Vivi Donner and Camden McNeill spent one night together, and have not seen each other since. Three years later, Vivi is a single mum to Cam’s daughter, Clem, and Cam has made a fortune in the business world. Normally, they would never meet again, except for the fact that Vivi has named Cam as her emergency contact in order that Clem be looked after should anything happen to her, and, having narrowly survived her car plunging into a river, Cam’s life is about to change in ways he never could have imagined when he answers the phone.
What really makes this story interesting is that Cam and Vivi are no longer the same people they were three years ago, and, indeed, Cam has no idea who Vivi is until he arrives at the hospital. Finding out he is a father, and that he and Vivi still have an attraction to each other sets the story on it’s way as we see both Cam and Vivi struggling to overcome the troubles of the past, and accepting that they can be a family, if only they can allow themselves to be happy.
In Cam and Vivi, Joss Wood has created two likeable characters who have a genuine connection. Both are vulnerable, and as they re-connect, you really do root for them to move forward and aim for a happy ending. What I really liked about Cam is that, for all his bravado in his professional life, we see him as a wounded, vulnerable and lonely man who feels he has nothing to offer in terms of a long term relationship, even though his instant love for his daughter gives him a reason to look at his life choices.
Similarly, Vivi is used to fending for herself and has worked hard to forge a career and bring up Clem. She is not afraid to fight for what she wants from life, and if that means walking away from Cam when he says he can’t love her then so be it.
The story is well crafted and moves at a pace that suits the characters, and once the reader realises that Cam and Vivi are falling for each other all over again, you really do believe in their relationship and want them to be happy. There is also a lot of emotion to the book, as we learn what happened when Vivi discovered she was pregnant, and the rather emotional chapter in which Cam breaks down exactly why he feels unworthy of being happy, and these elements combine to make you realise how invested you are in the relationship between the two.
As this is part of the Texas Cattleman’s Club: Houston mini series, there are lots of hints about the other club members and an ongoing mystery into the business dealings surrounding the setting up of the club, which will lead nicely into the future instalments of the series.
Thank you to Joss Wood for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

That Night in Texas by Joss Wood is a sexy reunion romance for a couple whose one night stand resulted in the birth of a beautiful, precocious daughter.

When Vivi Donner spent a passionate night with a stranger, no names were exchanged so when she ended up pregnant she had no way to share the news. As a chef in a popular Houston restaurant, it’s only when he comes in as a patron that she learns who he is – Camden McNeal, a now successful venture capitalist. Still, she doesn’t reveal the news to him, believing he’ll think she’s just after his money with a convenient story.

That all changes when a life altering event, a flood in the city, results in her near death – and the man she’d put as her emergency contact to make sure her daughter wouldn’t end up alone is called to her aid. The truth spills out and Camden finds himself once again with the woman he’s never been able to forget and the daughter Clem he never expected. Though their reunion happened under fraught circumstances, Cam is determined to be there for his new daughter, and to forge a relationship of some kind with Vivi. He doesn’t believe he’s husband material, and Vivi is so used to being independent that she has trouble accepting Cam’s offers of help. Can they find a way to create a new future together?

Vivianne Donner and Camden McNeal spent one night together that had lasting consequences. When Cam receives a call from the hospital that he’s listed as the emergency contact for Vivi, it changes his well-ordered plan for world domination in a flash.

The next great installment in the TCC series of books. The aftermath of the devastating flood unexpectedly brings Vivi back I touch with Cam. But the reason they are in touch is not what Cam is expecting. Both have had really rough childhoods. Can they each put that behind them to move on with each other.

I love the underlying story that we don't know who is trying to take down the two !most powerful men behind starting the new TCC in Houston

4 stars. I picked this up because a) Joss Wood is amazing and b) secret baby trope. That is my jam right there. I knew Wood was going to give me all of the angst and feels because that’s what she’s good at and I was not wrong nor disappointed. This was such a good read. I want more.

The writing, the angst, the romance, the chemistry between the main characters were all top notch. Cam and Vivi are both such damaged and stubborn people. I loved them both. My heart hurt for both of them and things that they had to overcome in life. Vivi with her gaslighting and emotionally manipulative mother and Cam and all of the terrible things he had to endure as a child growing up poor. It’s easy to understand why they are the way that they are. I thought they were great together though and I loved that Vivi was never afraid to call Cam out on his bullshit. She’s a badass and I adored her. Cam made me want to smack him but I also wanted to give him the biggest hug. Poor guy.

Also, their two year old daughter, Clem, was so adorable but underutilized. I wanted more scenes of her and Cam bonding.

Overall, loved this and I will definitely be going back and reading the first two books in this series and continuing on from there.

I loved this book so hard! Vivi is a hardworking woman, who left a troubled and controlling past behind, while Camden equally faced a troubled past and somehow these two fit together so well – it was a joy to read. Equally measured in the bossy and controlling bit, they figured out in the end that with love, the past belongs in the past. In that mix, there is the feisty todler that was the result of that one-night stand a few years ago...

Her child's father is back... and wants answers.

4 1/2 STARS!

An exciting reunion kicks off the latest in the Texas Cattleman's Club: Houston series. My attention was caught from page one and it held my interest throughout. The characters were well-developed and watching their story play out was quite enjoyable. Looking forward to more in the series!

Vivianne Donner awakens in the hospital after a car accident to find the man she never expected to see again at her side. Turns out she forgot she put him down as her emergency contact so he'd be able to take care of the precious cargo she never told him about!

Camden McNeal has no clue why Viv had him on her contact information, but once she wakes up and is forced to tell him about their two year old daughter, it all becomes clear. She might not have planned to ever tell him about his child unless tragedy struck, but now that he knows about her, he's not going away without a fight!

Vivi and Camden. One night stand, surprise baby. Camden gets a phone call saying he's listed as Vivi's emergency contact and can he come to the hospital. The problem, Camden does not know who Vivi is until he sees her in the hospital bed and realizes she's his one night stand from three years ago. All of the set up at the first I knew this was going to be good. Camden getting to see his daughter for the first time definite heart eyes. I wanted Vivi and Camden to have their HEA and I'm so glad Vivi was patient for Camden to see all that he was missing.

That Night in Texas by Joss Wood is the Third installment of The Texas Cattleman's Club Houston series. I loved Vivi and Cam. They were hot and intense. This book had everything rolled into one. A little suspense, one night stands, second chances and a surpise baby! Yes you read that right it has it all! I know you will enjoy getting to know Cam, Vivi, and little Clem just as much as I did. You better be ready to have your expectations blown.

Angst and drama is at the front and center of this story. Joss Wood’s creative plot ideas simply turn That Night in Texas into a page turner. Camden and Vivi are strong characters with a shared history. Their intense reactions toward each other is fanned with undeniable flames of attraction. I savored their slow-burning romance! With a deserving ending and believable turn of events, I can safely say romance lovers who pick this book up will not be disappointed.

I love each book in this series. I love the character development and the storyline. Of really enjoyed Cam and Vivi as they learned to live with each other and how to deal with a baby Cam never knew about. But is Cam ready for a family and a permanent lover?

So far Cam and Vivi are my favorite so far. I loved their story. Again though parents child rearing techniques have destroyed young adults trust in love, confidence, and themselves almost ruined their lives of happiness.
The mystery keeps going forward

Wonderful new series on the Texas Cattleman‘s Club, Houston. The characters were very realistic, with a sprinkling of people from previous books tossed in for interest. An intriguing thread of menace runs behind the storyline and I’m sure, will lead us through this series of books. Well done!
