Friends With Benefits is the sequel to the very hot Maverick's Black Cat, where we first meet the smart talking Bailey and the serious Sebastian with the hidden kinky side. This book was a very well-written sexy read that really drew me into the characters and their story plus delivered some very hot sex scenes.
Bailey is an independent woman who knows what she wants in life - and what she wants right now is some hot sex but she isn't satisfied with the brawny self-centered men she normally dates. So she decides she should have sex with her friend Sebastian because he is totally different than her normal men - loyal, kind of quiet and a good guy. Sebastian was attracted to Bailey but only treated her as a friend because that seemed to be best for them. When she tells him her plan for them to be fuck buddies, he is less than pleased. He doesn't appreciate the casual way she wants to use him plus he doesn't think she can handle the way he is in the bedroom - a dominant man who likes to spank and occasionally tie up his lover. So he teases Bailey to the point where she is about to get off - then leaves her hanging. She is pissed but very intrigued by this new side of Bastian.
Bastian gets Cat to invite Bailey to a local club so she can see what he likes in the bedroom. In a private room, along with Cat and Mason, Sebastian sits with Bailey as they watch another couple do what he likes in the bedroom - a little spanking then some fun. Bailey is surprised by how much she enjoys watching it and is even more suprised to look over and see Mason and Cat having a little fun too. Things get hot and heavy between Bastian and Bailey, but the intensity of the love making scared Bailey so she doesn't talk to him for a few days since she has a tendency to run from emotions she can't handle.
Sebastian and Bailey start to work out a relationship of sorts that centers on their intense attraction for each other. Sebastian loves to control in the bedroom but he never takes it too far and he is always making sure Bailey is comfortable. Bailey is one hilarious strong woman so she can take whatever Bastian dishes out, usually with a funny quip back at him. She can accept his spanking and dominance in the bedroom but she has a big problem with him trying to have a deeper relationship with her. Bastian has intense feelings for Bailey but can she overcome a lifelong fear of relationships and dependence on a man in time to accept the love Bastian has for her?
This story was wonderful! I was laughing at times and needing a class of ice cubes at others. The relationship between Bastian and Bailey was very believable and well-written. Bailey's fear of relationships was a result of seeing her mother go through four marriages while using men to fund her lifestyle, so I can understand her reluctance to accept money from Bastian and her fear of admiting her feelings even to herself. Bastian was one of those quiet strong men who has a hidden kinky side that made him want to spank Bailey and screw the heck out of her. He was very skilled with his mouth and not at all selfish, so I can understand Bailey's intense pleasure at his hands. The spanking and dominance did not go too far, he mostly just uses his hand and a little bit of tying up. Bastian was very sweet with Bailey, he tried to be sensitive to her needs and feelings but he also knew he would have to push her a little bit so she didn't treat him as casually as she did her other boyfriends. He did one or two dumb things that pissed Bailey off but he honestly was just being a guy and they can't really help it, right? One thing about the story that is just not a big deal and I am glad - Bailey is African-American and Sebastian is white but it is never a big deal. Bastian justs sees her as an incredibly sexy woman.
Overall, I really ejoyed this story. It was emotional, sweet, funny and sexy as hell at times. This story includes some spanking, a little bit of bondage, two couples doing it in the same room (so voyarism but no touching by the other couple - do you think Mason or Bastian would share?), anal, a toy and one hilarious scene where Bailey accidently walks in on Bastian's lawyer co-worker getting a blow job and she notices that he has the biggest dick she ever saw (they don't call him Big Phil for nothing). Highly recommended but read Maverick's Black Cat by Lena Matthews and Maggie Casper first - both are hot, wonderful reads!

Sebastian is attracted to her but is insulted that she would find it easy just to use him for sex and not a relationship. He takes Bailey to the Boulevard Club so she can see what he would expect of her should they become sexually involved. Friends with Benefits has now taken over the top spot for my all-time favorite erotic romance. Forget content warnings. This book should have come with a health warning.;-) While reading it, I found myself literally short of breath and light-headed more than once. It had me feeling like I might spontaneously combust while simultaneously melting into a puddle of goo. This friends-to-lovers story had a surprising amount of emotional depth and a pretty decent plot for an erotic novel. I've discovered that erotic authors often have a tendency to put in just a few too many sex scenes, leaving my interest waning by the end, but that definitely wasn't the case here. I was fully engaged from beginning to end, because all the intense, scorching hot love scenes were interspersed with a good balance of great outside-the-bedroom scenes between the hero and heroine, as well as their interactions with the secondary characters. In fact, the one and only thing that wasn't quite my cup of tea was the group sex scene. Aside from that, everything made for a superb read that left me hot and bothered, emotionally enthralled, and wishing the story were longer, so that I wouldn't have to say farewell to Sebastian and Bailey.
Sebastian was almost sheer perfection in a romantic hero for me. I know it might sound strange, but occasionally, I can tire of all the gorgeous men in romance novels. Sometimes I just long for a hero who seems a bit more attainable, and Sebastian fit that bill perfectly. He is without a doubt attractive, but in a more subdued way. Bailey describes him as cute rather than all that Hollywood hotness, he wears glasses, and he's more average in height. I absolutely loved this dichotomy. By day, he's a relatively mild-mannered attorney and Bailey's safe, always dependable best friend (next to Cat). But when this tiger is turned loose, he becomes a jealous, protective dom with a kinky spanking fetish. Sebastian exudes an air of confidence that's close to bordering on cocky, but not quite. I simply found him too endearing for that. The authors also gave him a wicked sense of humor and a touch of vulnerability in the way that Bailey touches his emotions so deeply that he sometimes looses his carefully planned control. He was even the first to say, “I love you” even though she didn't hear him. I adored his protectiveness and need to take care of her in a kind of old-fashioned, “I'm the man you're the woman” sort of way even before they were intimately involved, and he does take care of her quite well in more ways than one. I also loved that his dominating behavior was never intimidating to me, and the spankings were never, ever intended to hurt or humiliate. Even when he was “punishing” Bailey, his love and deep desire for her still emanated from the pages. All in all, Sebastian was just too scrumptious for words, and has definitely earned a spot on my favorite heroes list.

Normally, a romance heroine who has slept around quite a bit and is forward enough to proposition her best friend when she can no longer bear her sexual drought would irritate me, but Bailey never did. I think the authors did a wonderful job of conveying Bailey's fear and confusion over the feelings that Sebastian stirs up within her, and with giving her a good reason for her reluctance to commit. Every time Bailey got riled up at Sebastian for some small thing, I thought she might cross that annoyance line for me, but then, the authors would show some of her deeply buried vulnerabilities and I would realize that she was simply scared out of her mind by what he was making her feel. Sebastian's patience finally won the day, chipping away at her defenses to expose some of her soft spots and then soothing them with his love. I also liked that in the beginning, when Sebastian begins revealing his kinks to her, she is confused and wary, but also spunky enough to be fascinated by it all and revel in the sexual freedom she feels with him. Overall, Bailey was a very relatable heroine who I really enjoyed.
I think one of the things that made Friends with Benefits such a wonderful story was all the great relationship dynamics. I liked that the authors took the time to address the race issue, and show just a small taste of the difficulties Sebastian and Bailey might face as an interracial couple. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite romance themes, and here the friendship was a very palpable thing. I loved the way this couple teased and bantered with one another. The hero and heroine of a romance butting heads and exchanging barbs is another thing I usually find grating, but here I loved it and found it to be utterly endearing. I also thoroughly enjoyed how they could talk and laugh and simply share things. It was definitely a true friendship in the deepest sense of the word that made them falling in love very believable. I also liked Bailey's friendship with Cat and her closeness with her mom. The dialog she shared with both of them was breezy fun. We don't get to see as much of Sebastian's guy relationships, but his other best friend, Mason, played a strong role in the story too.
Friends with Benefits is the second, and I had originally thought, last book in The Boulevard series with the first being Maverick's Black Cat which had featured Mason and Cat as the hero and heroine. However, after reading it, I can say that the ending definitely left open the possibility of another story. Sebastian's law partner, Phil, and Natalie, the owner of The Boulevard fetish club and one of Sebastian's clients were certainly admiring each other from afar and obviously wanting more. Even though Phil was a bit too smooth for my taste, Natalie caught my attention, so I wouldn't mind reading their story if the authors ever decide to write it. I was also hoping to see more of Sebastian and Bailey in their book, much like I did, Mason and Cat in this book, but sadly, I don't know if that will ever happen. It has been close to five years since Friends with Benefits was first released, and neither Ms. Matthews nor Ms. Casper have any announcements of another book in the works on their websites. Even if this does turn out to be the end for The Boulevard, it was a fabulous way to go out. Friends with Benefits will always have a well-earned spot on my keeper shelf, and I'll look forward to checking out the authors' other works.

Liked this one a bit better than the previous book in the series.
Bailey has a smart mouth and a big heart. She also has a crippling fear of commitment because of the example of her much married mother.
Sebastian and Bailey met in the previous book Maverick's Black Cat set up on a blind double date with that couple. They hit if off immediately but the possibility of romance is not there. The steam-pressed lawyer Bastian is simply not one of the Bailey's types. She likes them big, muscly and pretty. She also likes guys she can leave without a backward glance. However the two of them strike up a great friendship and often hang out together.
Lately though her regular types just aren't doing it for her.
After six months of enforced celibacy, Bailey is ready to do something drastic. She asks her best bud Bastian if he'd want to be her fuck-buddy.
Sebastian is insulted. He'd love to get with Bailey but not as a tissue she can discard when she is done. And although he appears to be a straight-laced, buttoned up lawyer, he really isn't. He has certain bedroom preferences that he isn't sure Bailey can handle, despite her sexual bravado.
So he decides to invite her to a local festive club and introduce her to his interests. It is an eye opener for Bailey who finds that she just can't resist this new side of Sebastian.
Just as in the previous book, the dialogue is what really stands out. Bailey and Sebastian snipe, argue, tease and joke so well and so naturally of course these two are destined to be together! The explicit sex scenes are smoking hot but the relationship between Bailey and Sebastian is what makes the book so enjoyable.

With a Mom that changed husbands like basketball players changed socks, Bailey Edwards' view on realtionships isn't one that includes a happily ever after.
But a girl still has needs, right?
It's just a question of how to have those needs met without getting involved in a realtionship.
So, what does Bailey do?
She propositions her best male friend, Sebastian.
Although he's always wanted to be more than friends, Sebastian Emerzian has decided that if being in a platonic relationship with Bailey Edwards is all he can get from her, he's fine with that. At least he was until Bailey does the one thing he never thought she'd do, she propositions him to have a "no-strings attached, friends with benefits" relationship with her.
But what Bailey doesn't realize is that when it comes to her, Sebastian doesn't do "no-strings attached" and he doesn't play fair to get what he wants and he wants Bailey. Preferrably naked, bend over and ready for the spanking he's been dying to give her.
"Friends with Benefits" for lack of a better term is a sweet book. Yes, it's sexy. But with the only conflict in the novel being a series of simple misunderstandings between Bailey and Sebastian, it lacks the emotional depth I usually look for in a book. Were it not for the sex, and yes, there's a lot of it, it's basically a sweet romance of boy meets girl, they both hide their feelings, they have a misunderstanding and it takes family and friends pointing out their confusion to get them back together again. In other words, it's a good book for a rainy day when you want a quick read. But it's an even better read if you combine it with "Maverick's Black Cat" (Ellora's Cave) by Lena Matthews and Maggie Casper, where we first meet Bailey and Sebastian.
But a girl still has needs, right?
It's just a question of how to have those needs met without getting involved in a realtionship.
So, what does Bailey do?
She propositions her best male friend, Sebastian.
Although he's always wanted to be more than friends, Sebastian Emerzian has decided that if being in a platonic relationship with Bailey Edwards is all he can get from her, he's fine with that. At least he was until Bailey does the one thing he never thought she'd do, she propositions him to have a "no-strings attached, friends with benefits" relationship with her.
But what Bailey doesn't realize is that when it comes to her, Sebastian doesn't do "no-strings attached" and he doesn't play fair to get what he wants and he wants Bailey. Preferrably naked, bend over and ready for the spanking he's been dying to give her.
"Friends with Benefits" for lack of a better term is a sweet book. Yes, it's sexy. But with the only conflict in the novel being a series of simple misunderstandings between Bailey and Sebastian, it lacks the emotional depth I usually look for in a book. Were it not for the sex, and yes, there's a lot of it, it's basically a sweet romance of boy meets girl, they both hide their feelings, they have a misunderstanding and it takes family and friends pointing out their confusion to get them back together again. 3.25 stars. Bailey Stanford and Sebastian Emerzian had been close friends for close to a year and for the past six months of that friendship, they went out for dinner, watched home movies together, or generally hung out because neither was in a relationship. Bailey decided to seduce Sebastian and propose to him that they add sex to their repertoire, aka, friends with benefits; Sebastian declined because he wanted a permanent and a more meaningful relationship that included really 'kinky' sex and not the 'vanilla' verity that she was use to. From that point, the story was all about the 'benefits' part and none of the romantic interaction expected from a romance story.

Bailey and Sebastian's story is all about two friends who decided that they wanted a little more from the relationship. One that includes sex, except Bailey wanted a casual relationship while Sebastian wanted a committed relationship.
Mild BDSM, some off the wall sex scenes is the gist of this book. It was just an okay read for me.

This is book two in a series. You can read them as standalone but it recommends that you read Maverick/Black Cat first and then you will will understand this story better. In the first story, this couple are best friends with first couple.
