I highly recommend this book, "The Strength of the Hills" by Karen Peterson Mosley. The author knows how to engage her readers from beginning to end as she writes the true story (fiction style) of her ancestor Marie Madelaine Cardon. Marie Madelaine came from the mountains in Italy, but in the mid 1800's made her way with family and friends on a grueling journey to the western United Stakes. Karen Peterson Mosley continues by sharing with the reader the courageous life of this remarkable woman. ...more

Okay, so I know I am totally biased because I am related to the protagonist and to the author, but I really loved this book. I thought Karen did a really fabulous job weaving together the records of the family as well as other historical records to create a picture of what life was like for the Cardon family and Madelaine in particular. The book did lose a little momentum around the time Madelaine and Charles moved to Wyoming, but it picked up again soon after. I have heard many of the main poin ...more

Interesting true story of Madelaine Cardon and her family, who joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Italy and emigrated to America in the 1850s. This book follows Madelaine’s fascinating life from childhood to old age. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it.

How do you rate a book you wrote? I have read this book at least 10 times this year. I really wish I could read it "fresh" for the first time, now that I've been through the editing, trimming, reworking and redefining process of achieving publication. I rate it five stars not because of my amazing talent or skill as a writer, but because this story inspires me like no other. The heroine is a woman of faith, who choses The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but I admire anyone whose fai ...more

I was born and raised in Arizona, so I love sunshine, warm weather, and beautiful sunsets. I earned a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education, graduating cum laude from Brigham Young University. I enjoy musical theater and play classical piano and organ. I sing alto in the Timpanogos Chorale. My husband is a dentist and I have often been his office manager while I was raising our three sons and t ...more
