Al-Faisel wants to punish the Great Satan (U.S.) so he forces an ex-Special Forces guy to recruit colleagues with financial hardships for coordinated, simultaneous attacks: first, snipers killing scores of people at high school football games in the mid-West to show nobody is safe. One sniper is captured and hidden by the FBI and Director Irene Rivers asks Jonathan Grave (Digger) and his team to use their skills extrajudicially to stop the plot. Time and again, developments suggest that there is ...more

Okay I'm a series girl and when I find a new author to me and I like the book and its characters I always want it to be a series, so Yay! I have ten books I can go back and read. You can bet I'll start in that immediately as this book is amazing.

Great characters, great plot and even better action. Who can not love Boxers and his love of violence and pain? But he is well balanced by Digger (Jonathan) who has a moral compass. Gail (Gunslinger) is the former police side of the unit and we can never

OMG. This book starts with a bang, goes for the throat, and never lets up. Gilstrap, an excellent writer and plotter, keeps the suspense going throughout the book, ratcheting it up so that this reader had to stop and take a deep breath before plunging back into the maelstrom.

I don’t like spoilers, so I don’t want to give anything away, but suffice it to say that just when the reader thinks there is going to be a break in the action, something else happens; Gilstrap is relentless. If you have

Mayhem grew to critical proportions in mere seconds.

Graves team of coverts for the FBI are on the case when a handful of high school shootings occur at the same time. The shootings were professional and did not discriminate. Done at a high school football game where all mayhem broke lose. Grave's team has a lead when a shooter is apprehended but on meeting with the shooter, they only come up with more questions and a deeper concern arise. They only know one thing, more mayhem is

John Gilstrap and Joanthan Graves...a match made in thriller suspense heaven! It's Friday Night Lights Out when terrorists simultaneously strike multiple targets in small town USA. Wolverine calls in Digger and team to track down the terrorists before they can strike again. That proves tricky when you can't tell the good guys from the bad and don't know who to trust. This is a fast paced thrill ride that zips from small towns to black site prisons and hospitals to the center of Justice in the ...more

Another good one. Fast pace, lots of action & suspense, great characters.
Some humor w/that saracastic/smart aleck wit of Jonathon & his team.

I would just like to say I really, really appreciate the way the writer did simple, little summaries (ie. a few sentences) throughout the narrative to catch up any readers if it’d been a while or for a new reader so they wouldn’t be lost & would know who & what things were. Yeah Mr. Gilstrap!!!!!! :)
It’s come up in a some recent books by my

What a great continuation of this series. To those of us who have been with Digger, Boxer and Ven from the beginning, this one hit close to home. The relationships, especially that between Dig and Big Guy, are so real and you can just feel their connection. There is a bit of stress with Ven, but that just adds to the feeling of true life reactions with a team that has been through the fire many times, for many years.

Yes, the premise is disturbing ( but unfortunately, clearly possible) and if

Another winner from John Gilstrap

I have read them all and they are all very, very good. Mr. Gilstrap is a master story crafter and is well worth the time spent reading his stories. My only complaint is that once you start reading it is hard to stop.

In this 11th volume of his Jonathan Grave series, John Gilstrap very much sticks to the formula that has worked well in the past 10 books but the setting remains much closer (perhaps too close?) to home this time.
Readers with a weaponry fetisch will perhaps be a little disappointed this time, whereas readers missing a little romance in the past books will be more fulfilled. The dialogue is still not super impressive as the macho field operator lingo is prevalent with cool radio call signs and

First, thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the Advance Readers Copy of TOTAL MAYHEM. This is John Gilstrap's 11th Digger Grave novel, and one of the best so far. Digger and his team are called into action by FBI Director Irene Rivers, who needs a covert team to hunt down a home-grown terrorist group that is coordinating mass-murder attacks in Middle America. The writing, as usual, is excellent, and the team gives their best performance to date. Gilstrap remains on my MUST-READ ...more

I have read a number of books from this author and like the rest…this book is starts out with a bang and does not let up after that. I have to admit that I was a little unnerved by the body count and I also felt that the ending was a little abrupt.. I wish that there was an Epilogue to tie loose ends up. Other than that, a very good read if you like a thriller and suspense! I would rate this a solid 4-1/4 stars

I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of

Total Mayhem is the eleventh book in the Jonathan Graves series by John Gilstrap.

Coordinated attacks wreak terror on middle America. Jonathan and his team are asked by Wolverine, the Director of the FBI, to find who is behind it and stop them. At whatever the cost...

I've been a fan of John Gilstrap since Nathan's Run. And I've enjoyed the Jonathan Graves series. This book is a departure from previous books in that Jonathan and team look for domestic terrorists, instead of hostage rescue.

Middle America is under fire and Digger, Boxer & Gunslinger are trying to learn all they can about what happened. Small town school football games were attacked all at the same time. This time the attacks are directed at innocents of all ages. It is a 'on the edge of your seat' story from beginning to the end. Every time the group think they are getting near they lose their advantage. Who are these guys and why are they doing this terrible thing? The closer Digger and his group get the more ...more

Another exciting and excellent thriller from John Gilstrap. His novels never disappoint. I can only hope he continues to write such intense and satisfying books. The action never ceases, while still providing authentic characterizations and personalities that draw the reader in. These novels could be HBO’s next great series. I hope they are considering the possibility. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy. I loved it!

This book falls squarely in the thriller genre, and is a work of fiction. The plot involves using ex-US military, dishonorably discharged from the military, in debt for various reasons, through the use of external (middle-eastern) money to bring “total mayhem” to mid-America through coordinated sniper attacks at football games, huge bombings of small-town courthouses, and ultimately major terrorist attempts in larger cities.

I heard the author speak at my local bookstore, One More Page in Falls

If you’re searching for a read that is breathtaking and terrifying, I have a recommendation for you. John Gilstrap’s Total Mayhem (Pinnacle Books, Kensignton Publishing Corp., 2019) will grip you from its first sentence—“Tom Darone had seen a lot of people die in his day, but not like this”—to the gut-wrenching first paragraph to one of the fastest moving chapters I’ve ever read. And it doesn’t let up much from there.
I’ve read several of Gilstrap’s earlier entries in the Jonathan Grave series

Three generations of two patrician families and secrets that echo down the decades drive this luminous novel - but not quickly, which is part of its charm. Chap and Wyatt Collier were born to follow their father into the executive suite of the stheel company that built a nation and gave the town - and the book itself - its name. Susannah and India Parrish, daughters of an a similarly wealthy and influential family, grow into young womanhood, and Susannah' s eventual betrothal to Wyatt is assumed ...more

Total Mayhem certainly kept me riveted, and that's the main point with a book read for entertainment. I went through its over 400 pages in a day and a half. I started reading Saturday evening and finished at 3am Monday morning. That's another sign--that I stayed up way too late reading.

I was just a little disappointed in this particular book. I've read plenty of Mr. Gilstrap's work before, so I pretty well know what to expect, but authors in this genre can get a little too cavalier with human

Well-written story with plenty of action, explosions, shootouts, surprises, intrigue, with a little romance thrown in. And a high body count. Good story flow. The storyline about stopping domestic terrorists deviates from the previous books that were about rescuing kidnap victims. The ending definitely had me on the edge of my chair, but left loose ends that I suppose lead to the next book, and that rally house was very convenient.

The plot was very scary in that this could happen at any time in

So this is book 11 in this series but it is the first in the series i have read. This is a page turning thriller with a storyline of former special ops guys becoming traitors and enacting terrorism on US soil. I did want to understand a bit more of why they turned but maybe that is because i don’t want to think that guys who served our country would turn like that for money.

For those that enjoy covert ops types of books. My only real criticism is that it ended rather abruptly I wanted a bit more

ALWAYS an exciting read!

Let me start by saying that Jonathan Grave and Big Guy are 2 of my favorite characters. The action and adventure are always with the read. I love Big Guy's sense of humor and his love of ALL things that go bang or boom.
This storyline is so relevant and heartbreakingly possible. Mass shootings are now a part of the fabric of today's society, as there was another one this past weekend in Northern California at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
The scope of what Dig and Big Guy

I had not read the first 10 books in the Jonathan Grave Thriller series. I will be remedying that. Total Mayhem is a roller coaster of a thriller. The pacing is fast of course, and the action comes at you just as fast. I was not confused or lost, John Gilstrap does an excellent job of providing any necessary back story. I was particularly impressed by the balance of action and story. The transitions are seamless, and the action sequences move the story along rather than interrupt it. Characters ...more

Must read

I have always enjoyed the series, but as I have said before about Graves thrillers "I could not put it down" has never been more accurate for this book. Well planned out and executed. There is one issue and in this case half an issue, I always want or expect more when the bad guys get theirs and I normally left a little empty after pages of suspense build up to be let down by a weak ending. This time half true the two main villains one received what I would expect the other I would have

John Gilstrap is an amazing author, and I thank Goodreads for recommending him to me. I can tell that I'm gonna read many of his books in the years to come. This definitely beats Jack Carr's "True Believer" for my favourite thriller released in 2019. When I thought Jack Carr made me care for his characters, I hadn't seen anything. I've never read a book where the author gets me so into the story. Never before have I read a book that's over 500 pages in seven days. I love the characters, the ...more

The title tells you a lot. It IS Total Mayhem.
Jonathan Grave and his team are sent to find who is perpetrating very organized terror attacks on middle America.
Former special forces guys are working for ISIS.
Anyway, this is a different sort of a mission since Boxers, the guy the size of a redwood who likes to blow things up, and Jonathon's right hand man are on the hunt. There will be no arrests, no jail time.
Find the terrorists- kill them and get out.
The terror escalates and time is running

A little bit about my background... I've always been a closet-writer. As a kid, I lived for the opportunity to write short stories. I was the editor of my high school newspaper for a while (the Valor Dictus, Robinson High School, class of 1975), until I quit ("You can't fire me! I quit!") over a lofty First Amendment issue that seemed very important at the time. My goal, in fact, was to become a ...more
