A photo essay that shows pre-school children of mixed abilities busily working and playing at school, illustrating the true meaning of the word "inclusion."
This is a great book that shows children that many other school interactions are the same as the interactions they experience in the classroom. Show children the diversity in the classroom and how to interact with other people in the room, providing them with a world of knowledge to play with other students. I enjoy how they capture each center in the classroom and give a good example of what to expect and the names of the students, too.
This book has real-life pictures that the children can look at and see things that are familiar to them in their own classroom. The book shows children that look different and that is wonderful, we may look different but we can all play together and have fun. The book also shows children with disabilities which is amazing to have the children again all play together and no one is singled out.
I like this book because it has real-life pictures so that children can understand easier. This book would be great to be read at the start of the semester to show how children with and without disabilities can be all friends.
I absolutely loved this book. It has actual pictures of the classroom and the children. It also has each child's story that is represented in the book. This is a great book to share with a classroom when talking about their own classroom and differences.
Gorgeous photographs capturing life in a preschool or kindergarten classroom. It's a good book to prepare a child for school. The children in the class depicted is from diverse cultures and needs.
Great book to encourage friendship in the classroom. this book gives good example of children working and playing together in the classroom. Promoting friendship.
Use this book in my child development courses. Students choose a child from the book and discuss how to modify the room and curriculum to meet that child's needs.
I love the real-life images used in the book. Children can relate to the pictures and see how although people have differences they can still play and work together.
I like how the images are real life instead of animated makes it more surreal for children to familiarize themselves with images they've seen in their everyday lives.
I love reading this book to my 3-4 year olds at the beginning of the year. They can relate to everything in the book. They love the real photos of the kids in the book!
My response to the book: Differently-abled children are friends at their school and show the reader how they play and work together throughout the day.
Curricular/Programming connections: Use for PreK-3rd graders when exploring physical challenges among people in their community.
I love how this book has wonderful photos throughout showing what happens during a typical school day. The students pictured are very diverse in respect to age, gender, race, and disabilities. It is a great book for a class discussion about what it means to be a friend and using manners/following rules. I love this one!
For kindergarten children, I would use this book in the classroom to teach children about social skills, meeting friends, and how to interact with your peers. The book illustrate to children the correct way to play and socialize with your peers in the classroom.
Great SN (special needs) book. There aren't enough books for young children with photos and this one fits the bill. Real kids, real school. I enjoyed the mini bios for each child in the back.
