“Tears from Iron” is the first book in the Memories of the Cataclysm series by Jonathan Oldenburg. This fantasy takes place in a land after a cataclysm was caused by a great war between gods. The war left the land devastated with natural disasters including earthquakes and floods. The Syraestari are immortal beings who broke an oath so that they could live on their own terms. Their terms involved binding others into slavery. The T’Okaedrin are the

In the aftermath of a cataclysmic war between godlike beings, a race of elves (they're not called that, but they're basically elves) attempt to rebuild a civilization, but are under threat from the far more numerous humans. Tears from Iron is the intimate story of his personal conversion both mind and heart to a new truth and worldview, with enough back-story and side stories to give a rich immersive experience. Excellent

Really enjoyed the characters and themes this book brought to the table. The world building was good and the the ASTARI were well crafted with foibles and strengths that pointed to their extended lives. "Declaring the ending from the beginning, in ancient times things not yet done saying, my counsel shall stand and I will accomplish all my purposes." Elegantly done Mr. Oldenburg.

Good

An overall good book. A story taking you through how a subjugated people could break unseen chains. Very much a traditional epic fantasy, although the good verses evil was a little obscure.
