First off, I'm so in love with the cover of this book I can't hardly stand myself!

I'm going to leave the book review at 3 stars for now, but will probably read it again when the book is released. I loved the story line. I loved Lira and Reyker as well as a few more side characters in the book. I just felt like there was something missing or too much of one thing.

There is a bit of grimdark in this book and some things are graphic more so than others. I loved the mythology and the feeling I was w

Jill Criswell undoubtedly nailed how Gods and Goddesses play with mortals on Beasts of the Frozen Sun! This is a fantasy based off of Celtic mythology and if you're a fan of the Vikings show.

This is a wonderful love story of Lira and Reyker who were doomed from the very beginning, as each belong in a different clan.

"You will chase what you cannot catch. You will love what you cannot keep, You will kill what cannot die."

Beasts of the Frozen Sun is a Viking mythology type of story centered around Lira and Ryker. It's obvious from the start, these two are destined for each other and great heroics and/or doom. Two young people who are essentially forced into situations and ideologies that are well beyond the scope of their lifetime and part of a much larger picture. The characters are excellent in their complexity, development and humanity. Interactions are engaging and entertaining. The story is mythical and dyna ...more

Plot (5 stars): As I talk about this book, you're going to realize that I love, love, love this book! I want to read it again!! So, this book is 368 pages. It did not feel like 368 pages though. The plot was not slow at any point. There was action, things were moving, it was beautiful. I loved every second of the plot. The world Criswell created was so complex. It reminded me a bit of the viking culture. I imagined How to Train Your Dragon the whole time I read it. I don't know if that's how the ...more

Beasts of the Frozen Sun is the first in a new fantasy trilogy about a girl touched by the gods, and a boy who is supposed to be her enemy.

I love books inspired by mythology and playing with gods, and I loved the narrative in this book around the two different stories about what happened so many years ago. Which god is the hero, and which is the villain? Which one of them is the traitor? And how does the mortal woman the gods

Beasts of the Frozen Sun was a beast of a read. 368 pages is a standard meal to me, but the book just seemed to be a behemoth--it was an impactful read for only 368 pages!

I loved slipping into the shoes of Lira, our soul-reading main character. Her experiences, told in first-person, felt like my own (a mark of great writing). I will say that being in Lira's shoes was a bit of work--there's a lot of laces and straps in the form of learning the mythology and setting behind the Land of the Frozen S

I really really wanted to love this one. The premise and the cover are amazing so I figured it was going to be a perfect fit. Where I did like the characters I had a hard time with the writing style, we just weren’t meshing. 😓

I can't remember the last time I've obsessed over a book this much. Even my recent The Wicked King obsession pales in comparison to what I feel for this book. And considering I'm already pretty obsessed with Holly Black's TWK, that says a lot. (My less than coherent review can be found here if you'd like to check it out.)

Oh Gods, what a glorious book!

I love everything Beasts of the Frozen Sun has to offer: the characters, the story, the pacing, the world building, the mythology, the magic system.
Even the brutal battle scenes and frightening aftermaths because even if most is just hinted at the scenery is real enough to read between the lines.

Jill Criswell's writing is beautiful, she brings unique characters to life and she knows how to create great chemistry between them.
Of course, I love Lira and Reyker the m

I absolutely loved this book. It was written so beautifully and brutally that it made me feel so many things. The imagery the author creates is outstanding. Lira and Reyker are both strong and fierce characters that are perfect for this book. I loved their romance. It was pure and passionate. This book has everything. I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you!
This novel was a great read and I could not put it down! There are constant plot twists and the author weaves a compelling tale. The story is mostly told from Lira of clan Stone 's point of view, but there is also some of Reyker's view as well. Lira can read souls as a descendant of Aillira, whom she was named after. Her father uses her to determine the truth from a person's soul to protect the clan. Lira is stubborn and strong i

I really enjoyed this book. It started off at a fast pace and ended at a fast pace. I was able to watch Reyker grow from who he wasent sure he was to the man he knew he wanted to be. We all love a strong willed lady and Lira has to be one of the strongest. Not only is she battling invaders but family and friends and her heart, who can she trust. I can’t wait for book 2 hope it’s quickly in the works. Kudos to the author I think this is there first book if so it’s a very good starter.

Wow, I was thoroughly blown away by this book. Within the first 10 pages I already knew I was hooked, and by the time I was ten chapters in I knew this was going to become one of my new favourite stories and worlds of all time. Criswell somehow effortlessly builds Lira and Reyker's world into something so vivid you almost forget that you're not a part of it, and the drama and stakes don't apply to you. The characters and their relationships were beautifully developed, nothing felt forced or rush ...more

This book was so enticing and it immediately takes you away into their world and the love story that unfolded between two unlikely heroes that come from two different worlds. It's just as beautiful as it is creatively written.

The main characters are written not only into this wonderful book but also into my heart!
Jill Criswell made an OTP with Lira and Reyker and I cannot wait to see how their story progress.

In this alluring novel, you follow a forbidden love, a strong female character, and a dark twisted Dragon who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

I'm not really a YA Fantasy guy, so it's hard for me to say how this novel compares to others in the genre. I have read the Song of Ice and Fire books, however, and I'll say that Criswell has managed to rival what George R.R. Martin does in terms of world building--feuds between rival clans, the clash of ancient religions, the power of monsters and magic--in a tenth of the word count. The book is tightly written and exciting; this writer knows her craft. On top of all that, in Lira and Reyker, w ...more

Lira falls in love with Reyker, a man from beyond her shores, in this young adult fantasy romance.

First, let me just say my eARC of Beasts of the Frozen Sun was poorly formatted. The dialog ran together multiple times, few of the sentences had proper formatting, and the page numbers were occasionally inserted into the middle of the page. It made for a very disjointed read. While I enjoyed the book enough to keep reading, my rating/review has most likely been impacted by the actual experience of
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this but I knew it was fantasy and the cover was beautiful... well... so was the story! I loved watching Lira fall for her "beast". What a tale full of adventure, magic and legends! There truly wasn't a dull moment. So many things happened in this book- things that made my heart shudder, break and swoon. This was a great fantasy book and I am so upset I have to wait for the next book! Loved this one!

Handsome fantasy Vikings! A great central romance, a little magic, and a lot of divine intervention. I believe fans of Juliet Marillier and Robin LaFevers may enjoy this debut. As well as YA fantasy readers who are in the mood for a story with a little more heft. If this sounds like you - add this book to your TBR pile. :)

I really enjoyed the world building and the unique story in Beasts of the Frozen Sun. The author also did a fantastic job with alternating chapter-POVs; she smoothly and thoughtfully alternated between 1st person POV and 3rd person! This is an ambitious and impressive feat!

This book... How do I rate this book?

I disliked the first half. I found myself constantly confused as to where the author was going with the story, what the plot was. I'm not sure I could easily just tell you what the plot was. Jill Criswell put a lot of time in building the history of her world, and I appreciated that. Unfortunately, she spent so much time on that, that I felt I didn't really know who the present, main characters were in comparison.

I loved the second half. The action, the roma
