Lots of sass and the patented cock of her eyebrow have gotten Kyndel through most anything life has thrown at her. But will her moxie help when her destiny falls at her feet on a long dark trip home from work?
Over 100 years of honor and commitment to his ancient clan’s Guard have made Rayne the fearless leader all are proud to follow into battle. The Universe made her for him now it’s up to them to stay alive long enough to live happily ever after.
Mom of two rockin' girls, Reader of everything, Author of The Dragon Guards series and many more surprises to come!
I am a sarcastic, sometimes foul-mouthed, not afraid to drink a beer, always southern woman with 2 of the most amazing teenage daughters, a menagerie of animals and a voracious appetite for reading who recently decided to write the storied running through her brain. I read my first book, Dr Suess' Cat in The Hat by myself at 4 and was hooked. I believe a good book along with shoes, makeup and purses will never let a girl down and that all heroes of all the books I have ever read or will ever write pale in comparison to my daddy! I am a sucker for a happy ending and love some hot sweaty sex with a healthy dose of romance. I am still working on my story but believe it will contain all of the above with as much SPICE as I can work into it. CHEERS!
The writing here is simply ridiculous. The guy has "erotically calloused fingers", his gaze reached into her and massaged her soul (!!!!), then he can see into her soul and he accepts everything in it, good and bad, all that after them knowing each other for about 5 minutes, 4 of which he was unconscious on the sidewalk. He's actually still lying on that sidewalk with a concussion when she thinks this. Her next brilliant idea is to take this stranger (which she's known for maybe 8 minutes now) to her apartment so he could get a nap (and probably some sex, I'm guessing). ... ... My brain can't take more of that. Bye bye dragon guard.
I give up. I just can't take anymore. I'm not one that easily gives up on a book. But this one...man, this one is a total bust for me. I often don't rate books I don't finish, but since I'm quitting this because I'm so not enjoying it, I'm rating it too.
First off, it's almost entirely tell, with almost no show. Of that tell, I'm estimating at least 80% is either internal monologues or narrative info drops. Not fun. Plus, those bulky drops often show up in the middle of what little outside-someone's-head action there is, shattering any tension that might have a chance to build.
There has thus far been no character development or world-building. Rayne drops out of the sky and saves Kyndel from an attempted rape. (Of course he did, sexual victimisation is the cheapest way to imperil a heroine, so why not? Doesn't matter that it's totally random and not relevant to anything else in the book.) The H and h lay eyes on one another and BAM lust/love. No need to, you know, exchange even ten words because the Universe made her just for him.
This is an insult to woman! I do not exist solely for the benefit of my husband. Nor do I want to be told (repeatedly) that the heroine in a book was literally created for a man, as if she has no worth or place outside of him or, you know, on her own. Gag!
She takes him home to tend his wounds, they each live in their heads some more, then he starts having sex with her while she still asleep. That means no delicious build-up, but more importantly, hello, there is no consent there, that's assault! When she wakes up, she's still only a passive participant. Everything is done to her. She doesn't actually take any action or show any agency. She is simply the static representation of a woman that the man gets off and gets off on.
Plus, the sex is NOT SEXY. Her juices were constantly flowing, flowing, flowing and gushing and joining them together and all I could think was, 'Someone get the poor woman a Kotex or something.' On top of that, he kept pressing, pinching and biting her clitoras. The clitoras has something like 8,000 nerve endings. Pressing it like a doorbell or pinching it like a schoolyard bully just sounds painful...and if you bite that sucker, you're likely to find a woman's foot knocking your teeth in. Not sexy! Plus, she was supposed to have had so many orgasims I seriously envisioned her in seizures.
In the end, I just couldn't take anymore in-the-head monologues about either character's history or cheesy dialogue. Especially since the book is PAINFULLY REPETITIVE. The reader is told the same things over and over and over and over again, so it's highly likely that the next dozen or so internal monologues would just be more and more and more of the EXACT SAME THING we'd already been told anyway.
I have the rest of this series. They were all free at the same time. But I'm pretty sure I'm never going to read them.
I absolutely loved this book. Aside from being a little repetitive in the beginning, I don't have one bad thing to say about it. Julia Mills simply took my imagination to a whole nother level and for that, I thank her. "Her Dragon to Slay" is a beautiful interspecies love story that has a hint of Comedy and innocence to it. I thought it was very cute and romantic. It is a story about a curvy woman with trust and insecurity issues being swept off of her feet by a big gorgeous goofball with a big secret to share with her. This story is really unlike anything that I have personally read and I must say that it has opened my eyes to a whole new realm of reading. Kudos to Julia Mills and I am very impatiently waiting for the next book in this series to come out.
The ARC was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Holy Mother of All Things Hot!!! I loved this book. Truly loved it. Rayne is the personification of Beautiful!! His heart, his mind, and his soul are as beautiful as his physical body. He loves Kendyl with everything he is. She was created just for him, and he knows it. I love Kendyl; she has a heart of gold and just enough vanity to make her interesting without being whiny. The story contains some smoking hot love scenes, but has a lot of story too. I just love books like that!! I like all the dragons in the Guard, and hope they each get to tell their own story. This debut novel by Julia Lake Mills was fascinating, beautiful, engaging, and worth every single second of my time. I highly recommend it to all PNR junkies!! Thank you Julia, for allowing me into your amazing world of dragons!! 5 Stars!!
Her Dragon To Slay was a fantastical, romance novel all about dragons.
Warning: Spoilers ahead! Be warned.
I found this book free on Amazon, so I figured - why not? I loved Katie MacAlister's dragon series, and I wanted to fill my shelf with a few more books about dragons, so this seemed like the perfect fit! And, indeed it was! This book was fun, delightful and full of ooey, gooey romance.
It's definitely your "typical" fantasy romance - they fall in love fast, there's some really hot sex scenes and there's some fantasy and action mixed in as well.
Julia Mills does a great job weaving the dragon half of the story with the romance side. I loved the mythology Julia created for this world, and I would like to see more of it in the future. It can seem a little cheesey if you're expecting an Oscar worthy styled novel, but to me it was fun and entertaining. It kept me interested to the point I devoured it in one sitting.
There are also many funny and comedic moments mixed in. This is not a serious fantasy novel, it's lighthearted and fun.
So, you may be asking at this point - what's the cons? 1. Character development is low (but it's a book that's less than 200 pages and involves a lot more romance involved) 2. Repetitive. Yeah, this book is a little repetitive. If you're just reading it for a fun ride, it's cool. It didn't bug me because I wanted an escape from reality, but to some people this might be a major no-no. 3. Potential rape?... Rayne gets a little to sexual with a sleeping Kyndel, and we're not to sure if she actually "wanted" it despite her body behaving... But later she's madly in love with him in about two seconds, so it could be warranted? I don't even know. That part left me feeling really icky reading it. It just didn't seem right. 4. Male oriented story. This one kind of bugged me, and looking at other reviewers it bugged them too. The woman exists for the man in this story, and it definitely fills some fantasies for some people but in today's culture it doesn't sit perfectly. This can be a con or a pro, depending on how you want to look at the story.
Overall, this book was delightful. It had me whisked away to another world and not worrying about reality. It'd be a great book to read if you love romance, dragons or a sexy read.
Usually I only read about the "normal" shifters, but this book looked interesting. I'm not normally into any books that have to do with dragons. This book completely captivated me and I loved it. I love the love story between Rayne and Kyndel. Can't wait for the next one. I loved Kyndel's sass and her attitude and how she seemed to keep Rayne in his place.
Favorite Lines “No matter how humble, there’s no place like home,”
“The one female in the entire world created just for him. She is the other half of his soul, the completion of the man and his beast. She provides them with peace, love and light. She grounds them, makes them whole. She is the single most important person to both entities in this world and the next”
“The Universe is all knowing and all powerful. She knows what each person needs and She creates their perfect compliment in the form of their mate. She has no regard for species or location, only that every dragon shifter, be they Guard or not, have that one person that truly completes them. She makes no mistakes.”
“These bells will always be ringing.”
What a fabulous debut book for this talented author! I mean who doesn't love big sexy alpha DRAGONS! Yummy! Rayne is a Dragon Warrior who has found his mate, they met under less than normal circumstances but, he will not let her go and neither will his dragon! Kyndel can't believe this gorgeous man literally was dropped right at her feat. She never opens her heart, kind, or home to anyone but, Rayne literally makes her feel safe and more cherished than she has in all her life. She's doesn't know why but, she's decided to live for once. She's a woman that doesn't take any crap, she's a "spitfire" and I loved reading about her. He tells her the most amazing things but before she can even think on them they are running from crazy hunters. Along the way she falls for the dragon but will hose hunters stop her from getting her happily ever after? Ha you gotta read it find out!!! It's a great story, with hot dragons, realistic woman, and oh my so YUMMINESS! This author has no problem opening the doorway to her world! I look forward to returning soon! The details, the way she describes ever part of this book makes it so easy to close your eyes and see those beautiful dragons, the world they are in, and the hotness of those warriors!
I was given this book by author in exchange for an honest review
First I have to say, beautiful cover! Secondly, The detailed description of the large cast of characters really made me " see" and know each of them. Kyndel is a breath of fresh air as a strong woman in her own right. She is not some tall, slinky blonde. She has curves and always felt a little over weight. She has freckles and reddish hair with emerald green eyes. She cares about the people around her and is quick to help those in need. The only thing she is afraid of is walking alone in the dark, which is exactly how she meets Rayne Masterson. He quite literally crashes into her life on her walk home from work in the dark. It's all about the universe and destiny from there. Ryan commands the elite Dragon Guard of the Golden Fire Clan, Royce, Devon, , Lance (such a joker) Aiden and his twin Aaron. They are all Shifters. They are being hunted and are at war, but that doesn't stop Rayne from claiming Kyndel as his one perfect mate and together with his brothers in arms face the many challenges that are coming. This is a steamy romance of two mates finding each other, a story of the unconditional loyalty of brotherhood and all the laughter, games and fun they have together. This is also a story of unimaginable loss and betrayal, and let me just say...I never saw that coming. I have got to read the next installment to see what happens, plus it looks like another mateing is on the horizon for one of our beloved Dragon Guards. This book was a gift, but more like the gift of another Brilliant Author! Thank you Julia Mills.....Rock On!
I loved Rayne he makes the cutest sounds when he's knocked out cold, "she paused. did he just growl? She asked herself. Well, not really growl, more like a purr, a sound of contentment." And the way he talks really gets your panties wet ladies, "hold on for me, baby. I have to taste you. Ok?" And he puts her safety before anything else, "we will finish what we've started, of that you can be sure, but now we must meet my brethren and get you to safety." Kyndel that little spitfire doesn't put up with Rayne's crap, "don't you 'Mate' me Rayne MacLendon. I can shake hands with anybody I want to. I will not be rude and the way your acting is pi**ing me off." He's a great mate as well, he thinks about things, "Rayne immediately felt horrible, how had he not thought of feeding her? All he had been able to think about was getting between her thighs. What a sh**ty mate he was turning out to me, didn't even think about making sure the single most important person in his life was nourished. Well, that was never going to happen again. He would see to all her needs." I can't wait to read about the other guys's stories.
Kyndel and Rayne prove to be a smoking hot couple in Her Dragon to Slay. The author, Julia Mills, has successfully created characters that were easy and fun to follow. It's the authors character development teamed with her book concept that ensured that this book was a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining read.
As a crazy, huge fan of shifter books, it was lovely and refreshing to be faced with dragon shifters. Rayne was most definitely a sexy alpha that I enjoyed ogling, while Kyndel was a strong female lead.
The author builds in enough back story to establish a firm setting for this new series and introduces secondary characters that will no doubt take the lead in future instalments. The book opens with a good love of tension and quickly turns to palpable heat. These two aspects are common themes through the book that the author maintains and establishes with success.
An impressive first instalment to a series that I will happily follow.
Reviewer: Bex Disclosure: This book was provided by the author in exchange for an HONEST and not necessarily positive review.
I enjoyed this first book by new author Julia Mills quite a bit. The reader gets an excellent visual concept of Rayne, Kyndel and the dragons from their size to the brilliant colors. I saw them flying through the sky, I saw them change. I love that Kyndel is no shrinking violet and has a lot of sass and cockiness to help her deal with all the wild things she is told. I can see her cocking one of her eyebrows and delivering a line or asking a question. I think I fell in love with Rayne as soon as he gained consciousness. To find that perfect love and have someone worship you like he does........Holy Wow! I think the Dragon Guards are here to stay.
I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review.
***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
I'm a sucker for stories of fated love. You know the kind. Love so strong and so perfect that the two who are involved cannot bear to be apart from one another. Her Dragon to Slay is a tale of a dragon warrior, Rayne, who finally, after years spent wondering whether she existed at all, meets his mate.
Kyndel is Rayne's mate. she's a human whose life has been nothing special up until this point. She works a job she doesn't love, has no family left, and has only one really good friend, Grace. She has a rather chatty inner voice that doesn't like to leave her along and she gives this voice names like Catty Kyndel and Bitchy Kyndel. As she's walking home from work one night after loaning Grace her car (and her cell phone), she finds Rayne, bleeding and severely injured, outside of a park. He got himself into this state because his dragon sensed that his mate was in danger. A rapist was hiding in the park, trying to lure unsuspecting women. This rapist wasn't targeting Kyndall specifically, but that put her in no less danger.
Rayne's dragon recognized the danger, compelled him to save her, and then put him smack dab in the middle of a bunch of hunters (the enemies of his kind) who were trying to hurt him and would stop at nothing to get at the woman who means more to him than his own life. Well, Rayne can't just let this sort of offense go unanswered, so he kills the rapist, the hunters, and in the killing, ends up seriously injured himself. He manages to get himself to a point where he's on the sidewalk close enough to reach Kyndel and he grabs on to her with his last remaining reserves of strength.
From there, things progress much like you'd expect. Don't get me wrong. This is a good book. It's a quick, fun read. The sex is incredibly hot and well done. Rayne's feelings are the stuff of female fantasies and Kyndel, both intelligent and responsible, responds like one who has suddenly discovered her other half.
I enjoyed this tale thoroughly, but truth be told, I did want a little more. Despite the fact that Rayne and Kyndel are fated to love each other, I expected Kyndel to resist just a touch more, or at least ask more questions. That said, from the first ten pages, we know they're fated, so this is a forgivable offense. At one point I wanted Kyndel to display a little more initiative, backbone, or just plain street smarts. I felt like the author intended her to be so much more, but then Rayne took over and did his alpha male dragon thing and that was it. Granted, that's his way, but I had hoped Kyndel would be just a little stronger.
There were a few editing issues that could be addressed (missing periods, a word here or there), but overall, it was well written and well crafted. Rayne and Kyndel's story ends well, which I'd say is a requirement in this type of story, and we get a glimpse of where the next book in the series will be taking us at the end.
My only serious complaint was that the author seemed to want to ram home the fact that they were fated and that each was perfect for the other. These facts were repeated many many times over the course of the book. Every few pages Rayne would have an internal dialog about how Kyndel was his most perfect mate and the one the Universe crafted for him. It was as if this was the refrain running through his head for days. And perhaps it was. But I felt as if we knew this early on and maybe he could have another thought or two.
That said, if you want a quick read with hot sex, a strong alpha male who shifts into a magnificent dragon, and a band of loyal and courageous brothers that you just know will each have their own story, this is the book for you.

Kyndel Masterson dislikes walking in the dark, but finds herself doing so when caught without her car. The BBW tries to distract herself with an inner diatribe with near disastrous consequences. Rayne MacLendon wrestles with his dragon's insistence to fly into the heavily populated city risking discovery by the humans they've covertly protected for centuries. The elusive scent of a long-awaited mate also distracts the Dragon Guard commander, and while Rayne stops the human intent on killing her, he's badly wounded by the hunters tracking him. The fated couple's meeting was no sweet meet in the park.
Rayne stopped the imminent threat by his enemies who would kill his mate without hesitation in their never-ending efforts to eliminate the Dragon Guards' existence. But more hunters were on the way, Rayne needed hours of healing sleep to recover his full strength, and he had to convince his unaware mate to let him take refuge in her home while his brother Guards rushed to hide the bloody battle remnants from the humans.
Oddly drawn to the handsome man and against her better judgment, Kyndel takes Rayne to her home. His hands have an eerily electrical almost uncomfortable feel. Even while he was unconscious, each touch while treating his cuts and wounds furthers her attraction.
Upon awakening, Rayne can't take the precious time to slowly woo his mate into the knowledge of their future together. To protect her, he and the guards sweep her along in their race to stop the hunters' latest deadly efforts. A simple meal saddens him over the rush. Offered a plate of food, Kyndel told one of the guards she hadn't realized how hungry she was until she smelled it. How had he not thought of feeding her?
I saw this excerpt on a website: After they were seated, he lifted a piece of meat to her lips. He would make sure she got her fill, whatever it took. She would never be hungry as long as he drew breath. Kyndel tried to take the meat from his fingers, but he quickly moved his hand.
She moved her head back, "Rayne, I'm capable of feeding myself."
He let out a long suffering sigh..."It's my responsibility to take care of you, to make sure you have everything you want and need. ...I can command men and fight hordes of hunters, but the first time I'm supposed to care for my mate, I let her go hungry..."
I sighed...and fell in love with a new author. But that's not a full picture of their beautiful relationship. They have their battles of will, and the sassy redhead earns her Guard nickname while giving them hope at finding their own fated mates. The scene with the iron skillet is priceless.
Julia Mills does a wonderful job at building a world filled with dragon protectors with great visualization. She deftly weaves touches of humor and plenty of passion throughout the action-packed romance. Her strong secondary characters and the perfect epilogue let readers know there are more couples to meet who "live long, fight hard, and love harder".
I recently discovered Julia Mills was a new author and had her first book out for sale on FB. I immediately went to Amazon and purchased. Not usually a reader of Dragon shifters I still wanted to give this read a try. I was so not disappointed I loved this book.
When the story opens we have Kyndel Masterson a strong willed, independent, and no nonsense type female, having to walk home from work because she lent her roommate her car. You see Kyndel has a very hard time telling Grace NO. During the walk home we learn a lot about Kyndel as she has an internal debate/conversation with herself. You see she’s deathly afraid of the dark.
Kyndel is what you might call a healer. If someone is hurt or in trouble she feels the need to help them. So during her walk home she thinks she hears a thud, like something soft hitting something hard and unyielding. Fear rises and she tells herself it’s her imagination. But when she hears it again she freezes in her tracks having an internal debate whether to go into the park and assist or keep walking and phoning for help. When she decides to keep walking and phone for help the next thing she knows she’s tripping and getting ready to face plant on the sidewalk, bracing for the impact that never happens she feels someone holding her around her waist. Then she’s twisting and falling again but right on top of a hot gorgeous man who was knocked out cold.
Rayne MacLendon is the Dragon Guard Commander of the Golden Fire Clan. His dragon has been warring with him for several weeks to go to the city so finally this night Rayne decided to give in to his beast and it was a good thing he did. You see he’s been dreaming about his mate, and knew her scent so when he caught her scent and saw someone in the shadows waiting to attack her he quickly dove from the sky turned back into his human form and launched himself onto the back of her would be attacker snapping his neck. After dragging the body into the shadows so his team could come do the cleanup he was so awestruck at finding his mate and protecting her, he did not follow his training and the protocol of the Dragon Guard to scent out the area or open his senses to any other danger he was now caught in a trap. Stuck by a silver headed arrow of the Hunters. Rayne fought with everything he had to keep the attention off of his mate and keep her safe. Enough said you really need to read this story.
I will tell you there are 5 other delicious dragon’s in this story. You’ll meet Royce, Devon, Lance the joker, Aiden and is twin Aaron. There is also a huge twist that I didn’t see coming involving Aiden. Now my big Question to Julia OMG is Grace Aiden’s mate? Will this be the next book? And someone needs to take Andrew down. Julia Mills I give your first book 5* and kudos to you.

REVIEW In this book we have Kyndel she is a strong woman made that way by her grandmother after the death of her parents. After losing her grandmother Kyndel never forgot her grandmothers words and has lived by them. While walking home from the gym through a park one evening Kyndel knows someone is hurt she doesn’t see anyone at first however. Then out of no where a gorgeous man with the bluest eyes she has ever seen lands on the ground. He is severely hurt and Kynel can’t walk away. Something is pulling her to this man causing her to throw all caution aside. She takes him back to her place and puts healing herbs on his back. The tattoo on his back is like calling to her. The man wakes the next day and has now told her everything about him. Kyndel doesn’t know what to believe but her faith and inner self says she can trust this man. Rayne is the leader of the Dragon Guard and he lets Kyndel know the person he fought was actually after her.
Many things transpire and someone who the Dragons thought was one of them well lets just say it’s a shocker. Read the book !!!
This book is well written, and If you are a Dragon shifter lover like myself then you are going to love this book. Totally recommend it !!!!
What would you do if you had an gorgeous injured stranger in front of you that insisted you take him home instead of the hospital?
That's what Kyndel was faced with when she was walking home one night. Groans and shadows played tricks on her mind causing to quicken her pace home while cursing a friend for taking her car. Of course trying to jog in heels is not the best and before her face hit the ground a pair of strong arms held her by the waist and twisted their bodies so that she now laid on her savior.
Thankful and a little shocked she quickly realized her savior was injured but instead of heading to a hospital he kept insisting for her not to. Not knowing why she went along with his plea. A plea that will lead to truths about the stranger, Kyndel and their fate.
There are some steamy scenes and the fact that Kyndel is not your everyday perfect gal made this story even better. A delightful and intriguing read from Julia Mills and I can't wait for book two!
Her dragon to slay Julia Mills is a new author to me. As soon as I heard the title it peaked my interest, I love shifter books of all kinds and a good dragon shifter story is the best. When I started the book at first I was thinking it was repetitive BUT that was just a nano second then the book exploded . Her detail of each character as human and their dragon make them come to life. Kyndel is a strong, kind, and witty woman, and Rayne is a leader that shows he cares about his clan and his duties as commander in the dragon guard Julia Mills has constructed the perfect mates with theses two . The thing that makes me so thrilled with the book is by her details of ALL the guard , I kept thinking as I read this book was I want to know more about them . even the healer named Siobhan drew me in. This book is a must read if you like shifter books , and I look so look forward to her next book
Since 1800 a dragon had been wondering the world protecting his clan from the threats of numerous enemies. Dragons are merged with virtuous warriors and passed through the male bloodlines so the last of their people may be always protected; Rayne MacLendon is one of these dragon shifters. A great warrior in his own right he lives to protect his clan and has done so the last 119 years with the powerful red dragon inside him. But lately the dragon has wanted to control to seek something and Rayne cannot figure out what it is until one night his dragon roars free to claim what the Universe had gifted them for their long years of service- their mate. Left as a orphan as a small child to be raised by her healer Grandmother Kendyl had always felt different from the kids at school and to the time to absorb all the knowledge her grandma had to offer about healing and herbs instead. Having only one friend in the world, Kendyl excelled at keeping to herself and committing herself to her own garden. There are no such things as coincidence as fate will not be ignored and places Kendyl where it needs her so an incredibly beautiful and strong dragon commander can find the peace only she can offer him. This begins the magical journey for a wounded warrior and a lovely human alone in the world to find their chance at peace and love even with enemies threatening to destroy that love at every turn. Fate will not be ignored; their passion cannot be tamed but are they strong enough to stand against an ancient betrayal?
I loved this book and was drawn in from the first page. Rayne is a beautiful soul and the love he holds for his mate is etched in his every action. Kendyl has her own strength and fire that makes her a hero in her own right and not a damsel in distress. The sparks between alpha male and headstrong female ignite every page. Not only is Kendyl Rayne’s hope but her presence brings hope to Rayne’s fellow Dragon guards that after all the fighting and all they’ve given up perhaps the universe still holds a wondrous female for them as well. The devotion and respect between the guards and their commander’s mate is beautiful and her concern for them is so deeply touching.
This is a hot start in a series from a new author. I can’t wait to see what else is in Julia’s mind for the group of brave dragon guards who fight to protect their family without asking for anything for themselves. I would and have recommended this to numerous friends. It’s a great mix of fantasy, sex, and action. I give this book 5 Stars! - See more at: http://lipsmackingoodbooks.blogspot.c...
Her Dragon to Slay Julia Mills This book was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review. I must say that shifter stories are not usually on my reading list. But this one has some spark to it. It was honestly a captivating read. Kyndel Masterson is walking home alone one night. She is afraid of the dark, " I can do this, I can do this" is her mantra as she bravely walks on ignoring the sounds that she may or may not truly be hearing. Rayne MacLendon is the leader of the dragon pack. It is common knowledge among dragons that fate will intervene and your mate will be revealed to you. Flying over the city on the night that Kyndel is walking home he realizes that she is the one for him and also that she is in trouble. He rescues her from trouble but is injured in the process. She takes him home and cares for him, nursing him back to health with her herbs and healing potions. The attraction between the two of them is intense and very powerful. But, alas the bad guys are coming after Rayne and they must get away. She must trust in this new found love/attraction and follow him. It is her destiny to be with him. She must go with him. There were certainly some battles here. The battle for her heart as they both realize that they are destined to be together. The battle to make it saftely away as fifty evil hunters are after him and his family. It is touch and go, there are so many hunters and there are not very many of themselves. This story was a very well written fantasy novel. I really enjoyed reading it. The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger and led the way for the next story or two to be written, which of course I will have to read to see what happens. I really enjoyed reading about the dragons, the attention to detail when describing the dragon inside him and the tattoo on his back made it very easy to visualize him. I would rate this story 4/5, very well done.
I really enjoyed this story a lot. There is of course inta "mates" love, which I actually really like in a PNR. I love the idea of there being only one person in the whole world that is made just for you. I eat it up with a spoon! Rayne is super hot and Kyndel is super sassy- only just a tad bit annoying. She is also very sweet. I love them together.
My problem with the book is that the writing is very repetitive. Like the author was trying to make the book longer. If that's the case, she could have given more details of the Dragon culture or history. Or more of Rayne and Kyndel sharing personal history. Maybe added some more getting to know you time. That may have bumped my rating to 4 stars. Even with those issues I thought the story was good.
Another thing I LOVED is in this story, Dragon shifters came into existence during the days of King Author! I love all things Camelot! You'll have to read it to get more details. I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series. Happy reading!!
I have to say that this is the first book I have read by this author. I was totally impressed. It is the story of a group of dragon shifters. While trying to protect their own kind, and the human race, they are also on the lookout for their mates. Rayne, the leader of the group, finds his mate while saving her from a would-be attacker. She is a beauty, but has some real trust issues. However from the first time she sees Rayne, she trusts him. Nothing like this has happened before, and she dosen’t understand it. Come on along as they learn more about each other, and she learns who and what he really is. It’s quite a ride, and I can hardly wait for the others to follow. Hope the journey with these shifters never ends.
5++ Star A must read for anyone who likes shifter books. This book deserves a lot more than 5 stars. The thing that I loved about the book is by her amazing details of ALL the guard , I hope she is planning to write a story about each of them.
Julia has done a great job. The characters were well developed, doors were left open for future installments. I cannot see where this book needs any improvements. I really look forward to future installments in this series, and any other work by Julia.
My favorite quotes fro this book are:
'She'd accused him of being an escaped mental patient and he watched as she wondered if it was him or her that needed therapy.'
'Kyndel Masterson was not a woman that followed anyone on blind faith. That kind of shit got a person betrayed, hurt, or worse - dead!'
I was lucky enough to have recently won a copy of Her Dragon To Slay from Julia and I loved it. I have had it on my wish list since it came out. Her Dragon To Slay introduces us to Rayne and Kyndel. A dragon and his human mate. I love the interactions between the two. Kyndel is strong enough to be Rayne's mate for sure. Rayne is the ultimate alpha in my opinion. This story is full of hot emotions, adventures, and more dragons than you can shake a stick at. I totally encourage your to get your copy of Her Dragon To Slay. Julia Mills is a great new author with a great future in the romance genre industry.
Her Dragon to Slay is a beautifully written love story between Kyndel, a transplanted county girl skilled in the old ways of healing, and Rayne, a commander in the Red Dragon Clan. This story encompasses their beginning as hunted prey by Rayne's enemies, the flight to safety, ultimate betrayal by a friend, then to their destiny as fated soul mates. The journey is filled with sass, desire, and hot sex. A "Spitfire" of a story! I was given a free copy of this book by the author who asked for an honest review.
This book is AWESOME!!!! I think my new favorite shifter is dragons!! Kyndel on her way home one night runs into a hot, gorgeous man. Later she finds out that he is a dragon shifter and that she is his mate.. The storyline in this story is perfect.. The characters are flawless..The sex scenes well they make me jealous..I highly recommend this book to everyone..It is a wonderful, awesome, rocking read.
love this book! it was well written, i felt all of the emotions good and bad just like it was happening to me and thats what makes a great book! i would have liked more background to see what all the dragons have to go though with finding thier mate and maybe some train fights. now i have to wait for the next book :(
Pretty good. My only problem with this book is that I kind of lost interest in the middle. But I picked it back up and finished it. I liked the story of this book. Though I want to know more about the Elder, Zachary. He seems so interesting and I want to know how he fits in with everything. Overall an enjoyable read.
This is a great story. It totally took me away and by the end of it I found myself wishing for a dragon man. I'll be looking for the next one as well. It's beautifully written. Lovely and erotic. Well done.
okay, I am totally in love with the Dragon Guards and I WANT ONE OF MY OWN! I mean really what girl wouldn't? hot, sexy, will move heaven and earth for their mate, and can turn into a dragon, what more can a girl ask for?
