At the café atop the hill, newcomer Hime looks up to her elegant coworker, Mitsuki, but their work partnership leaves much to be desired! Hime tries to maintain her perfect-girl façade, but after causing so many mishaps-- complete with spilled drinks and online rumors--Mitsuki finally sits her down for some real talk. Much to Hime's horror, it turns out that the two share a deep history, and this reality shakes Hime to her core. Now she can't seem to keep her head straight at work! Can she ever gain Mitsuki's trust...and is it all even worth it?
honestly this series is mid but not boring enough for me to stop yet. it's not actually bad just like boring to read but its a nice filler when i dont wanna read like an actual chapter wordy book. im ready for literally a single gay thing to happen like its literally called yuri. i like that the whole misunderstanding/backstabbing plot seems to be over with Hime and Ayanokouji. like her being upset about lying was overplayed by the end. i think the next book is going to be about kanoko's feelings for Hime coming out.
I liked this one! I kept crying because apparently I’m soft for miscommunication and obliviousness re: feelings. Things are about to happen with Kanoko’s interest in Hime tho!
I thought I’ll give this series one more chance, as I’ve heard that there was the backstory here and I was kinda curious on how they met. I really must say, I love young Yano! She’s the best. Hime isn’t any different from her present-self – just as annoying and fake as ever. And that victim trope is making me throw up.
Can’t believe Yano is always made as the villain by everyone, even though Hime is the jerk. 💀 Just shows how messed up society is.
Just like volume 1: gorgeous art, shitty story and characters. Protagonist, mostly; the other characters are okay... Well, not entirely. I like Yano, and Konoko is okay. The manager is annoying but doesn’t have that much screen-time, so it’s fine. Tachibana however has been getting on my nerves in the 1st volume already, because she keeps slacking off and reading books. Why is that allowed even?! Now it’s just getting worse. Going through someone else’s phone, without them knowing? Seriously?!
I’m not gonna continue this series. I gave it a chance and got disappointed. It’s very obvious now that Hime and Yano will end up together, even though it’s a very toxic relationship. Plus, Yano deserves better.
Why are unhealthy relationships so prevalent in yuri? *looks at Japan accusingly* I enjoyed the first volume more than this follow-up, which seemed to go on and on without much occurring. It wasn't terrible, but I think I'll try a different series.
This volume starts by learning the back story between Yano and Hime; they once were close but grew apart. Now that it's revealed, the dynamic between them changes.
Hime has stayed the same from childhood to the present, like seeing how they were as a child and what happened to them. Yano is adorable, and I love her. I don't like how Yano is considered the villain when Hime is the one who lies and strung her along. Her being angry all these years is justified, even if it seems sparked by seeing Hime. Speaking of characters, I dislike Tachibana. All she does is sneak off to read and not add much to the plot; besides looking through Kanoko's phone, she'll probably add conflict in the next volume.
I did like that there was character development and relationship building compared to the last volume. I still don't like Hime, but I liked how it appeared Hime enjoyed Yano in the beginning. I can at least understand that miscommunication caused things (even if I hated how Yano was the villain when she was the one lied to and seemingly abandoned). The art is still gorgeous, as always.
Overall, it is an improvement from the last volume. At this stage, I'm not too fond of the romance that'll happen. Because Hime always lies, it's hard to tell when she truly means that she likes Yano because she genuinely does or if it's because then that means everyone will like Hime. If Hime develops and changes, I can see this working. For now? This isn't a favorite relationship I have read so far. This still gets 3 stars out of 5. I'll reluctantly continue.
This is a big improvement over volume 1, even if it's a bit shaky. We get a lot of relationship building between Hime and her Schwestern. Their childhoods, what motivates them, and also how Hime acts around people she truly considers to be friends. A bit of failure in communication always leads to some drama, and as much as I think the story in this volume was better I really don't like these sorts of plots. Yes, it's more character-driven and concise and finally gives some depth to our one-note characters but... I just don't like those 'ooooops someone heard something they weren't supposed to, oh nooooo, they took it out of context, ahhhhhh' stories.
Backstory!!! Character development!!! I thought the first volume was cute, but thought it was an odd decision to have the main character be a self centered & selfish person. Sure those characters are frequently in stories but are rarely if ever your main protagonist.
This volume Hime totally won me over as this whole story in general did. Big improvement from the inaugural volume.
Secrets are revealed and we get to see more development in Hime and Mitsuki’s characters. What happens to those that become involved with liars? How can you tell when they’re telling the truth? Volume 2 gives us a better pacing and lets us get to see the defining moments of the girls’ relationship. Definitely a good read for people that love yuri and a pseudo-school setting.
This volume kicks off trying to build up some backstory of Hime & Yano in gradeschool. Spoiler alert - the central idiot was slightly better at reading the room back then? Still as completely self-centered but at least she seemed to have 2 braincells knocking together ....and immediately pops right back to the cafe, and her acting a dumbass just as overly fixated on the narrative in her head and not reality. Continuing the behave exactly same etc etc etc
What a huge step up from Volume 1! It has structural issues and the pacing was a still a bit slow, but Hime and Yano finally resolve their issues. I enjoy their dynamic a lot more now that there's no drama between them. Hopefully, it stays that way and there's no more miscommunication. The ending was pretty wild and scary. I hope they handle issues of stalking carefully.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This volume cleared up some of the mysteries from volume 1, hence my better score. I still see Hime as one of the most detestable protagonists in manga. Someone must like this series; I see that there are 11 volumes available in English. I don't plan to read past volume 4 (which is the last one I have).
I'm loving this series! It is just so interesting and intriguing. It touches on many themes that kids, teens and adult readers will relate to: bullying, self-esteem, identity issues...as the story progressed, I wanted to read more about the characters. Can't wait to read the next volume!
The first volume wasn’t anything ground breaking. This volume definitely helped. We saw some Yano and Hime back ground that was much needed to understand these ladies better. The cliff hanger at the end was superb.
