Navy SEALs undercover on a Texas Ranch? Holly Castillo’s A SEAL NEVER QUITS has some action, some romance, a lot of secrets and some hot SEALs saddling up for danger and covert operations.

When their leader finds himself falling for the local veterinarian, their mission could be compromised if she discovers who he really is. The only problem is the heroine just didn’t come to life for me. I couldn’t believe in her as a fully functioning human, let alone a worthy love interest for the team leader, but I do see some major potential for the rest of the SEAL team in future books!

A quick read, light on depth, and maybe a not a love match made in readers’ heaven, but Holly Castillo does entertain with SEAL team interactions!

Undercover on a Texas ranch with his tight-knit Navy SEAL team, Lieutenant Amador “Stryker” Salas and their assignment requires all their skills, all their secrets and all their know-how. The local veterinarian, Amya Gutierrez loves animals and the ranching life and when she becomes caught in the crosshairs of a mission gone sideways, Stryker must risk everything to keep her out of harm’s way, even if it destroys him.

The first book in an exciting new Navy SEAL series is off to a great start with a host of wonderfully sexy cowboy SEALs, thrilling suspense and a sweet romance. The characters are strong, compelling and easily grab readers’ attentions and the chemistry between Stryker and Anya is off the charts sizzling. The relationship between them however is complicated the secrets that he keeps and the heroine is spunky and keeps a level head about her when things go wrong, making it her very likeable.

The plot is a complex, multi-faceted web of intrigue and bad guys and while a little on the slow side, there is lots of suspense and excitement as surprising twists causes some very deadly changes in the team’s mission. They have been tasked with covert ops across the border that has enemies popping up everywhere, betrayals, traitors, and danger flowing from the pages and readers wanting to know more.

I loved the premise of a Special-Ops team setting up shop on a sprawling ranch with an ongoing antagonist hiding behind every bush. I did find that six handsome alpha males doing this in a small town close to the bad guys, with no believable story, and money to burn on said ranch…unbelievable and asking for trouble. However, I liked all the guys and their group dynamic. Stryker was believable and thankfully he didn’t dwell on the “I’m not good enough for her” too much. Anya was also believable and had an inner strength that moved the story along. Their romance was hot and moved along the storyline quite well. The bad guys were a little stereotypical, but fun to read and guess about who is pulling their strings. I found this book to be a fun and exciting read – making me anxious to see where the series goes from here.

A SEAL Never Quits (Texas Navy SEALs #1) by Holly Castillo
3.5 stars
M/F Military Romance
Triggers: Kidnapping, Murder, Drugs
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Amador "Stryker" Salas is a SEAL who used to live on a ranch. Because of that, he is tasked with a secret missing to see how the drug cartels are able to evade the authorities, both in the United States and across the boarder. He puts together his best team and they start to outfit the ranch with everything they might need. Since Stryker and his teammates have to continue their cover, the ranch continues to operate as normal.

Anya is a vet. She loves her job and even though sometimes it's hard and demanding, she wouldn't want to be doing anything else. When she heads to the ranch to meet the new owners, she's shocked to discover her attraction to Stryker. In fact, all of the men that she meets at the ranch are handsome.

With Stryker's team seeing that the missing is being put in jeopardy, it will take everyone around them to figure out where they go from here. Anya has to decide whether or not she can really see a future with Stryker and the SEAL all have to decide for themselves if they can trust outside people.

I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of this book. The romance, for me, needed some work. It was an insta-romance that was trying to be masked as a courtship. However, the characters reiterated a lot how much they wanted each other, despite just having met.

Anyway, I still enjoyed this book and can't wait to see what happens next. There are tons of characters who could be getting in on this storyline and I'm a fan of all of them.

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Hmm. I didn’t get on with this book at all. This is probably the least plausible military romantic suspense I can remember. Beyond the bizarre premise and generic characters, I couldn’t get into the romance and the suspense elements just didn’t work for me.

Somehow, readers are expected to believe that a small team of US Navy SEALs has replaced the DEA, FBI and any number of other agencies responsible for drug trafficking across the US/Mexico border. The team of six has agreed to live together undercover in a massive militarised compound pretending to be a ranch for several years. I found it all a bit odd. The result feels like a poor attempt to create a cowboy version of JR Ward’s BDB mansion. The SEALs themselves read like every other group of romance fiction SEALs from the past few years: muscular alpha men with nicknames and a firm sense of brotherhood.

The romance really annoyed me. At first, I liked that Anya was a capable, independent ranch veterinarian. And then a whole story arc about the gift of her virginity descends into misogynistic 1970s Harlequin romance hell. Stryker is at his best when he’s a bit clueless with his cover ranch but I really wasn’t impressed by his saviour approach to Anya. This is a pretty low heat read but honestly, the concussion sex scene is one of the least sexy scenes I’ve ever read. I’m guessing anyone who has ever had a concussion will feel as nauseous as I did reading about Anya losing her virginity while suffering from a fresh head injury.

I know that drug cartels are a problem in Mexico but I really don’t like the way Mexico is presented in this story. The unnecessarily negative stereotypes of Mexico and Mexicans only serve to reinforce racist and xenophobic propoganda from the nastiest fringes of American politics. I’m also not sure how the SEALs can still be viewed as heroes after they conduct a mass slaughter in Mexico - but I didn’t understand much about this book.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
This is the first book in the Texas Navy SEALs series and I found that there were parts I really liked and parts not so much. The whole idea of the story was good but I think there needed to be a little more in the beginning. As it starts out, the team comes to a ranch in Texas and sets up as pretend ranchers. And they are on a mission to try to stop the Mexican drug cartel from shipping drugs across the border into the US.
To me, if a SEAL team was trying to be normal ranchers and not have people asking questions, they should have not gone with their SEAL names. It would have made me ask questions as to how they got those names in the first place.
While Anya, the Vet, is checking on the cattle on the ranch, she is drawn to Stryker. She knows he is keeping secrets but doesn't ask what he is hiding.
Will Anya accept Stryker for who he really is? Can he protect her when the cartel comes to town?
As I said, I liked this story to a point, I love good romantic suspense but this one was missing something at times. I hope the next book is better and I can't wait to see which team member it will be.

This is the first book in the Texas Navy Seals series by Holly Castillo.

First off, this book was pretty good. I liked the overall story, romance and mystery. But this book does what many romances do which is a pet peeve of mine. It keeps telling us over and over how much they each want each other even though they have just met each other and know nothing about each other. Please just show and don’t tell. I was cringing at all the cliche words they kept telling themselves in their mind and muttering to people around them. It was kind of annoying and really this book was better than that. It didn’t need to rely on such tactics to get us interested in the romance.

Then there is the whole circumstance around the base of operations where Stryker and his team find themselves. They have the best of the best tech and yet still someone gets into the compound and takes photos of them all. I kinda find that hard to believe. Stryker had a bit of Spidey-sense at the ladder half of the book and I figure if someone had been watching all of them that someone might have sensed something during that time as well. Not to mention the whole identity of the photographer was left hanging at the end of the book. I guess that is going to be used in book two of the series which I assume will be the book of Phantom and Elaina.

Basically, the story is about a group of Navy SEALS are on a mission to take down bad guys in Southern Texas, Mexico and South America. Particularly this is focusing on a drug cartel called the Scorpions. They are pretty new to the scene but have quite a good cyber/hacker guy who had put them above the rest. The SEALS plan to infiltrate this organization and take them down.

Anya Gutierrez is the local vet for all the cattle and animals. She meets Stryker when one of his animals is having a difficult birth. When Anya and Stryker meet it is pure magic and they quickly decide they can’t stay away from each other.

This book is a happily ever after… for now type of read. If you like like your romantic suspense with more romance than suspense, then check this title out.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

A SEAL Never Quits is the first book in Holly Castillo’s new Texas Navy SEAL Series. This is an action-packed military romantic suspense novel with no cheating and a happily ever after.

Lieutenant Amador “Stryker” Salas, along with his hand chosen Navy SEAL Team, have been tasked to work undercover on a Texas cattle ranch to investigate a possible drug cartel related terrorist plot. There he meets Anya Gutierrez, the local veterinarian, who works with the animals on the ranch. The chemistry between Stryker and Anya is instantaneous and intense. Stryker is drawn to Anya’s innocent, and sunny disposition, which greatly contrasts the dark, serious and rigidly disciplined existence he has lived in for years. With Stryker, Anya feels accepted, cherished and safe. Throughout the story, Stryker struggles with accepting his connection and strong, feelings for Anya, but when his mission endangers her life, will he be able to save her before she’s lost forever? Read it and find out!

I discovered Holly Castillo and this series while searching Netgalley. The cover drew my attention and once I read the synopsis I was hooked. I love action packed, military stories with a side of romance and a whole lot of chemistry.

This is Castillo’s first foray into this genre and she has done an exceptional job. She is a phenomenal writer, who’s story telling ability keeps you hanging as you go page by page. Castillo has created a storyline and a cast of characters that draws the reader in and leave us craving more. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series, A Seal Always Wins.

I enjoyed this book! Its the first book I have read by Holly Castillo and it won't be the last. This is book 1 in the Texas Seals .So more to look forward to. I did feel like maybe there was a novella or something before this. Like I missed something. The story is told from Strykers point, Anya's point and the bad guy. Several bad guys. I thought starting this one would be typical romance suspense with Military guys, (SEALS in this case). When it came to the bad guys it seemed more intense. I personally don't need chapters of explicit "romance" but it appears to me the norm more and more for all author, and being honest, I skim those parts. The beginning and ending of sexcapade is it for me. I loved the details with all the SEALS, you connect to them, they are done well and I am sure each ones book will flesh them out more. I wanted to like Anya, the traits were there, they just werent deep enough, or fleshed out enough. I miss that, she could have been more and I think it would have made the story more. There is intrique, mystery, romance and suspense with some badass SEALS. I am grateful the arc, I am so glad I asked for it and that I read it, I will be looking for other books Holly Castillo has written and am looking forward to this series. Thank you Holly Castillo, Sourcebooks Casablanca and Netgalley All thoughts and opinions are my own and were unsolicited.

A SEAL NEVER QUITS is the first story in Holly Castillo’s series, Texas Navy Seals. It definitely caught my attention as I’ve read and loved other books, series by the author. There is world-building in this one, there needs to be, mainly because there’s a mission-based over-arching thread that will go on throughout the series, but also because the men of the SEAL team are a complicated group, each with their own issues to be -eventually- dealt with in their own stories… and a possible betrayal within their ranks.

Stryker and Anya are an interesting couple given their backgrounds, life experiences and the secrets that his mission requires that Stryker keeps from Anya.

The underlying mission to take down a drug cartel and the obvious mole that must exist within their team or support because needed information is not making its way to them as it should be doing will provide the suspense to this story. I’m a bit torn on the romance aspects, yet that is my opinion and any reader should make up their own minds.

I enjoyed A SEAL NEVER QUITS and will continue the series as I now need to know what comes next. While I didn’t outright love Stryker’s and Anya’s story for my own reasons, this one is a good base to launch the rest of the series off from, and I’m curious to see where it goes next.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

I know Holly Castillo as a historical fiction writer so finding A SEAL Never Quits was a surprise. Yet, she brings her style of romance, mystery and suspense to the contemporary time effortlessly. There is much to like in this book especially Lieutenant Amador "Stryker" Salas who has his team with him on this Texas ranch. So it looks to be the start of a brand new series.

I am not sure I believe the undercover of the Seal Team on American soil but it made for an interesting story-line. Since their true operations or missions are across the border I could give a pass to this one question. Anya Gutierrez is a local vet who is drawn to Stryker and he is to her. They have instant attraction which leads to a physical relationship. There is the problem, not one based on love so much as attraction until she is in danger too.

It is action-packed with lots of suspense which the team is accustomed to handling. Told from several point of view, with a subplot between two other characters. The book allows the reader to see inside of the villains’ heads and to see much of their behavior. This an interesting way to tell the story. It did not take away from the SEAL Team story but really let you know what kind of people they were up against. The action and suspense were the best part of the story.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

What an action packed book! Lots of smoldering attraction, SEAL missions, and betrayal add up to an exciting romantic drama. Stryker and his SEAL team are tasked with bringing down a drug cartel while acting as ranchers. Stryker meets the veterinarian for the ranch,,Anya and the sparks fly!

Lots of twists and turns as the team tries to find out why classified information is leaked or they are not receiving the full mission info that they need to survive. Hope there is more revealed in a future book as we just get a glimpse at the end of who is behind this plot.

Stryker keeps letting himself get deeper and deeper with Anya but then pulls back which hurts Anya. It is also hard for him as he cannot tell her who he really is or what he is doing there so that is another complication to their story!

Things really fall apart for their mission and for Stryker when Anya is in danger. I love that she doesn't wait to be rescued and tries to save herself!

Great HEA but I sure hope that Phantom and Elena will get their own book!!

This is the first book in a wonderful new series There are a few series around where we have undercover seals appearing to be something in this case they are working on a ranch but at the same time they are working to bring down the drug cartels and find out how they are evading authorities

Lieutenant Amador “Stryker” Salas is the leader of this band of undercover Seals and he and his men are determined to stop what could be a terrorist plot. He is deeply attracted to Anya Gutierrez the local vet who cares for the animals on the ranch. The feeling is mutual but Stryker doesn't want to get involved in case it blows his cover They are also total opposites he is buttoned down and serious from the dark work that he has done while she is sunny and sweet But when danger threatens her Stryker will not only tell her his secret mission but will go all out to keep her safe. This is a fairly quick read but there is plenty of drama and suspense to keep you engaged throughout Looking forward to more books in what looks like a great series

Lieutenant Amador "Stryker" Salas and his Navy SEAL team have been assigned to a covert operation on a ranch in Texas. There is possible information that a terrorist attack, against the United States, is being planned. They are to appear to be ranchers while determining if the threat is credible and if things should go bad, the government will disavow any knowledge of the team or operation. When Anya Gutierrez, the local veterinarian, shows up at the ranch, Stryker has no idea who she really is, but finds that she has been treating the animals on the ranch for years. When the terrorists learn about the ranch, the danger rises. Someone is disposing of those who no longer can provide needed information. Who is the “head boss” behind the threat? Meanwhile, the attraction is strong between Stryker and Anya and when Anya could be in danger, Stryker must protect her at all costs. A thrilling romantic suspense from beginning to end. I loved how I was pulled into this story - the connection between the main characters, the brotherhood shown with the team, and the way the small Texas town and ranch and the missions came to life around me. I appreciated and adored getting to really feel and understand both Anya and Stryker, getting lots of time in both of their heads and riding out the push and pull of their relationship. Add in a crazy bad-guy story line that delivers just the right amount of anxiety, suspense, and surprises and you have a attention-grabbing action-adventure suspense romance story!

I loved how Anya was a mix of sweet, strong and vulnerable - the perfect compliment to Stryker's protective nature and tough-guy emotional needs. These two truly needed the other one, fitting together like they should.

I look forward to the next book, seeing what's next for this SEAL team to uncover and see another SEAL heart be conquered.

The story has moments of being really good but than the author seems to get lost in the romance or details and readers are confused why the seal are working at a ranch. Even though it is explained in the book many many many times but it really doesn't make since in the end. The secondary story is very typical of a "Undercover Special Forces."

The story works but it doesn't flow well and lacks focus many different times.

Thank you for the copy from Netgalley and the publisher Sourcebook Casablanca for a copy of Holly Castillo A Seal Never Quits.

A SEAL Never Quits is the first in a new romantic suspense series. I never figured to find a bunch of SEALs in Texas but that’s where their undercover mission takes them. Stryker is the guy in charge. He has done the marriage thing and failed miserably. He is married to the Navy now and couldn’t be happier. That is until he meets feisty Dr. Anya Gutierrez, the local veterinarian. She stirs up feelings he thought long dead.
This story takes us hopping over the border between the US and Mexico fighting a new high tech cartel. This is a sweet story filled with action, intrigue and love.

Gotta love those sexy Navy Seals! Excellent read with rich characters and some wonderful plot twists that keep you turning the pages. The story revolves around a six-man Seal Team sent to cripple the Mexican cartels by hiding in plan sight on a Texas ranch. When romance blooms between the local vet and the Team leader it’s a wild ride as the Team goes into action the cartel enters US soil to retaliate.

A SEAL Never Quits is a thrill ride you won't want to end! Stryker - I don't even have words for this man...*sigh* Give me a SEAL, a woman with a backbone, then throw in animals, and I'm sold! This was a wonderful start to a new series and I'm counting down until the next one comes out. It was an exciting story, keeping your attention while not being able to turn the pages fast enough. A Seal Never Quits by Holly Castillo features an alpha male hero deluxe—Stryker—and a small-town veterinarian named Anya. Their chemistry is excellent and Styker’s journey to opening himself up to love is nice. Most exception is that Anya is no shrinking violet heroine. I won’t give any spoilers, but she can think on her feet.

The “love story” in this book is extremely sappy and a little pathetic at times and it was so frustrating reading two strong independent characters develop such an obnoxious obsession for each other to where the female character Anya just becomes annoying. Honestly I may have given up or struggled my way through it If not for the bigger story and the SEALs mission. The suspense and action part of the book is on point and kept me reading through the night last night. I’m really into the bigger story and am dying to read the second book and find out more about who all the players are behind the Scorpions. I just hope to have more depth to the female character in the next book.

Stryker and Anya take on the Scorpion Cartel.

It is not easy to keep 8 characters interacting with humour and suspense all the way through the book, but Holly has done this.
The main players in this nook was Stryker and Anya and they were well matched.
I thoroughly enjoyed the read and look forward to reading more of her books.
