As acquisitions editor for Fire & Ice YA Books, I read this book prior to publication. I am also the cover artist. The following review contains my own thoughts and opinions.

The second fairy retelling in E.L. Tenenbaum's End of Ever After series tells the tale of the miller's daughter and the lie that resulted in a deal with Rumpelstiltskin.

Like End of Ever After, this book starts exactly as you'd expect - except with a twist, Millie's best friend is none other than the wizard Merlin. Growing

The faerytales continue in this Rumpelstiltskin retelling!
Keep an eye out for one of the most famous mages ever as he guest stars here as a young wizard still finding his way in the world of magic!

Well then. That only took 2 library renewals (with a few weeks wait in between because borrowing ebooks is like that) and a lot of sighs and eye rolls to get through. At least with this one, the not-in-the-least-bit-subtle foreshadowing was less. Only slightly less, but still an improvement. Lies of Golden Straw is the second in the fairy tale re-tellings, and it is very different, but just as amazing as End of Ever After (book one). This one is a Rumplestiltskin re-telling, but you get so much more. Merlin is in here, plus a couple of famous storytellers themselves, who I won't name. Trust me when I say they all fit perfectly in this story.

Told from the perspective of Millie, you find out about her childhood as the Miller's Daughter, right through to the present when she goes to El

This is a fair Rumplestilskin retelling and was most enjoyable. Tenebaum places a lot of emphasis on truth and lies, but I didn't find the ending really resolved the issue which was a little disappointing.

I enjoyed the attention to detail and how this fairy tale was brought to life. Millie/Emalyn made for a believable main character and the way she allows herself to be pulled into the plot was well done.

I did not enjoy the final third of the book which is a compilation of every fairy tale out th

Not everyone is who they seem or make the right choices. Not every happily ever after is as happy ever after as it could have been. This is a retelling of Rumpelstilskin where everyone is more complex than most fairytales would have you believe.

I absolutely loved this book. It's part of a series. The second is the best, third second best, and first was just okay. The first doesn't hold too much in relation to the latter. They all feel so different, and this one was so soft and sweet. ...more

Fairy tales brought to the adult world

What an amazing way of spinning a child’s tale into a novel for adults. An interesting take on Rumolestiltskin that never bores. Fun read!
