This is the second book by Addison Cain that I have read . The first was Cathedral and I loved it! Her book Catacombs is about The king of vampires the ancient Darius,he is a complete monster! A vampire who might be very handsome but who is a sadist and passes off what he does to pearl as love! Make no mistake this is not a vampire romance but a erotic horror and theirs no love making or tenderness in this vampire. He is demented and his desire is depraved! But every night he comes to pearl and she can not remember anything that he has done the night before because he wipes her memory at the end of every night. He says it's for her own good so she isn't tormented by memories of her past abuse but it's just part of his sick game that he plays with her,but even though he hurts her time and time again doing the most awful things to her she craves his touch and his blood. I will say that this book made me uncomfortable a few times because of darius violent ways, but it is horror erotica and it's not suppose to be pretty or sweet and let me tell you it's not! Addison is a fabulous writer and she knows how far to push her readers and her storytelling is awesome as well. I wanted to read this before darius and pearls continuing story Relic comes out at the end of October. At least I'm now prepared for the fuckery to begin! In for penny in for a pound as they say! Until next time Luv's💕💋

Woah!
What did I just read?
This was such a twisted delight of erotic Horror mixed in with a huge dash of macabre menace.
A tragedy in the makings just counting down the seconds and minutes until that haunting and wretched end-game: Got to say here I devoured every ill-fated circumstance placed before me.
Everything unnatural and grotesque about this story hooked me in like a like a fish on a line.
Catacombs itself is not in any way a romance: so if that is what you are expecting here turn around and walk away: there is nothing fanciful and loving between these pages.
What we are given is a sinister descent into obsession and madness where Pearl imprisoned by the very monster she also craves awakens each day with no memory of the days passed.
A complete blank canvas for Darius to paint his own particular brand of brutality and sweet care.
He is the puppet master and Pearl his own personal marionette.
The sole provider of Pearl's happiness and health.
And If like me you're drawn to the darkness within: revelling in the bizarre and outlandish the Catacombs is probably the story for you.
A story that drags the reader into the depths of the dark and is completely unapologetic in its delivery and intent.
This was such a distinct and different read and that finale: just Woah!
This is one twisted tale that I highly recommend it may be short but it certainly packs a punch.
I give very few novellas the full five stars: but Catacombs, in my opinion, deserves every single one.
Just be aware before reading this that it is a dark read with dubious consent throughout know your own limits.
So yeh this one for me was fantastic and gets a massive thumbs up and I am so excited to hear that this premise is being developed into a new series: I for one can't wait.
Catacombs originally featured in the anthology "When The Dark Wins": This collaboration is no longer available for purchase.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Catacombs
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

You worship only me. He whispered the words into her mind. I am your God.

WTF have I read?

Horror erotica
Decadence
Deliciously perverted
Totally engaging
Maddening and disturbing

Daywalker Pearl tries to make herself disappear in New York. She does not understand her true nature until she commits a murder in order to defend herself. It is how she will meet the greatest predator of the city. Vampire.

She will be imprisoned by this monster who keeps erasing her memory. Each day she wakes up, she has no memory of the days passed.
Darius is brutal, savage and keeps breaking her continually because she can regenerate.
Does he care for her?
Is it just a game?
Is she just his favourite toy?

“We were playing a game before you fell asleep. I think we should play another.”

Every time the prince of darkness visits her, he reintroduces himself. He is her GOD. If she doesn’t like it, she will be convinced to admit it through pain and pleasure and ecstasy.

I have to admit that he is one of the most interesting monsters I have ever come across in horror erotica.

“Come now, my Pearl. Let me show you my love.”
It was almost impossible to speak. “This is not love.”
Groaning out a blissfully broken laugh, the man licked her tears. “In my thousands of years ruling our kind, I have never cared for a single female with such devoted attention. Not one of my own flock have I used since you became my possession—no matter how the slavering bitches beg for it. I have filled your home with treasures; drained many humans night after night so my face might please you and my blood might be sweet.”

The days will become years and the story finishes a bit abruptly. I had invested so much in this story that I was on edge when it finished.

What happens next? What? What? What?

Okay... I needed a minute after finishing this to gather my thoughts, because fuck me, but Addison Cain is a sadist. I figured this out after my first Addison Cain read and it's reinforced EVERY SINGLE TIME I read one of her books.
I had this on my kindle for weeks before tackling it because I somehow had a feeling it would gut me.
I was not wrong.
You can't go in expecting an HEA (You don't get one here! Just the opposite, in fact), but you should expect to get your head fucked with and for your heart to be put through a meat grinder. I'm talking... Sweeney Todd style. Yes... Your heart is being grinded up and put into a pie so that Addison can EAT it and keep gaining more power & beauty (just like Darius) to further rule the world of erotic horror.

I’m not sure whether to cringe in horror or to swoon in delight. One thing is for sure though, I enjoy the story. It is engaging in its macabre sense. It is not for week stomach.

Consensual or not, there was still some sort of caring on some acts on Darius end. It was not enough for redemption but it was enough to look forward more Cradle of Darkness tales.

This is so dark, so very dark and please note the category it is in. There is no sweet ending to be had here, no redemption, no joy.

This is a wonderful tale that takes you down the rabbit hole of depravity, evil and terror. It held me mesmerised by its intricate beauty, whist igniting my anxiety and flooding my soul with horror.

It's a twisty tale that left me with many questions, though these were questions mainly of my own making. Was Pearl better of without her memories? Was she happier when she allowed Darian to win?

This has it's erotic moments, it has it's dubious consent moments and it has its endless moments filled with eternal desolation. It isn't an easy read, it most certainly isn't a romantic read, don't expect an easy ending, don't expect rainbows, unicorns and a supposedly dark hero who turns into a romantic sap the moment he meets the heroine.

Do expect a far from heroic, very obsessed and incredibly evil character whose fixation on the heroine leads her to a very dark place. Expect erotic darkness, an amazing short story and an ending that will be everything you want and also everything you totally hate all wrapped up in the sheer f**ked-up-ness that is the hallmark of this amazing author.

New York. The city that never sleeps as there’s always something to do or going on 24/7. That's just what Pearl needs as she is a cursed abomination who keeps to her religious faith, trusting that eventually God will take pity on her plight and reverse the curse she's living under.

In the meantime Pearl lives in a rundown one room apartment working nights as a cigarette girl at a trendy supper club making barely enough to make ends meet. The positive side is that if she continues to play her cards right, she should be able to stay in New York longer than she has elsewhere. As long as she remains invisible while living in plain sight.

All it takes is one walk home from work and one mistake to ruin things. One man who is responsible for a new Hell that Pearl is about to live.

* * * *

Short (78 page) read that I'm not sure is a serial series or the start of short story erotic horror thrillers. I'm leaning to serial as the content of this story are classical attention grabbing, highly charged multiple open ended story line plots, and a vague or cliffhanger ending that indicates a 'to be continued' premise.

I want to make it clear that this is a highly charged erotic horror type of story, bordering on the macabre. It's not fluff or have any positive silver lining outcome other than, for now, Pearl surrenders to her fate. Whether the future has a positive slant related to this I don't know as the story ends before that is addressed or looked at.

As this is a new release and the author does like to keep her stories under wraps for potential readers to experience for themselves, I'm not going to share the different characters or my thoughts on the degree of success the story had on me and my opinion. Quite frankly I'm doing that because I'm not sure. I finished this book last night and still on the fence. I think until I get my hands on a follow up to see where the author is going with this new Gothic romance/erotic thriller/horror series (?) I just don't know.

What I do know is any potential reader is going to get an overly saturated dose of darkness and 'push comfort zones' graphic erotic scenes that had my own girlie parts hurt in sympathy for the heroine. Yet, this sort of adult fiction has a fan base who will enjoy this story on the merits of dark twisted horror fiction. I've gone to the stronger rating as my personal feeling (based on this story alone without any follow up info) is a 3.5.

Let the reader beware though that this should have trigger warnings so proceed with caution.

Lord this is why Cain is the queen of dark, twisted romance! As I read this story I hoping for some kinda twisted HEA, but that's not good enough for this story. No, it had to have a ending that keeps you up at night. I still wondering if that could really happene!?

A Happy Twisted ACR review freely given.

This book is dark and disturbing. There is a disclaimer and sensitive readers should heed it. Mrs. Cain makes no apologies nor concessions concerning the dark depravity of this book. It is NOT a romance. It is the first of three books which feature the day walking vampire, Pearl. I enjoyed this horror book. It’s a quick, transporting read and great for this time of year. Not for the faint of heart! It has graphic depictions of sexual violence, but Cain is a very talented author. If you can go there, take a dive in this book. The third book in the series promises the MC a satisfying resolution.

I am at a loss for words here.

I am not usually a fan of vampire books. But this one blew my mind. I highly enjoyed the execution of the story, not just the story itself. A friggin masterpiece among the vampire book world (in my opinion).

It was a work of art. Like being drug into the many circles of purgatory with Pearl. Ever wondered what it would be like to be eternally tortured in Hell? this story will give you the glimpse you seek..

I rank my love for this book .. up with The Wrong Side of Heaven by Yolanda Olson.

The appreciation of the book doesn't really come from the story line itself...but rather the artistry of how the story was executed. Kudos to the author. I truly admire your mind.

*5 stars. I rank this book hovering around pitch black*

I was hesitant about reading this, since the last Addison Cain book I read, Dark Side of the Sun, was pretty awful. This actually wasn't too bad though. Reading about Pearl's life in the 1920s was interesting, and the rest of the book after that was pretty horrifying. The sex scenes were actually better and made more sense than those in DSotS, although they were horror-based and extremely graphic.

Cain does still have her stylistic writing quirks that don't entirely make sense to me. It's almost like she lets herself get lost in the writing process while trying to capture the scene perfectly and doesn't go back to fix it up later. Interesting grammar choices are made and don't quite work. But unlike in DSotS, I could deal with that here.

This was a really quick short read, although it took me longer because I kept getting distracted by other things. But when I did pick it up, the pages flew by. This is *almost* enough to make me want to read the next book in the series, although probably only if it's free.

Three surprised stars.

What a fantastic shocker of a read from Addison, this little novella is a monstrosity of the finest degree - there's nothing of romance in here, its well and truly a horror read!!

Pearl is a little different from the rest of us, and she knows it, she tries to keep low profile and blend in, but certain people will always try and take advantage, and that's when the blood starts to flow as she defends herself from a potential rapist.

She is found and mutilated by what she thought were angels, but were just the opposite, as they dragged her to their Master for judgement and punishment. The Master becomes obsessed with her and takes her for his own amusement and delight. She ends up reliving the same night, again and again as he wipes her memories and she has to relive the night again, its her living hell.

The Catacombs are not a place you would ever like to visit!!! But what a story, oh my word was I engrossed in this!! Deliciously dark, brutal, sinister, vile, hideous - a shocker of a read and just up my street, I absolutely loved it, I only wish it was a bit longer as I would've loved more of it, the sick person that I am!! Read if you dare, its well worth it!!!

“You worship only me. He whispered the word into her mind. I am your God”

Whoa nelly! First, I’m a huge Addison Cain fan! Let me tell you, this story is like NOTHING you’ve ever seen her write before. I loved the new subject matter and characters, and I LOVED how dark it was. I can’t say too much without giving the story away, but I can say that the dynamic of the characters was spot on. I literally couldn’t put this story down until the last word!

Damn! I knew this was a dark story, one that had no chance of a hea.....but i wasn’t prepared for the mayhem it would cause within my mind!
It totally blew any sanity i had out of the window,because....how could i even like the depravity dripping from the pages?
How could i enjoy what was done, each and every night,to poor Pearl?
Evil really has a new name, and it is Darius!
I am in awe of the brilliance of Addison’s writing, this is a story that is....i have no words for it,só good!

Now,all i need is some therapy.....lol

This novella really deserves more stars because it managed to be incredibly well written and compelling despite the fact that it was so completely and utterly depraved. So while I couldn't stop reading it, I can't say I enjoyed it exactly. I'm sort of confused about how I feel about this.

I know I am going to get flack for this review but here goes.
I love vampire books do this one enticed me and many friends recommended it but it was just okay for me. I found myself at chapter 7 skimming (and I never skim). The only reason I gave it a 4 ⭐ instead of a 3 ⭐ I because there no grammar issues or spelling mistakes.
This story could have been so much more!

Vampire erotic horror novella that doesn’t go anywhere with its unique concept. Vampire heroine is trapped under the city by a master vampire who wipes her memory each night when he visits for rough play. Some gothic thrills when she discovers diary notes she’s written for herself.

Disclaimer!
Do not read this when you're alone in the house at night!!
You need a sunlit reading place, with butterflies and fluffy bunnies, and a stiff drink.
You'll need all of it, believe me !!!
Do not visit the Catacombs!!! You might find a centuries old secret there!
Believe me when I tell you evil lurks there.
When I finished this story I slathered my whole body with lotion!

So I have to admit this story took me a minute to figure out. But what a fantastic account once it got going. Catacombs isn't a full-length story or anything. Catacombs is a get to know story about the ruling vampire king and his newfound treasure that he refuses to let go.

This is a dirty, disgusting, disturbing, freaking awesome discovery! I can't wait for Cathedral to come out this month!!

This was a well-written vampire horror novella. I want more! I loved the writing style, and couldn't put it down. There was graphic abuse that was painful to read--take the warnings seriously before starting this. This was NOT a dark romance or love story. No love or romance at all. No hea. This was dark, disturbing, sick and twisted. Truly a horror story.

Each morning (or is it night?) is a new life. No memories, no pain for our precious Pearl. Yet even with the lack of memories, she can feel the wrongness, the perverse darkness each time he sets his eyes upon her.
Each new rising is spent torn between crying out for a god that has forgotten her or giving in to the one who now torments her
Darius has ensured that she would never suffer again (except at his hands), he takes care of his treasure -ensures that she is polished and ready to be "admired" anew each awakening
This is erotic horror done right - No HEA - No hope - Just the cold darkness of knowing there is no way out

Don't understand the great reviews.

I'm thankful this was a quick read . It was woefully inadequate in entertainment . It's about a naíve young female vampire who doesn't know that she is a vampire . She believes herself to be sick and that she's the only one with the illness. As a result of her killing a rapist she is taken prisoner by a brutal ancient vampire who decides to keep her for his own sex toy who he uses and abuses . Thats it . The whole book . Like I said , I'm glad it was short !
