The first thing about this book that got my attention was the cover because, Helloooo Mr. Yummy! Then I started reading and the book is set on the Georgia coast, one of my favorite areas of the country, so that's check number two in the positive column. And the hero and heroine are middle age, which I love because of the reminder that love can happen no matter one's age, so another plus for me. And don’t let this one fool you. Just because the main characters are more mature doesn’t mean their chemistry isn’t crazy hot. This one sparks, sizzles, arcs and explodes with a BOOM!
If you don’t believe in love at first sight, Joe Rouger and Bernice Armstrong will make a believer out of you. Only for them it's more of a full-of-lust, all-consuming, possessive, my-soul-found-its-other-half love at first sight. I know it's just words on a page, but I swear, I could feel the heat crackle and sizzle in the looks these two share! Joe and Bernice share one of those looks, but it's not until a year later that they find each other again. When they do, they’re both 100% committed, but they have a fight on their hands, battling affluence and old money of the deep south, and someone determined to destroy their relationship by any means necessary.
This is a new-to-me author and, with all of the above, I’m thinking it's too good to be true, so I brace myself, anticipating there’ll inevitably be something disappointing about this story. You know how it is. There's always some degree of chance when trying an author you’ve never read before. But the only disappointment is in my wasting the unnecessary pessimistic anticipation, because this book is the bomb!! These characters owned my heart, and I'll definitely be checking out both the Wallflowers and the Until series!
This is an author who is clearly seasoned in her craft, with a warm, inviting style that easily draws the reader in. With the emotional depth and feel I’ve seen from authors like Hope Ramsay and Emily March, these characters felt like life-long friends, and I was eager to travel with Joe and Bernice on their journey to forever, absorbing every word the way a dying soul in the desert drinks when finally given water. Their story is heartfelt, humorous, poignant, steamy and inspiring, and the happiness of your romantic heart depends on you heading to the 1-Click button immediately so you can start reading this delightful, delicious, phenomenal story.
