When Liam Sutherland was a lad of fifteen summers, he saved a Sassenach lassie’s life, and secretly vowed to always keep her safe. As the prized warrior for his clan, and youngest son of the laird, his responsibilities at the castle continue to mount, and just when he’s about to forge a name for himself, he receives a mysterious missive that has the power to make him leave everything behind.
Cora Segrave, daughter of an English baron, owes her life to the Scot who saved her years ago during a border raid. When her family home is destroyed, and they are taken prisoner, there is only one man she knows can save her—the one man she’s never been able to forget.
Answering Cora’s plea for aid will jeopardize Liam’s reputation, and maybe even cause a rift with his family, but a vow is a vow, and he cannot turn his back on her—or his heart. The only choice he has is to save her before it’s too late, and pray his family and king will understand. In saving her, just maybe he’ll be able to save himself.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 Some writers just hit the right spot with their books every time, Eliza seems to do that consistently. Her characters are so engaging and real , family units it feels you’ve grown up with and into , The Sutherland’s is like this for me . Liam Sutherland once gave a young girl ,Cora, a Vow of protection when he rescued her , since that day he’s thought about her many times , many times he’s gone over the border into England and wondered should he go to see her , many times he’s turned away and not done so . Now ,when he isn’t expecting to , he saves her again , will he let her go a second time or this time will it be for keeps . Cora needs her saviour yet again , she’s not a weak person ,but some things are not easy to overcome when there is only one of you , your mothers in the dungeon, and your home is overrun . This is such a page turner, it moves at a great pace , not a dull moment ,and always has you dying for the next conversation or encounter, especially between our lovebirds. Some great characters too , Liam’s dad Magnus makes a welcome appearance , Tad too is back , these are people from past books and really give this one a homey feel , pulling you back into their world . I’d recommend this book and the series . I received an advance copy of this book and chose to submit a review
Omg this book so amazing and I love the characters and it was wow!! The love between Liam and Cora was so beautiful and they had the great chemistry!! Sigh Liam is swoon worthy!! Eliza is amazing and I can’t wait to devour the rest of the series!!
Honestly, the only reason I keep listening to this series is because I’ve been driving a lot, and I wanted something entertaining playing in the background.
I don’t know what it is about this author’s work, but all her books seem to lack that spark. She had a really unique plot idea in this novel, and the hero and heroine had potential as individuals and together, but somehow the plot ended up being only entertaining, not engrossing, and the characters always lacked sexual and romantic chemistry, despite the reader getting to see inside their thoughts. The sex scenes weren’t cringey by any means, but they’re not steamy either—rather boring, in fact. I haven’t figured out what it is that she’s missing, but as romances these books are quite forgettable.
Sir Liam Sutherland is on Sutherland lands for a mission for his king. Liam was ordered to stop Ughtred, take him prisoner and send his men back to England. Of course Liam’s mission didn’t only stop there but he also had to take control of Ross Castle. When Liam receives a smudged missive written by Cora Seagrave begging for his help; a girl from his past, a girl he knew from his childhood, a girl Liam loved and managed to keep safe by a secret marriage-Liam knew he could not ignore his desire to help her. When Liam gets to Cora’s castle home he finds the castle is burning and he is desperate to find Cora. Liam does get to Cora in time to save her and take her to safety. Liam was definitely taking a risk in saving Cora he knew he was turning his back on his mission and king. Luckily, Ughtred was the one burning Cora’s home so Liam’s loyalty to the king is still maintained. Still there is a secret that Cora holds much more powerful than her hidden marriage to Liam that could not only destroy two countries but everyone Liam and Cora hold dear. Will Liam be able to stop and save not only himself but his family, country and most of all Cora from war or will their love destroy them in the end? This book surely kept one on their toes with the fast paced heart stopping action from beginning to end and a great story overall! Sure the story is part of a series and there might be a small part of misapprehension to read the book out of sequence. Luckily the plot is pretty easy to understand and hard not to get mixed up in. Also the book can really stand alone without much confusion. Of course it still wouldn’t hurt to read the series just to understand the characters a bit more. Liam is a truly tormented chivalrous hero always wanting to do the right thing. Sure he has he faults and at times will make you pull your hair out because he can be so exasperating especially in his treatment of Cora he manages to win your heart nonetheless. Cora the brave beautiful heroine is definitely Liam’s equal in every way too. Of course Cora’s family situation will annoy most or is it fully explained. The story manages to captivate holding one spellbound until the very last page!
The Highlander’s Secret Vow is the fourth book in the Sutherland Legacy series by Eliza Knight. Again, while each book stands on its own – characters and a few minor events from previous books are mentioned and it’s best to listen to these in order.
While I truly enjoyed the others, this is probably my favorite so far. I just adore Knight’s mix of sweet, sexy, mystery, suspense and a little humor. These books are so easy to listen to and Liam and Cora are particularly endearing. Most of the conflict come from external sources so there’s little unnecessary angst. I also love that she gives the characters plenty of time to get to know each other and I always feel like they’re perfect for each other.
The pacing of this one was fantastic with a big rescue, travel, a battle, and several people who can’t be trusted. I really loved the ending and the chance to do a little catching up on the other Sutherlands. I do admit to wishing one character would have fallen off a horse or something given their behavior, but Knight is kinder than I am.
Looking forward to the final book of the Sutherland siblings, featuring Blair, The Highlander’s Enchantment.
Narration: Antony Ferguson continues to be a great match with Knight’s writing and these characters. It’s so easy to dive right back into this world with Ferguson in my ears.
The Highlander's Secret Vow The Sutherland Legacy Book 4 By Eliza Knight ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Liam Sutherland was only 15 years old when he saved an English girls life, and he has vowed to always keep her safe. Which is quite the promise for any 15 year old boy to make. He is the prized warrior for his clan and youngest son of the Laird so it's no wonder that his responsibilities at the castle grow over time. Just when all is going perfect for him, he receives a mysterious message that has the strength to make him run and help leaving everything behind him in chaos.
Cora Segrave is the daughter of a disliked English baron, and she owes her life to the young Scotish boy who saved her years ago during a border raid. When her family home is overtaken by brutal unknown men her Father is killed and her Mother is thrown in the dungeon. All she knows is that there is only one man who can save her. He's also the one man she's never been able to forget.
Running to help Cora will jeopardize Liam's reputation, and possibly cause a rift with his family, but he made a vow to her so many years ago and he is determined to keep that vow. Can he save Cora before it's too late and will he cause the biggest problem he's ever had with his family? If he gets to her in time can two young hearts beat as one?
Eliza Knight's books are so incredibly intresting. They are rich with historical fiction and historical romance. It will leave you reading long into the night. The best part of this book is revisiting with characters from past books. I also enjoy the way Ms. Knight writes as I can envision what I'm reading making me feel like I'm right there in the book. I think this book is another hit and can't wait to see what Ms. Knight brings us next.
If you have never read an Eliza Knight book you just don’t know what you’re missing. The Highlander's Secret Vow is book 4 inThe Sutherland Legacy series. Though in a series this can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you start at the beginning, you won’t be disappointed. What I love about Eliza’s story is that she put her hero and heroine in some really tricky situation and does not sugar coat it. As this is a medieval romance I expect the hardship of this time and Eliza does not disappoint. Her characters are just wonderful and her descriptions are stop on. This story has a marriage of a very young couple, a fire, injury, misunderstandings, jealousy, honor, a self absorb mother, evil, death, murder, a loving father, rescue, pride, healing and love. Fabulous reading and I highly recommend you read this book.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Eliza Knight always writes wonderful romance novels. This is an excellent quick novel to read as it’s only 20 chapters. Anthony Ferguson always does an excellent job with his narrations, so if you prefer audiobooks or can multitask while listening to the story you should love the audiobook as well. A young, beautiful English girl is rescued by a handsome young Scotsman. What he does to save her comes back later to alter his life. I listened to the audiobook while I was sewing. Pairing together these two professionals gives you the best of both worlds. I highly recommend this pair. ❤️
Eliza Knight has become a tried and true historical Scottish romance author I always look forward to reading. With a flare for just enough authentic details interwoven into an intriguing, romantic storyline, I never seem to tire of her dashing and daring main couples, as they inevitably stumble into love, all while fighting off enemies yet surrendering their hearts to one another.
Liam is a lion on the battlefield, folks. He’s a loyal man who takes his vows verra, verra seriously. From his unwavering loyalty to his king and country to a promise he made a very young lass years ago, he has tried to be a man of honor. I must say I was not expecting the big reveal regarding their past connection. Somehow though this author took that unusual situation and made it work.
Cora came across calm in a crisis but very much in need of a savior, especially from her annoying mother. Honestly, I don’t know how she restrained herself from doing that woman bodily harm. Instead, she seemed to take her and everything else on the chin. Considering Liam and Cora were on opposing sides of two feuding countries, their relationship was destined to be tested as it put them in a tight spot from the get go.
I was a bit confused why Liam stayed away for so long knowing how he left things with Cora. We were given an explanation, but I found it an “Oh, really?” one. I just had to nob my head and go with it, folks. Along with why she kept quiet for so long, as well. It was quite an important, big secret, my fellow romance book loving friends. It affected both of their futures in a very big way. It was disappointing to read the brief, casually dropped hint that Liam did not stay celibate during the 13 year separation. Realistically, I get it, but what can I say? It was still a punch to my avid romantic heart anyway. That’s just the way I roll. Fortunately, we were spared specific details.
I did stay fully engaged with the seamless writing and continuously evolving plot that centered around several sub characters, as this couple slowly but surely found a way to fulfill their destiny, finding a way to stay together from then on.

(I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review, nor is there any affiliation or relationship between this reviewer and the author/publisher.)
I loved the premise for this book. Great story idea. But I was a little let down with the execution.
This is the second book I have read by this author where I found the heroine to be kind of boring. I absolutely loved A Highlanders Gift, so I thought I would try another book in the series but I’m not sure I will continue. I started to lose interest towards the end. In fact I think I zoned out for the last chapter.
I think Antony Ferguson does a wonderful job with his voices, although I didn’t care for how he made Robert the Bruce sound. He made him sound more noble and aristocratic, when I picture him as a mans man. He became king because he was a fighter and lead the Scots as rogues, so I didn’t care for his voice. But he does great accents and I love his voice for the Hero.
Another thing that didn’t sit right with me was Liam married Cora when they were considered children, but also old enough to take vows and the marriage be legal. It sort of bothered me that he was unfaithful to her with his body. It wasn’t something that was thrown in the readers face or even talked about. But there were subtle mentionings that had been with other women. If he thought about retrieving her every time he was in the area then he still felt a strong connection to her and I just don’t think he should have been sowing his wild oats. I think he would have been a much more interesting character if it was known that he didn’t sleep around. Maybe even a running joke amongst his family and closest friends. Because it would have all made sense when it came out that he had taken a wife when he was 15 or 16 I can’t remember exactly. Anyway, that kind of stuck with me throughout the story like a dark cloud.
I flip flopped between 3 & 4 stars. I wanted to love it but there was something that was missing for me. There was so much building of the love story between Liam & Cora that there was really no other story line. Whispering & secrets that didn’t turn out to be of any real value to the book, I just kept waiting for something to happen.
Whilst on a mission for the king of Scotland to locate and eliminate the husband of the laird of a rogue clan, renowned warrior Liam Sutherland receives a message that changes everything. When he was just 16 he saved the life of a young Englishwoman and vowed to always keep her safe before leaving her tucked away in a convent. But Cora Segrave, daughter of an English baron, did not remain at the convent and now she's in trouble, her home destroyed, her father murdered, her mother imprisoned. She's never been able to forget Liam and knows he's the only hope she has of being saved now.
Liam is on the verge of completing his most glorious mission yet, but even his vow to his family and his king isn't enough to make him break his years old vow to Cora; a man is only as good as his word and Liam won't break his now. He just has to hope and pray that his family and the king will understand. With his hard-earned reputation in jeopardy and an enemy to destroy, honoring his vow and finally claiming Cora for his own may be a moot point.
I have to say Liam's devotion to his vow to Cora frustrated me for the fact that he only kept certain parts of it over the years of their separation, however, given their ages I suppose it does make sense. This one was full of action, drama and intrigue right from the start. It had me anxious and unsure of who to trust the whole time and had much more action than is typical of this genre. I found both main characters to be likable and i was cheering for them to finally be able to be together.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Liam Sutherland is a Highland warrior in service to his king, but one summer when he was fifteen, he saved a Sassenach lassie’s life and vowed to protector always. Liam has often thought of his Sassenach wife. During a boarder raid Cora Segrave owes her life to the Scot who saved her and left her at an abbey where she would be safe. She’s in desperate need of a savior again her father has been murdered, her mother imprisoned so sends for Liam, but will he arrive soon enough to save her life a second time. Liam and Cora never told their parents of their meeting or marriage, Liam never told his king he was married all those years ago when he was on a mission for the king. Both remember their young love, both desperately want a chance at life and love with each other, but are they strong enough or courageous enough to go after the happy ever after they both desperately want. A captivating book filled with intrigue, betrayal and romance in this story of enemies one who is English, one Scottish who secretly wed and fall in love, a love that’s lasted fifteen years. They deserve a second chance to right the wrongs and find their HEA! I know you’ll love this story as much as I did!!! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
Sometimes the past merges into the future. Liam Sutherland saved the life of Cora Segrave when he was only fifteen. He made a promised to always keep her safe and protect her. When that call came years later, there was no way to ignore it. Cora needed him and he had to go help her! Sigh, there is no way to resist a noble highlander and Liam is one of the best. Eliza Knight is a master of bringing her characters alive to the point of feeling their emotions and hearing their voices (ok looking at the front cover never hurts either!!) But truly she always pulls me into the story quickly and does not let go until the end. Liam had thought about Cora over the years but never was successful in getting to see her. But her home has been destroyed and her family taken as prisoners and she prays he can save them. Hopefully this time they can be together forever. I enjoyed this story so much and having some secondary characters make appearances from previous stories was so much fun. Do not miss this addition to the Sutherland Legacy Series and although it can be read as a standalone, you want to read the rest, trust me!!
Liam Sutherland was loyal to a fault. He and his men were headed to the Scotland -English board under orders from the King to bring back Ughtred Ross. He is the husband of Ina Ross, that was under arrest in Stirling Castle. The Ross’s were known to be causing trouble along the border and undermining Robert the Bruce. There was a traitor among them, and Liam needed to find the answer. As he traveled along his mind went back to when he was a lad of 16 and saved the life of a young English lass, as her castle was under attack. He vowed to always protect her and to this day he honored her. As they made their way, they stopped a young lad traveling down the road and discovered that he was a messenger; in search of Liam Sutherland. What could this mean, as he came from the English Boarder. As he read the message, it discovered it was from Cora Segrave and her home was under attack again. Could this be the same lass he had saved before? Eliza Knight has given us a wonderful exciting story, with many surprises and a wonderful romance, that could only happen in Scotland.
These are stand alone stories. I liked the beginning and how the h/H met when they were teenager's. As the story unfolds so does the secret they've each kept (no spoiler's).
The one thing that really bothered me was when they meet again after many years. She has been fighting for her life and doesn't come out unscathed. Out of no where he calls her a liar. The women has been unconscious for 2 days and this is what he accuses her of. Also, does the h ever find out the true meaning of the gift her father gave her?
There are more than one villain. Two of them I wanted to know how they were caught. The fight scenes were very engaging and so suspenseful.
The h is fierce and very smart. Does an amazing job in defending for herself. Loved her spirit!
There is lovemaking, within marriage, heat level 3 out of 5. Little on romance since they are apart for most of the story.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA and steam. Not repeating the blurb, just some highlights for you. (ljb)
I love reading Eliza Knight’s books about the Sutherland Family. This story is about Liam Sutherland who is the son of Magnus and Arabella Sutherland. Liam was named the best warrior in Scotland. He is now on a special mission for the king. This mission is to capture in Ughtred who is the husband of Ina Ross. The Ross Clan are traitors to Scotland. Ina Ross is in the dungeon at Stirling Castle. Cora Segrave was trying to send out a message for help. Her father was killed, her mother was in the dungeon and now she is hiding in a hidden room in her fathers study. The squire is stopped by Liam because he looked like he was frightened. Liam and his men were very close to the border. Now is when some of the secrets will be told. So many things start to happen. This is when the story should be read to learn about the big secret. I hope that whoever reads this book will enjoy it !!
When Liam Sutherland came upon an attack along the border, he had no other choice but to save a young lass from a horrible fate. After rescuing her, he left her in a nunnery for safekeeping but not before pledging himself to her. Now, he is the prized warrior for his clan and youngest son of the laird. He is also a man of his word. So, when a mysterious plea for help takes him back to her, Liam knows there is no more running from their fate. Cora Segrave, daughter of an English baron, owes her life to the Scot who saved her years ago. As her family home is destroyed, and they are taken prisoner, she knows she'll need him again. Liam and Cora were meant to be from the moment they met, but insecurities kept them apart. Now that they met again, nothing will keep them apart, for Liam knows she is his life and his heart. He only needs to prove it to her, to his clan, and his king. Easy right?
Sir Liam Sutherland has been sent by Robert the Bruce to capture a traitor and bring him to prison. The borderlands he must travel are ones he has passed by before, one time has always stayed in his mind. Lady Cora Segrave is hiding away in her father's castle. The enemy has invaded, killed her father and imprisoned her mother. She only has one hope, that the messenger she sent out can reach help. The border between Scotland and England is a very dangerous place. The politics of the time mean that unscrupulous men sometimes shift sides depending on what they can gain. There is history between our main characters that nobody except them knows about. A very exciting and action packed story full of danger, and political intrigue. Death comes very close many times. I loved it.
Liam Sutherland rescued Cora when he was just 15 and vowed his protection and his name to her. Now years later filled with responsibilities and guilt over not coming for her sooner. When a chance meeting leaves Liam with so many emotions coming back to him, he vows to make things right even if he now has doubts and not quite sure if he can trust Cora. This is such a wonderful story and I loved the characters. There is a lot to this story. At times I found myself wanting to throw something at Cora’s mother and shake Cora. I love it when a book does that! It was wonderful to watch Liam and Cora come to learn with each other about love and life. Definitely five stars and definitely recommend this book!
Faced with the death of her father, the imprisonment of her mother, Cora pens a note to the one man that will come to her rescue. After finding a young lad running across the land, Liam receives the note meant for him and his heart stops. Racing to her aid, he finds his love and the man he had been sent to locate and imprison for the King. Liam realizes that there are secrets-between he and Cora; and between Cora and her mother. As the story unfolds, the secrets are many and devastating, but to whom? Recovering from his wounds, Liam comes to the conclusion that he loves Cora and will never let her go. With that realization, he knows that he must uncover the traitor for her to be safe. This is a very fast paced book that will not only peak your interest, but keep it until the very end.
I adored this book!!! The hero was strong, a little conflicted but larger than life. The heroin was likeable not weak or obstinante. His honor was much to his credit and her strength to overcome was a major character trait. One of my favorite parts of this book, was that you could feel in the story the connection with the H/H and it plays out extremely well to Eliza Knight's credit in the steamy scenes. When she goes steamy, its always amazing and she does a wonderful job of building up the relationship or scenes to create the mood for such things. It is never just tossed in for good measure, it feels thought out and a natural progression for the couple. Another amazing win for Knight!!!
Liam and Cora met years ago, and have a shared secret. It’s quite by lucky accident they meet again. Liam and his clan of highland warriors save Lady Cora from certain death and take her, and her mother, with them to safety. Although Liam has feelings for Cora. he suspects that there are things he does not know, important things, that Cora may be hiding from him. Can he trust her? His future and that of his king may depend on it. This is a terrific story filled with intrigue as well as romance and a group of colorful characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to readers who enjoy historical romance with action, heat, and of course, a sexy highlander or two.
I absolutely loved Liam and Coras story. They married 13 years ago when he saved her. Never telling their families. She stayed with her parents and he went on to be one of Scotland’s most feared warriors. When her family was under attacked again she asked for Liams help. This time he was taking his wife to Scotland. When Liam rescues Cora this time he finds out the enemy he was seeking was the same one who just attacked Cora. With Octred as Liams prisoner he is bound for Sterling Castle with his wife. Know how is he going to tell his King and Sire that he has been married for 13 yrs. A beautifully written story with a wonderful ending.
Another fantastic read from Eliza Knight. I absolutely loved this book. I enjoyed how Cora was strong even though her mom made her weak. I loved how Liam was honorable and was willing to stand by his vow. The sexual tension was palpable and it was not over done, just the perfect amount to keep you satisfied. I absolutely love the Sutherland Series.
I have not been disappointed in any book by Eliza Knight! The stories grab you and you just want to keep reading until the end. Loved Cora and Liam's story. And really love The Sutherlands. I am going to miss this family after finishing the last book in the series. Enjoy!
A knight and his honor. Liam,as a young man saves Cora and promises to keep her safe. This s a well written story with believable characters you want to see what happens to them. I love when they bring the family into the story. A fun read
Loved everything about this book. Fell in love with the characters and storyline. So much drama and adventure. Liam and Cora were perfect, lovable and so full of passion when they finally meet again. Could not put this book down.
This is probably the best book of the series. Not sure why it took me so long to start reading it after purchasing it upon its release. What a great love story. Make you laugh and cry. Can wait for the next.
I love Liam from the other books in this series. I liked Cora and rooting for her the whole time. I liked their journey and chemistry. I love that we got to spend some time with Magnus and see him interact with his son. This is a really good series and the narrator does a great job.
