Recommends it for: Those Looking for Children's Stories Addressing Change and/or Parting with a Friend
The nature of change, and the importance of embracing it and the new experiences it brings, is explored in this new picture-book from author/illustrator Cori Doerrfeld. Each goodbye leads to a hello in the simple text here - goodbye to summer means hello to autumn, goodbye to snowmen means hello to puddles - but when it is goodbye to a friend, things become much more difficult. Fortunately, goodbye doesn't have to mean complete separation, and when a friend moves away another appears on the hori ...more

This is a really sweet book about how every goodbye leads to a new hello, in every instance of life. Even though some goodbyes are harder than others. You say goodbye to the sun, to say hello to night time and firefly's. Say goodbye to sitting alone to saying hello to sitting together. Really sweet things like that. Great Read!

This wonderful little book sent me through such a range of bittersweet emotions. Goodbye, Friend! Hello, Friend! portrays the lifelong message that when one door closes, another opens. Sometimes it's hard, and it might feel like the end, but there is always something to come around the corner. I'm in love with this book, and recommend it even to fellow adults. Overall heartwarming, inspiring, and sweet; a read have for all.

Childrens picture book. This deceptively simple book extends the message that every goodbye leads to a hello (or every ending leads to a new beginning). A young girl says goodbye to lots of things--her mom on the first day of school, the outdoors when it gets too cold; only to say hello to other things, such as a new friend, and playing indoors. The story gets more serious as she says goodbye to a lost goldfish and later to her best friend as she moves away. I admit to tearing up near the end of ...more

In a beautifully, touching book, Cori Doerrfeld looks at life's changes through a child's lense and experience. Her bold, soft illustrations perfectly capture the fun and emotions (good and bad) of a child's world. While ultimately an uplifting and empowering story, it doesn't shy away from some intense and painful emotions and experiences. A beautiful and touching book that encourages kids to accept changes as they come, because change often opens the door for something unexpectedly wonderful. ...more
This heartwarming picture books will resonate with young readers who are beginning to experience life's hellos and goodbyes. Oftentimes we get caught up in the grief of a goodbye to a lovely time or a family pet or a good friend. But with time, we come to realize that sad times pass and lead to happy times again. This book uses the same gentle language and comforting illustrtations that made The Rabbit Listened such a popular book.
Loved it. I love her illustrations and her text and ideas. I'm a huge fan of The Rabbit Listened, and this book did not disappoint.

I love Cori's illustrations. I don't know if it's the colors, the details, but they all draw me in!
For every cause, there's an effect - hellos and goodbyes. A beautiful story about the highs and lows of a young person's life and how one thing can lead into the other.
