The Pawful Truth is the 11th book in the Cat in the Stacks cozy mystery series written by Miranda James. The series takes place in Athena Mississippi and focuses on Charlie Harris, a retired and part-time librarian who spends his free time babysitting his grandchildren, running a boarding house, and solving murders. He's a likable guy, very smart, and opens his arms to many people. At the same time, he is careful not to get himself hurt or trust everyone he meets. All-in-all, I like him a lot as ...more

I read The Pawful Truth for a prompt for The Goodreads Summer reading challenge. It was my first cosy mystery and have to say it was a very comforting change of pace for me.

The Pawful Truth is book 11 in the Cat in the Stacks series and I thought it worked really well as a stand-alone. I did feel like I would have liked to have known more about our main characters here with Charlie the librarian and Diesel the cat but didn’t feel like I missed anything about them to enjoy this story.

This is #11 in this cozy Cat in the Stacks series, but worked fine for me as a standalone.

A mystery and some adorable cats made this one enjoyable. I liked the protagonist, Charlie and his main coone cat named Diesel (he also has a new kitten). This mystery revolves around a campus setting where Charlie is taking a history course. Charlie has an uneasy feeling when he hears a confrontation between the professor and a young, female classmate.

I’m back on my cozy train this week with a review of the latest Cat in the Stacks mystery, The Pawful Truth. What a great title, first of all. I know some don’t love punny titles but I definitely do! I found this book filled with charm, interesting characters, and a fascinating mystery that certainly had me spinning as I tried to figure out the who and the why behind the murders.

Librarian and researcher Charlie Harris has decided to audit a history course offered by young, attractive, and

I don’t read many cozies, but when I do, I love a cat on the cover! This one is so cute! While The Pawful Truth is eleventh in the Cat in the Stacks series, I was able to read it as a standalone with no issues.

Charlie Harris, a loving grandfather, works in a library, and he decides to go back to school. He takes a medieval history course from a professor named Carey Warriner. There is one other “older” student in the class, Dixie Bell Compton. Dixie and the professor get into an argument,

This another cat mystery that is set around the world of library books, dusty classics taking your cat out for a walk. Funny yet so unwell because you don't see a big mian coon cat in libraries in the UK.
I read all of Diesel books if can read them in order all well but they only follow the family so its not nessary in no way does it spoil the series read them out of order, I read early ones out of order but once you read one you find one is not enough.

Charlie Harris has decided to indulge his love of history by auditing a class at Athena College. On his first day, he is impressed with his professor, Dr. Carey Warriner, who is obviously popular not only because of his good looks but also because of his abilities as a lecturer. However, part of an exchange between Dr. Warriner and a fellow student as Charlie is leaving concerns Charlie. When that student dies under mysterious circumstances, the campus rumor mill heats up, and Charlie is left to ...more

The Pawful Truth by Miranda James is the eleventh A Cat in the Stacks Mystery. There is background information in the first half of The Pawful Truth to aid those who are new to A Cat in the Stacks Mystery. Personally, I suggest you begin with Murder Past Due. This is the eleventh book in the Cat in the Stacks series. This is the first time reading this series and author.

I had nearly made it twenty percent into the book before I realized that the main character Charlie was indeed a male and not a woman like I assumed. Many cozy mysteries have main characters with names that could pass for either gender. This is one of those.

There was quite a bit of what I would call filler story in the beginning half of the book. Not too much seemed

When Charlie decided to enroll in a history class he’d been interested in, he had no idea that he would again become embroiled in not one, but two murders! Since he knew the first victim, Dixie Belle, he felt compelled to find out what happened to her. This lead him into a complicated web of lies and secret romance. Despite the warnings from his family, when the second murder occurred, Charlie knew that he couldn’t let the threads go until he had the answer, however complicated the

Miranda James is back with another installment in the Cat in the Stacks series. THE PAWFUL TRUTH is the eleventh book in the series. Now, for me, I have only read one other book in the series, but it’s definitely enough for me to get a feel of the author’s writing style.

I definitely think this series has a slower and more mature pace than some of the other Cozy Mysteries out there and so, I do think I have to be in a certain mood for it. THE PAWFUL TRUTH has Charlie going back to school, so

Charlie Harris and his Maine Coon cat, Diesel, are back and in fine form. Charlie is auditing a course in Early Medieval History, given by Dr. Carey Warriner. Grandpa, Dad, Archive Librarian, Landlord, Student, and Diesel’s person, Charlie Harris has a very full life. I feel bad giving this book 2 stars I really enjoyed the storyline and the cat but the tedious monotonous day-to-day stuff drove me crazy ! 2 whole pages dedicated to people eating lemon cake and how they were eating it and putting their fork down etc.

There are some mystery series whose characters are the draw as much as the plot, maybe more so. I was willing to overlook Robert B. Parker's minimalist mystery plots in his final Spenser books because I loved to read about Spenser and Hawk. I feel the same way about Miranda James' Cat in the Stacks books. While I understand what happened in The Pawful Truth, a mystery set in the world of academia, I wasn't really very interested in the love triangles. It's Charlie Harris and Diesel, Charlie's ...more

The Pawful Truth (Cat in the Stacks #11) by Miranda James.

This was a pleasure to read as I needed to be in good company with Charlie Harris and Diesel. Charlie has decided to audit a class in medieval history. And the story was...meh. Even when its revealed at the end what its based on, I was still like "Eh, meh" and thinking that didn't make the story any better IMO.
Diesel is still an amazing cat and Ramses is growing on me. And I did really love the parts about the grandkids -such a sweet little look into that life.
This is still a good series and I am not sorry that I read this book; I just feel it wasn't one of the author's best.

The Pawful Truth is a fun and sagacious 11th installment in the Cat in the Stacks series by Miranda James. Charlie Harris, along with his trusty Maine Coon cat, Diesel, enjoys the world of academia while inadvertently solving mysteries along the way. The current mystery involves a “mature” student, several professors, and a Shakespearean plot – all the ingredients you need for a puzzling murder mystery.

The Pawful Truth is the eleventh story in the Cat in the Stacks cozy mystery series and this story is set in the world of academia. It starts off with librarian Charlie Harris auditing a class with a professor whose lectures he had heard nothing but wonderful things about. A little nervous about his difference in age with his fellow students, he felt less conspicuous when another student joined the class who was also older than most of the other pupils. I'm huge fan of this series and when I received the ebook this morning I immediately started to read it (I was home ill so I had the time even if there's quite a long list of ARC to review).
I was hooked since the first pages. It was like meeting again a groups of old friends and being updated on what was going on in their life.
The mystery part does not start soon but the first part of the book introduce us to the victim and the possible suspects.

Excellent entry in this fine series. Old movie buffs will appreciate the irony in not only the book name (Pawful Truth = The Awful Truth) but in the naming of the characters as combos of the ones in the movie. Clever!!!!!! A must read for all Charlie and Diesel fans.

First book I've read in this series and it worked fine as a standalone. The killer was SO obvious I was hoping to be wrong but I wasn't. The cat made it super obvious and so was the plot overall. That said, entertaining book and I can see why this series is popular.
