CUT THE COMPLEXITY OUT OF STRATEGIC PLANNING Alexander the Great conquered Phrygia in 333 BC by winning a challenge to undo the Gordian Knot. Rather than spending hours figuring out how to untie it, he drew his sword and sliced it in half, unraveling it instantly. That's the essence of the agile mindset in business. The combination of uncertainty and complexity make it unproductive, if not impossible, to chart the best course of action three to five years in advance. Yet that's exactly what traditional strategic planning demands. Strategic agility is knowing where you want to go while remaining open and flexible about how you get there. Start Less, Finish More shows you, step-by-step, how to spend less time planning and more time doing, iterating and adapting your strategic plan using OKRs - the goal setting method that built Silicon Valley.
This is a great easy to read overview of agile strategy and how it connects into OKRs. So many useful tips and reminders. As person who is read a lot of strategy books which can be deep and theoretical, this is a book I’d be happy to someone wanting to understand how to practically engage their team to move forward.
This started out sounding promising. Then it felt very academic, and was doing so the things the author was criticizing about other similar books: sounding like a textbook and having too many terms. The title is probably the best part of the book.
