My great-grandfather wrote this, and I did not think anything of his was still in circulation.

While some may be offended by the characterizations and language used in this book we have to remember the era in which it was written.

Given that, this is a (to me at least) quite a well written book that reminds me of 'Alice in Wonderland'.
A young girl is sent to spend the summer with her grandparents (her grandfather seemes to have been a world explorer) in a large house (the description of which reminds me of the "Biltmore House" in Asheville NC) that has strange occurrences. After the young
This was a wonderfully imaginative book - I believe it was written in the early 1900's. I loved the personification of the furniture, especially the alligator (a green couch by day)! I couldn't give it more stars simply because the last chapter of the book was missing (on my Kindle)! I didn't much like this book. It took me almost a year to get through it on my kindle. I was expecting it to actually be a cat story and it's not that. It felt a lot like a Miyazaki sort of story, so if you like his films, you might like the style of whimsy in this book. As for me, I had a really hard time visualizing most of the characters, and the old style of narrative didn't do much for me.
