، تشيخوف ومؤلفات دوستويفسكي بل عليه بأشباه هذا الادب الذي هاجمته السياسه طوال نشأته وتكوينه.

مسرحية جميلة وساخرة تذكرني بأعمال إدواردو دي فيليبوا، المؤلف متمكن من سلاسة الحوار بدرجة كبيرة تجعل القارئ مستمتع بكل جملة فيها، كذلك فبناء المسرحية نفسه بسيط ومشحون بالأفكار والدلالات دون بهرجة في الكتابة، المسرحية ممتعة في قرائتها وفي تصور تنفيذها على خشبة المسرح، خاصة أن فكرتها يمكن تطويعها ببساطة لتناسب أي مجتمع في اي فترة زمنية.

мне очень понравилось пьеса
она затрагивает довольно много моментов, местами смешно, там где не стоит смеяться, но основная мысль, которую в конце пытается донести главный герой
- дайте мне жить, как я живу, как я ХОЧУ жить
ну и плюс если рассматривать её в контексте того времени, что гг в руках любящей был инструментом для достижения из целей (так автор интерпретировал советскую власть)

'The Suicide' is one of the funniest plays I've ever read, just pure comedy that I'd love to see staged. Absolute absurdity. But it also gets so deep into relationships and philosophy and the value of life an death in a depth that truly sets this apart.

تدور المسرحية حول محاولات سيميون سيميونوڤيتش بودسيكالنيكوڤ للانتحار. يهدد زوجته بالانتحار ليعطيها درسًا ويؤدبها لتذكيره بأنه إنسانٌ عاطل و ديماغوجي. يصل الخبر إلى الجيران والعلن حتى تخرج محاولاته الانتحارية من الخاص إلى العام ويبدأ الآخرون باستغلال موضوع انتحاره إلى مصالحهم الشخصية مما يوحي بأن الأنسان مجرد فكرة.

من المضحك جدًا بأن مأساتك هي سلعة للكوميديا. يشعرني هذا بأن لا قيمة للمأساة هنا سوى الضحك. فما هو أكثر هزلية من إنسان عاطل يُهدد الآخرين بالانتحار؟ موضوع هذه المسرحية شيق جدًا ويطرح أسئلة كثيرة تخص الفرد والجماعة أيضًا. هل الانتحار والمأسآة صالحة لصنع الضحك؟ هل تحويلها للسخرية والضحك يحتوي قيمة وهدف؟ يعرف أرسطو الكوميديا: "الكوميديا محاكاة لفعل مشوه أو قبيح، ومثير للضحك، وله طول معين، وتام في ذاته، وفي لغة مشفوعة بكل أنواع التزيين." أكثر ما ضحكني في المسرحية هو أن البطل نفسه لم يكن جديّ في تهديده، فهو إنسان ديموغاجي لا يأبه لتهديداته ووعوده. بُنيت أحداث المسرحية كلها على تهديد كاذب وسوء فهم أدى إلى بيان جوهر الآخرين لاستخدام محاولات هذا المنتحر في مصلحتهم، فهم يشجعونه على الانتحار ويعطونه أفكار ليموت في سبيلها. ويأخذنا هذا إلى التساؤل ما إذا كانت القضايا العامة أهم من القضايا الشخصية؟

- "لا بد أن نتذكر أن القضايا العامة فوق القضايا الشخصية، إنما يكمن في هذا جوهر المجتمع المدني."
- "وما هو ذلك المجتمع المدني؟! إنه مصنع للشعارات. إنني هنا لا أحدثكم عن مصانع، بل أحدثكم عن كائن حي. ما الذي تشرحونه لي: "قضايا عامة" - "قضايا شخصية". هل تعتقدون أن الإنسان الذي يستمع إلى إعلان قيام الحرب يسأل مع من تلك الحرب؟ أو لم هذه الحرب؟ أو أي قيم وراء هذه الحرب؟ كلا، الإنسان يسأل: "أي دفعة سيطلبون للتجنيد، وأي دفعة يتركون؟"، وهو محق هذا الإنسان."

هوية الإنسان الفردية خالية وفارغة ما لم يحشوها المرء بهوية جمعية مفيدة. يقول سيميون سيميونوڤيتش: "بحق السماء؛ لا تسلبوا منا المعنى الأخير لوجودنا. اسمحوا لنا أن نقول أن حياتنا قاسية. حتى لو كان ذلك الكلام همسًا: كم هي الحياة صعبة. أيها الرفاق إنني أطالبكم نيابة عن ملايين البشر بأن تمنحونا حق الهمس. أنتم يا من تنهكمون في البناء لن تسمعونه. أؤكد لكم. يمكننا أن نعيش حياتنا كلها على ذلك الهمس."

الفردانية والقضايا الشخصية محط ضحك ما لم تكن تخص المصلحة العامة. وسيظل الإنسان "يهمس" لطالما لم يصحيه الضمير ليعمل شيئًا مفيد لنفسه ومجتمعه.

كوميديا ممتعة ، طرحت أفكار كثيرة وأسئلة متنوعة : منها هل يفترض على الشخص البسيط أن يسلم عقله لنخبة تتحكم فيه وتقنعه بالموت في سبيل تحقيق فكرها ، وما مفهوم البطولة هل هو التطلع وفعل ما لم يحدث عدم الالتفات لما هو موجود بالفعل مؤكد أن في الواقع والحياة ما يستحق أن نحيا ونتنعم فيه ، ثم هل القضايا العامة تتعارض مع القضايا الخاصة وما مدى مسبية هذا الأمر وإلى أي مدى قد تستغل النخب المشاهير وراغبي الشهرة تلك القضايا العامة في ألا يتمتع الفرد العادي بحياته وتسرق منه !!
