The story Forbidden Love; Written by Lisa Jones Gentry, As Told by Joe Steele is a book that had me hooked from the very beginning. It tells the story of Father William Grau and Sister Sophie Legocki. They had an attraction to each other and fell in love in a time that a relationship between a black man and a white woman was not accepted. Not only that a relationship between a priest and a nun was not approved of

Defying the restrictions against interracial affairs must have been stressful enough but add to the fact that this is a story of love between a Black priest and a Polish nun...? Forbidden Love is more compelling and emotionally riveting than you'd expect from any fiction novel and yet this is a factual memoire. That Joe never had a chance to meet his father was a tragedy. But to have the time to spend with his birth mother, getting to know both of them and their story during his visits with her, ...more

Forbidden love written by Lisa Jones Gentry is the first book that I have read by this author and this book was unique and different to what I read. The characters are well written, but I was a little disappointed in them.

Let me start off by saying, I loved reading this book! It is a great story, and the fast that its a true story, makes it that much better. At first I was worried about the way it is written, a series of flashbacks, inside of flashbacks, and from 3 points of view. But Lisa Jones Gentry did a wonderful job keeping it all straight and making it flow smoothly. I highly recommend this book. It tells the scandalous story of how Joe Steele came to be. He is the product of a black man and a white woman, ...more

Title sounds like it is a lustful man and wife cheating. But in this scenario they are actually cheating on God. That is if you are Catholic and believe that ordained fathers in training and nuns should not be having sex. Period!

This book seems to make it more palpable and seem less naughty as if there is no denying their love and attraction for each other. Good excuse. (check box) They willing know they are breaking their vows, but the writer purports that God is okay with these "special" two.

Forbidden Love: Written by Lisa Jones Gentry: As Told by Their Son Joe Steele is a romance story that tells of two people who gave their vows to God but found love with each other in the process. The story is told in the son’s POV and is a tale of love and hate, a tale of people from completely different backgrounds and ethnicity and a son who struggled in the world. It is an emotional read as everyone struggles with the lives, they find themselves in. The book shows that love does not discrimin ...more

Forbidden Love:Written by Lisa Jones Gentry, As Told by Joe Steele is a story of forbidden love. It is a sweet romance story, but at the same time it is a story that makes your heart grow just a little bigger knowing the whole story. Joe Steele had a story to tell and Lisa Jones Gentry listened and wrote his story. There was a couple of strikes against Sophie and Billy. They both belong to the Catholic religion one as a nun and one as a priest. Not only is Billy a priest, but he is also a Africa ...more

Forbidden Love was a departure for sure from most novels I choose to read. However, identifying as Catholic I find myself drawn to stories that pertain to the faith. This book is the beautiful and heart-wrenching story of a priest and nun who find love with each other when they are supposed to be vowing their love to God. It of course goes against their very beliefs but sometimes love is stronger than anything else. It isn’t an easy road and the story is told from the point of view of the couple ...more

This story is about Joe’s birth parents and how he came to be . I found myself lost in the pages and couldn’t stop reading till the end. There were moments I had to grab for the tissues. Never have I ever read a book like this! This was a beautifully written story about Father Grau and Sister Legocki and their forbidden attraction. Not only is it a priest and a nun frowned upon to have any relationship but they fell in love during the time where it were a black man with a white woman would not be accepted in the eyes of society. I was completely hooked by this emotional journey and one I don't think I'll forget anytime soon! You grow to love these characters and I kept forgettin ...more

Forbidden Love by Lisa Jones Gentry is a brilliant story of two people who by design should not be connected and yet fate stepped in to change their lives.
I loved that this was all based on a true story. It really made me feel much more connected to the story and the characters. The author has an amazing way of telling this story that makes you feel like you are right there experiencing everything with them all.

Forbidden Love; Written by Lisa Jones Gentry, As Told by Joe Steele was a wonderfully written book. It was easy for me to fall into this story as Joe shared his biological parents’ story. As racism and bigotry rears its ugly head in America again, I am reminded that "acceptance" is a relatively new phenomenon when you look at the timeline of the country.

FORBIDDEN LOVE is the true story of a nun and a priest, told in past and present tense. This is a book that was told to the author by the man who was a product of the FORBIDDEN LOVE. This is a fascinating story and I found myself searching online for more information.

This is an intricate story that is riveting and one that I will

Forbidden Love; Written by Lisa Jones Gentry, As Told by Joe Steele was a very deep read. I give this book a four out of five stars. I found the time period captivating and the struggles very present. I was drawn in on pure emotion and struggled to keep it together through some parts. The point of view was unique and definitely adds an element to the story. The religion is there but I was more captivated by the characters, their lives, and the time period. I am not overly religious I knew just e ...more

This is a romance story about a couple who fall in a forbidden love relationship. This book took me on an emotional roller coaster of various emotions that kept me turning pages until the end. I had a hard time putting this book down once I started it. The characters are engaging and connectable. I enjoyed how this book was told in POV of the son and told with so much emotion. I highly recommend reading this book, it will pull at your heartstrings and warm your night.

I was unsure what I would find within these pages. But certainly I was unprepared for the emotional journey I would embark on these words. Emotional, and powerful, the book was a rollercoaster for me. I wasn’t sure how the story would unfold but found the plot fascinating and the characters very interesting. Given that this is a true story, I was intrigued to follow the plot to conclusion. I really enjoyed this book.

Forbidden Love is the kind of romance story everyone wishes they had. Told in the eyes of Joe, he recounts the story of his birth parents and how he came to be. Deeply touching, heartfelt and romantic, it's a book you won't want to put down! This book also does a good job of describing how the colored people were treated, while showing that we have improved as a society, there is plenty of room for improvement.

Oh, what a wonderful little love story this was. I love to see courage from real people in real life. It's a wonderful thing to see that there were some people that knew all along that there was only one race and it's the human race. In Forbidden Love by Lisa Jones Gentry as told by their son Joe Steele, the love and devotion of Sophie and Billy was truly inspiring. There are a few physical situations that might make some people uncomfortable, but it's tastefully done. This real-life story is b ...more

An intriguing true story, had it been written better I might have actually finished it. As the writing is terribly overblown, all I did was skim it and look at the photos.
