First sentence: Do you love playing video games? If so you know that anything is possible when you're gaming. You can solve puzzles, fight monsters, and even build imaginary worlds.

Premise/plot: This is a nonfiction level two reader in a new series published by Simon & Schuster. The premise is simple: if you love video games, you could grow up to be... a video game writer, a video game animator, or a video game programmer. Each chapter includes details about that job.

My thoughts: I liked this one very much. I could see it appealing to children. Many--if not most--do love playing video games.

With bright illustrations, this book introduces young readers to several carrier paths they probably didn't know about before.

This is a Level 2 Reader and just right for kids to learn more while hitting a topic, which many will find interesting. The book is small, yet packed with information in an easy to read way. Starting out with a glossary of more difficult vocabulary and the definitions, the book is divided into several, practical chapter, which include an introduction and three carrier possibilities. The end offers a list of several more carriers which relate to the field as well as a short description.

Young readers will have no trouble understanding the information at a level and in a way they can connect to. The illustrations make certain that a light atmosphere runs along with the descriptions, keeping it from becoming a dry read.

I received a complimentary copy and found this a great way to teach kids more about future carriers.

Yes, certain careers could be an option if you love video games.

This book puts a positive spin on this popular hobby.

Readers learn how they could become:
* A video game writer
* Or an animator
* Or even a programmer

I'll give this book FIVE STARS, in honor of the intended readers. But helloooooooo!

GROWNUPS, HAVE YOU READ "IRRESISTIBLE" BY ADAM ALTER?

The full title goes like this:
"Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked"
(I've reviewed it here on Goodreads.)

It's a persuasive book, and more important than filling kids's heads with notions about how all those manipulative games -- engineered to be addictive -- are good clean fun. Or will lead to an excellent future. Let's get real!

My nieces and nephew picked out this book at the Norman, OK Public Library---an outstanding library for children with a ton of hands-on activities and an enormous children's book selection.

If You Love Video Games, You Could Be...: Ready-to-Read Level 2 is a Level Two book which covers the difference between video game writers, animators, and game programmers. The word dialogue is spelled out phonetically which helps young readers.

The graphics and content are terrific!

For the kiddo who thinks they will grow up to play video games all of the time, this book has some good ideas about how video games are actually made and if you want to have a job doing "video games" how that might actually be accomplished. I like how it talked about what skills you might bring to different jobs in the industry (writing, animating, coding) while also alluding to some other jobs (producing, testing, translating). I'd almost like to see a part 2 of this book that goes a bit more in depth on these other jobs. Esp. since inevitably a kiddo says "well I'll be a tester!" and then you want to know what that involves, what skills you need, and what the challenges might be.

A simple nonfiction for easy readers. My video gaming-obsessed child found it interesting, but since some topics were only touched on briefly, it left her with more questions than answers. A decent introduction to the field.

Clever premise to this series that introduces kids to some careers and fields of study that relate to some of their favorite things. This looks at video game writers, animators, and programmers with a little detail and then mentions 5 other possibilities in the backmatter.

A brilliant way to introduce young readers to career options. I loved the approach, leading with different interests, rather than the career options. This seemed to flow more naturally for me and I think would be more intriguing to a child reader.
