Things on Daybreak Island have gotten quieter now that it has entered November and the season is officially over. Maddie James is delighted to find that she still has a few locals who drop into her cat cafe. But she’s really surprised about the man who came in, paid for a week in advance, and spends most of his time working on his laptop surrounded by the cats. However, things get interesting when a woman shows up and announces that she believes JJ, Maddie’s cat, is really her cat. Naturally, ...more

I always love to read an update in this series, and this was no exception. Maddie James is just enjoying the off season, but still attracting in a few regulars to her Cat Cafe. Although she doesn't realize it, one of her customers is a famous author, and when he is found floating in the harbour, Maddie unravels the clues to catch the killer!

The biggest disappointments in this novel is Grandpa and Lucas. The first doesn't seem to trust Maddie, and in the end I think his explanation was flimsy at

One of my fav series. Maddie James opened at cat cafe in her grandfather's house on Daybreak Island. Tourists are mainly gone now and the cafe has plenty of cats, but fewer customers. There is one customer who pays in advance for a week and quietly works at his computer. Turns out he's a best selling author, and then he turns up dead. Did the odd woman who came in claiming that Maggie's cat JJ, is her missing cat have something to do with it? Or Maddie 's friend, Leopard Man, have another ...more

I love this series! Including The Tell Tail Heart. The characters are endearing and engaging, the cats adorable, and the mysteries are challenging for this armchair sleuth.

I couldn't imagine spending a winter on Daybreak Island, subject to nor'easters and other storms that could keep one from leaving the island at all for days at a time. It would be fun for a while except for folks who get stressed when feeling confined.

Speaking of confined, there is at least one person who needs to be

I've enjoyed the previous books in this series so I was looking forward to catching up with the characters in this book. I have to say, this was not my favorite book so far. I live the characters and enjoyed learning more about Leopard Man and his backstory. I thought the mystery was solid and kept me guessing. It came together in a climactic reveal where Maddie once again finds herself in danger. What I didn't care for was Maddie's attitude in this book. At times, it felt a bit like she was ...more

Half way thoughts:

Cate Conte is another author who does not worry too much about details. Her protagonist, Maddie James, seems a bit of an airhead. When a famous author leaves a notebook behind in her cat cafe, Maddie tells her grandfather to toss it in the Lost and Found box conveniently located by the front door. A stupid thing to do considering how valuable the unpublished book of a best selling author would be, she knew who it belonged to and furthermore, he had pre-paid a week in the cafe

I started to feel bad that I only gave it 3 stars, until I read other reviews and realized I wasn’t alone in my feelings about this book.
Maddie acted like a spoiled brat throughout this installment. Craig and grandpa were doing their jobs, but it only served to tick her off because she felt she was left out of the loop. She was sullen, moody and all around unlikeable. Poor JJ was relegated to a barely there always sleeping prop. For a new business owner, she hardly ever spent time doing the

I read the first book in this series and fond it pleasant but with some character and plot development issues. This one is really better and I read it as fast as I could.
The book is engaging and entertaining, I really liked the cast of characters, both human and feline, and the setting.
The plot is complex, full of twists and turns, and it keeps you guessing till the end.
It was great to see how the characters and their relationships evolved and learn more about the Leopard Man.
I look forward to

I adore this series and was thrilled to receive this book for review. I am a fan of the previous books in the series. This book can be read as a stand alone. I do recommend the series for your reading enjoyment . This series is pure catnip for cat lovers ! JJ the cat has a prominent place in this series as a well loved cat as he should be.
Thank you to Net Galley and to the publisher . My opinions are my own.

It is always delightful to return to Daybreak Island. I love the author' descriptions

Now that the tourist season is over, Maddie is taking advantage of the slow time to do some construction work on the home where her cafe is located. Her only regular customer at this point is a famous writer who comes in each day to hang with the cats and work on his latest project. Maddie's relationship with dog groomer Lucas is going well, and she's happy that her sister seems to be finding her own niche after a messy divorce. However, Maddie's rosy world starts to crumble when a strange woman ...more

Once again I was so drawn into a book that I just couldn’t put it down. This third book in the series was a page turner with many twists. Some include people who are staples in the series so far.

A writer is murdered and there is much mystery about why he was on the island in the first place. He truly seemed happy writing at JJ’s House of Purrs, the cat cafe’. Somehow Leopard Man is involved. Grandpa Leo won’t share with her his investigation, which is driving Maddie crazy. Top it off with a

Things should be calm on Daybreak Island, especially since it's the off season but nooo..... If you've read either of the two previous books in this series, you know how much JJ the cat means to Maddie. Heck, anyone who has a cat knows about that special relationship. This time out, Maddie and Grandpa Leo, a former police chief who now runs the cat cafe with Maddie, look into the murder of a visitor to the island, a writer who had, well, some people who didn't like him. This mystery isn't too ...more

Great book! A famous writer has been visiting Daybreak Harbor and suddenly is found murdered. A strange woman had recently been in the cat cafe claiming that Maddie's cat, JJ, was hers. It seems like she could be a suspect, as well as the man's ex-wife and writing partner. Also, Leopard Man seems to be involved somehow. Maddie's grandfather won't let her help with the investigation he is doing, so she goes it alone. Maddie's sister, Val, is helping a woman plan a big Thanksgiving party, and the ...more

Very good mystery in this latest installment of Cate Conte's cat cafe mysteries. I really love that a lot of regulars that we have come to know and love are featured!!!! Someone's secret past is the subject being investigated by a mystery/suspense author who used to be a investigative journalist and then the journalist is murdered, coincidence, Maddie is not so sure and so the craziness begins. To add to her stress a stranger on the island claims JJ is her cat and her boyfriend is stuck off ...more

It's winter on Daybreak Island and Maddie James is hoping for some downtime during the off-season. She's surprised to learn that the man who is using her cat café for the week is a famous author and when a woman comes in to play with the cats, she claims Maddie's personal cat, JJ, is hers, Maddie is surprised again. But the most disturbing thing is the way the two of them react to each other then the author's body being found the next day.

Maddie is trying to make the most of the slow season but is thrown for a loop when a stranger comes into the Cat Cafe and claims that J.J. is her cat. At the same time a recent daily customer runs from the cafe after spotting the woman. Maddie is shocked to find out the man that's been visiting daily is a famous writer that seems to be working on a new story based on a local's secret past.
Great story! I enjoyed learning all the secrets as they unfolded. I can't wait for the next book in this

This is an amazing book in a phenomenal series. I started reading this book, and I couldn't put it down. I love reconnecting with Maddie, her grandfather, her family and friends, and of course JJ her cat. There were so many twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. We learned the back story of one of the characters, and it was very fascinating and interesting. I would absolutely love to go to the cat café and spend time with the cats. The characters are real, and I appreciate that. I ...more

This is the third book in this series and it continues with a good mystery and plot. Maddie is busy getting her cat cafe and home remodeled and is hoping to open a juice bar downtown as well. When a well-known author is using the cat cafe to write and then ends up dead in the harbor, things begin to get dicey for Maddie and company. First a woman claim JJ as her cat, then Val's involved in strange goings on at the yacht club, then Lucas goes away for a conference and everything falls apart! I ...more

After much internal debate, I've decided to go with two stars; it just didn't quite make three stars for me. It really was just "it's fine," "it's okay." The B plot could have been interesting by having it tie into the main plot. The whole romantic sub-plot has always been iffy for me; now it's apparently a triangle? Some things were never explained sufficiently. I don't know. I'm just meh about it.

I am truly in love with this series!!!

Extraordinary and absolutely riveting! This
series is brilliantly written and so entertaining
that there was no way I could put it down. JJ,
the cat, is a wonderful character and I'm
definitely looking forward to more of this series.
It most assuredly is going into my book of
favorite authors and series!! Hope it won't be
long until the next book comes out!!!!!

Another enjoyable read in the Cat Cafe Mystery series. Maddie and her cafe, but particularly her cat JJ, are always so lovely to catch up with again. It is a pleasant cozy mystery set on an island off the Massachusetts coast which adds an extra dimension to the surroundings and events. Definitely worth giving this series a try.

By far the best entry in this series. Cant' wait to see what happens with Lucas in the next! the mystery was good although the culprit was pretty predictable. And JJ definitely needs more to do in the next one other than sleep LOL.

A twisted tale of murder, model ships and Leopard Man! Grips you from the very beginning and doesn't let go! Fans of this series will be on tenterhooks until the 4th book, because of a twist at the end!!!
Jeanne
Strong entry in the series, about a 3.7. I think Conte has hit her stride. There were a couple of things about the mystery that I paused over but decided they don't really matter in the scheme of things. Characters are developing nicely, and there's a good cast.
