Reggie and Me is a collection of thirty six tales starring the biggest asshole in Riverdale, Reggie Mantle.

I bought this during one of the many sales the Archie website has done during this pandemic. It collects the best tales from Reggie and Me #20-73.

Reggie is the biggest dickhead in the Archie cast and most of these tales end with his schemes biting him in the ass, which is quite satisfying. George Gladir and Al Hartley provide the bulk of the stories but there are a few other writers. Reggie puts poor Archie through the wringer, including the time Veronica asks Archie to drive them home while Reggie and Veronica make out in the back seat.

The artist list is a who's who of Archie heavy hitters from 1962-1974: Bill Vigoda, Al Hartley, Stan Goldberg, Harry Lucey, Bob Bolling, etc. There is a total lack of Dan DeCarlo in this but it's still a solid book as far as art goes. I have to say Al Hartley does the best Reggie in this, both in writing and in art.

Reggie and Me is a fun collection of Riverdale's premiere shitheel repeatedly getting his much deserved comeuppance. 4 out of 5 stars.

With the popularity of the TV show Riverdale, Archie Comics decided to bring back some old classic favorites as compilations. In the original Archie comics, Reggie Mantle was a troublemaker and loved to play pranks on Archie whenever he could. Reggie was also always trying to vie for Veronica's attention - a bit like on the current show. In later series, Reggie was redesigned as a nice guy but in the series of comic strips in Reggie and Me, we can see his true colors and original character coming through as no matter what the situation is - he always tries to one-up Archie Andrews. I have to say one of my favourite things about reading this novel was reconnecting with the OG Archie Andrews , who was your genuine nice guy and everyone's friend as in the later seasons of the TV show they changed Archie's character into a hardened cynic which shed the persona that we all grew up loving of the nice guy next door. Reading this in bed was fun this morning as it brought back childhood memories as I first discovered the Archie comics in the second-hand bookshops and Op Shops when I was 8-10 years old and of course, in two weeks I will be 32 years old, so a few moons ago now.

Reggie Mantle, Up to His Old Tricks

Reggie was always the most flawed of the Archie Comics characters, in my opinion, and this anthology of his greatest vintage moments demonstrates why. While entertaining, Reggie feels one dimensional to me - something that has a tendency to make him more annoying rather than humorous. His chaotic schemes grow old, and you find yourself wishing for more time with the other characters... away from Reggie Mantle. I imagine this is pretty close to how Archie, Jughead and the gang must feel about him all the time, so I will keep my Reggie critiques to a minimum. Reggie and Me is still lively and fun, and the title demonstrates correct grammar, so kudos on that. Today’s whippersnappers and their, “Me and So and So...”

This is a great collection of comics from 50 years ago. They all star Reggie Mantle, who is usually playing a prank on Archie. I laughed more than a few times before the book was halfway done.

Give it an extra star if you love Reggie. Unfortunately, it's pretty tiring to read a bunch of these stories all at one time. I suggest bookmarking and reading occasionally.
