Recommends it for: Appliance Salesmen
Hitchcock, Burgess, and Bradbury in a blender (A large blender, 'cos they were all tubby). Tardi outdoes himself yet again with the art-leave it to a frenchman to perfectly capture New York...In any event, he's neck-and-neck with Moebius as Europe's greatest comics artist. Stunning.

Onpa tässä mitä mainioin taide. Tardista tulee sitä parempi, mitä vanhemmaksi käy. Eikä tuo juonikaan ihan hölmö ole. Ei myöskään täydellinen.
Ei täydellinen, mutta todella hyvä.

Tardi has a knack for drawing specific periods and contexts. New York in the 80's looks particularly sinister and hopeless in the main story of this graphic novel. The simple, efficient plot brings out a striking image of a destroyed working class.
The main character was raised in the Bronx after WWII. He is now working as a pest killer in lower Manhattan. Equally rejected by the middle-classes who wallow in their new wealth and by the sordid ghettos which violence turns against anyone who, here

The art by Tardi is awesome as always but the story, though it's a cool concept, wasn't as developed as I'd like. The protagonist repeatedly mentions that his father was a nazi and he was given up by his parents and sent to America as a baby, but this information never ties into the plot of the story. The narrator is also pretty pathetic and unlikable, there's no one to root for in this story.
The comic aesthetically is brilliant though, it has a very Taxi Driver-era New York feel which I

I received this album from my friend Wille and I can only say, 'Thank you!'. The story requires some time while reading,... I found myself flipping back a few pages and rereading more than a few times to catch some subtelties. Although the art isn't quite as crisp as I usually like it, the overall graphical feel of the album suits the story well.
