I haven't read the novels so I can't compare the manga to them, but I was really disappointed that the manga starts off with the main character already having been teleported into his video game without showing how that even happened. The manga also focuses quite a bit on rape. The main character finds himself turning into his video game character, with all his powers, and decides to become a mercenary to earn money in his new world. He doesn't seem to believe he's inside his video game, though... He seems surprised when he comes upon other creatures and races (like elves) from the game, which didn't make a lot of sense to me. Anyway, as a mercenary he goes around rescuing women from being raped, children from being eaten by monsters, and elves from enslavement.

It was really kind of basic but it had its charms. The art is very, very pretty. As far as the getting-sucked-into-a-video-game trope goes, this is not one of the best examples I've seen... But I love the elves and personally don't mind playing in god-mode. lol So it didn't bother me too much that he has every skill he's ever used for any class in his game, even if he's currently a paladin, or that he can one-shot-kill all his enemies. His little spirit animal familiar creature is cute. The main plot is going to be about elves, I think, so I'm in!

Not necessarily deep enough to become a top series for me. But if I can get my hands on some of them on BO than I might continue it for a while. Easy, fun and entertaining story with lot of video game reference, good action, could have been more violent, but wanting to stay in the teen department they probably had to keep it light. Way more entertaining than I though or expected it to be!

Eeek. There's a lot to like about this book, but I don't think I can get past all the sexual violence.

The plot is the trendy 'in another world' trope, in the also trendy video game subset. The main character, Arc, is a genuinely good guy, and he ends up with a cute animal sidekick, which is also neat. Some of the stories I really liked, but I almost didn't get past the first real page of the manga.

BECAUSE THEY DECIDED TO START THE MANGA ON THE ATTEMPTED RAPES OF TWO YOUNG WOMEN.

Yes, I know rape, attempted rape, and sexual violence are all things that happen, but it's not something I like in manga generally, especially not a manga with an overall light tone. And not drawn in such a creepy sexual way. There's so many panels of it; it's gratuitous! We don't need someone trying to rape someone to know that they're evil! Later on, there's even creepy sexual stuff when it comes to CHILDREN!!! At least those villains aren't going to outright rape children, thank God, but they do cut away some clothes and make comments, and yes, the children are drawn in some sexualized poses.

Cue vomiting.

I don't know how no one else has brought this up, honestly.

Final verdict? Thought there is a lot that I genuinely enjoyed in this book, all the sexual violence really turned my stomach. I can't recommend this, and I doubt I'll read another volume, unless someone I know does and says it's free of sexual violence.

This story was a bit of a fun ride though I imagine the manga probably doesn't do the light novel justice in certain aspects such as when they explain the main character Arc can use the abilities of all the classes he took before becoming his present class and since I haven't read the light novels I had to look it up online so I am not sure if this is accurate or not. In the manga Arc is a paladin but under job descriptions they had Paladin as a class he had to take to become a paladin...which is a pretty weird error right out of the gate but it seems that his class is actually a Heavenly Knight and he was a Holy Knight to get there so I am going to say this was lazy translations from a smaller company.

Another thing I worried about was the fact they started the manga with the beginning of a rape scene before they even introduce the hero of the story from the perspective of the first people Arc saves as he adjusts to this new world. With such a dark subject right out the gate it may make teh hero shine all the brighter in comparison but it can also requires a fair amount of tension breaking to keep the story from reaching Goblin Slayer levels of dark. Luckily being much more powerful than Goblin Slayer Arc is much more effective at stopping baddies from getting their way when he steps up so no virgins are defiled though their are plenty of less scrupulous human males willing to harm innocents to get their ways.

Arc in the mean time might be a bit overpowered like knight version of Ainz from Overlord but his personality is kind and he is very good at helping those that need it making the story less dark than the before mentioned series such as Goblin Slayer and Overlord and I am hoping that regardless of the similarities to both of them that Arc continues to be a beacon to keep the story from being too dark.

I gave this series 6 volumes worth of my time in the hopes that it would get better. It's not worth reading.

The Skeleton Knight and his adorable little fox pet is top tier gap moe. The rest of this 'experience' is awful. The very first page of this book depicts rape, which is unfortunately quite typical for fantasy manga. The author then decides that isn't enough and makes the main plot revolve around a trafficking ring... wanton sexual abuse throughout.

The author establishes that the Skeleton Knight is a complete novice and relies solely on the power of the skills he has. The elven woman's mother was able to beat him without issue, even after using instant teleportation magic that no one in this world has ever seen before. The author could've at least said he has experience in Kendo or SOMETHING... This dude sucks so bad that it's a genuine miracle he was able to fight against the Dragon Lord and live. Makes no sense.

Avis :

Similar themes as quite a few manga. Human transported into another world that has video game-esque rules. Gets involved in the conflict of said world. Thus the journey begins.
~
The difference here, is that the MC isn’t bewildered or confused by this. He accepts it. Just rolls with it. It provides some humor too that he is stuck in a skin he had put on his character.
~
I’m a sucker for cute side characters/animals and Ponta, the spirit fox is ADORABLE. I would protect him at all costs.
~
While this start is familiar, I’d like to see where this one goes with its story. There is clearly a class/race situation with elves being considered second-class citizens but I want to see what happens with this super self-aware MC. And Ponta. Always Ponta.

I'm a huge fan of the anime! It's my comfort anime and it just makes me feel good and everything is so wholesome.

I went in knowing that some things would be changed from the anime, as that's just how it's done. Different things are emphasized, different scenes occur at different times.

That being said, I still very much enjoyed everything that happened and it made me happy to see some of my favorite characters.

I will definitely read more of the managas and will also venture into the light novels that the mangas were based on.

Imagine waking up in a new world, but you are not you, you are your avatar in your favorite video game. However, you didn’t wake up in the world of your game, just as your character. That is the premise of Skeleton Knight. The Knight has to learn this new world and what powers from his game he can actually use in this new world. This book was full of fantasy and adventure and I can not wait to get to the rest of the series. This book also comes as a light novel.

Great art, missing story

Having read the first two volumes of the light novel, I can't help but notice the gaps in the story presented here but that being said the artwork is splendid, I only wish they showed a little more of the violence depicted in the novel.

Still I recommend you pick this up and read it.

The art is fantastic. It was really easy to follow what was going on. The world the story takes place in is cruel and you'll see it right away. If you ever enjoyed playing an MMORPG, you'll appreciate this volume.

A gamer wakes up in another world fully powered up but in a skeleton body

This was ok but not good enough for me to seek out the next volume.

It’s moving very fast, and of course Arc is massively OP as per the usual isekai trope. The artwork is cute, but I think the action panels are messy and hard to figure out what happened.

Isekai series are like junk food, they often don't have much in the way of depth, but I keep coming back to them because they tend to mostly be upbeat or fun in a fantasy setting and their frequently shonen nature means sexual tension and kissing scenes are unlikely as long as I can tolerate the female characterizations being waifu gachas.

In this case, the lead wakes up as his MMO character who is a skeleton and is OP. It's not similar to Overlord beyond that in neither tone nor story. He sets out adventuring, saving damsels and unraveling a conspiracy of corrupt government activity.

The story is interesting and Ponta is absolutely adorable but, the fan service is just a little too obvious and much for my taste.
