Part three and the exciting conclusion to the epic fantasy romance serial trilogy, Rogue Dragon Rising, marking the beginning of the Outside the Veil series.
With no memories to guide her, Amari Hawke seeks to discover the identity of the animal trapped inside her. Days away from Trinity, when her beast will appear for the first time, she must learn to communicate with her animal or she’ll turn rogue from an unsuccessful shift.
Both Jaxon Blackthorn and his stubborn dragon have succumbed to Amari’s charms even though her animal designation is unknown. Determined to use the power of his beast, Jaxon faces the impossible challenge of saving Amari while protecting her from rogue shifters determined to capture her.
Can the strength of their love achieve what has never been attempted in the shifter realm, a successful transition of Amari’s animal and acceptance of her true heritage?
Biography As a child, TJ thrived in the Arizona desert. By the age of five she was riding horses through cotton fields and by eleven bought her first motorcycle, a Honda 125cc dirt bike. Growing up with teachers as parents meant traveling during the summer. Hiking, backpacking, fly fishing, climbing pyramids, surviving earthquakes, and flying in hot air balloons were just some of her adventures. An avid day dreamer, she would lose herself in mystical worlds and far off places limited only by her imagination. After choosing an academic scholarship over an athletic basketball scholarship, she graduated law school and accepted a position as a Deputy County Attorney. However, prosecuting felony crimes was not as exciting as she hoped, so she traded in her briefcase and the courtroom for a Glock and patrol car. She worked the road as a police officer for five years and now tells officers what to do as a policy writer for a police department. TJ writes from her heart by incorporating her dreams and experiences to create strong, passionate characters who must overcome personal flaws to survive against the challenges of traversing through magical realms, undiscovered planets, and apocalyptic catastrophes.
Alpha Dragon Awakes is book three in the serial series, Outside the Veil by T.J. Shaw. This is the conclusion to Jaxon and Amari’s story although T.J. has assured me there are many more stories to tell in this series! There are so many things going on in this third book that I was literally on the edge of my seat throughout. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what happens next!
Amari still doesn’t have her memory so she has no idea what animal lives within her. But, she’s convinced it must be a horrible beast. Someone had put up that barrier in her mind, trapping it, for a reason. When shifters are twenty three years old and the trinity happens, when all three of their moons are at their brightest, it’s when they shift for the first time. But they have prepared for this their entire lives. They already have a relationship with their inner beast. Amari has no idea what it is and wants no part of it. One thing Amari is sure of, though, is that she has fallen in love with Jaxon and her life here on his estate. If Jaxon can’t find a way to safely bring her animal out during the trinity, she will turn rogue. She would rather die than turn rogue and put Jaxon through that pain.
Jaxon is in love with Amari. She is his mate. Even though they haven’t completed the mating bond, the connection is still strong. Never has someone successfully helped a shifter through their first transition when they have no relationship with their animal, when they don’t even know what it is. But Jaxon’s skills are strong. He can do it. He has to do it because he can’t live without her. Somehow he just has to convince Amari to trust him.
In this book we get an even closer look at Amari’s parents and their cadre. They want their daughter back and can’t imagine why she hasn’t come home.
We also get to know Jaxon’s cadre much better and their intertwining relationship with him.
We also get to know who is behind the attacks on Amari, who wants her and why! He is a very, very evil person and I suspect that this is the story line that is going to carry through the future books in this series!
As I said before, everything is happening at the same time and it took my breath away. I stayed up past my bedtime because no way could I go to sleep last night not knowing how this ended. If you haven’t started this series yet, now is the perfect time since all three books will be out. This is such a fantastic world this author has created and I can’t wait for more.
Oh my gosh! This was a freaking amazing ending to this story!
Amari is in danger of going rogue once her transition is upon her. When Jaxon’s plan to help connect with her animal ends in almost disaster, she realizes she must take her own drastic steps in order to protect him. However, Jaxon is not one to let go without a fight and in this case that includes hunting her down.
This was a deep emotional read in regards to the mental connections Amari must submit to, and even initiate herself. Talk about romance! When Jaxon reaches her through their mental link there is nothing to describe the beauty of his care for her and her animal.
I’m absolutely in love with Jaxon and his cadre. They each bring a different flavor to the story along with a deep sense of loyalty and brotherhood. In addition, they supply just enough humor to lighten the heaviness of fear and worry that surrounds what the future holds for Amari. This story does take a turn towards the end that I wasn’t a fan of and I have to admit, I hope future books do not go in the direction these scenes hinted at. Some readers will absolutely love it, and I will say they are beautifully written with intense depth and emotion, but they are not to my particular taste.
The drama in this installment of the trilogy is lessened as it deals mostly with Amari’s transition being what I consider mid-angst rather than heavy. There are a few loose ends that I hope will be closed in future books…please let there be future books! The pace is smooth and fluid, the heat level while not prevalent throughout, when it arises it ranges from that wonderful soul stirring this-is-love type of steam to full out heat of volcanic proportions.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys dragon shifters, this one has enough that your heart will sing!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Once again, T.J. Shaw has dug deep into her creative pool and scored another wildly emotional, highly original and completely mesmerizing tale of love, trust and determination!
ALPHA DRAGON AWAKES-PART 3 continues and intensifies Amari’s fears of going rogue as the time grows ever-closer to her transition. With no memories, how can she know what her inner beast is? How can she create a bond of trust and friendship to avoid being overpowered? Although he is determined to save Amari during her shift, what if Jaxon was destroyed along with her? How can she keep Jaxon safe? Sometimes love hurts so much…what seems like the right thing to do can be a soul-crushing mistake.
I forgot Amari was a character, I was so enraged for what had been done to her memories in the name of love. Her beast is another victim, totally innocent and trapped!
Once again, Jaxon is that hero, that alpha with a heart and honor. Pretty sure when they were handing out self-confidence, he took two helpings, and yet, how much is to give Amari the strength she needs?
T.J. Shaw knows what real romance is, because she has created it here in spades! From the beginning of this book to the perfectly plotted ending, this one had me, heart and soul!
Everyone needs a Jaxon in their lives to be their strength when they are weak, while still strong enough to admit that that strength wouldn’t exist without shared love! Paranormal or not, this is romance at its deepest! (Although I must admit, dragons are pretty hot, period!)
I received a complimentary ARC edition from T.J. Shaw!

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I do plan to collect this set when it is in one set.
The cover is beautiful and awesome is every detail!
This is the 3rd part of this story, and it is for adults only due to the steamy content. It is a must for you to read the parts in order because the three parts are all part of the same story.
I loved every second of this whole story. There is so much going on, passion, romance, mystery, treachery, and more. I love both Amari, Jaxon, and their families. This is a unique world that pulls you in; you will want more each time because I know I do. I especially love their HEA, and I suspect there will be a lot more in the future about their nest and the Hawke nest. I’m excited to see what comes next.
I highly recommend to any shifter fan who wants something new, unique, and amazing!!
With only a few days before Trinity, both Amari and Jaxon are panicking. They’re afraid Amari will shift without knowing her animal and turn rogue. In a desperate attempt, Jaxon seeks help from an unlikely source. It backfires and Amari flees. Her animal takes her over and Jaxson must use all his strength to bring her back from the brink of madness. At this moment, Amari’s father returns to bring her back home. Her memories comes flooding back and she knows who she is. Amari has a choice: go home with her father and never return or stay with Jaxson and risk going rogue. No matter what she chooses, everything she’s ever known crumbles around her. Will it be her home with her family or will it be in Jaxon’s arms?
Holy dragon’s breath, this final part in the Outside the Veil serial is the best one yet! I think I held my breath the entire time reading. Action, romance, twists and turns had me whipping through the pages to a startling conclusion. This is so much more than a shifter romance; it’s about choosing to be your true self, no matter the risks. There was a point in the story where all looked lost and I couldn’t help but shed a few tears. Emotional, gripping, soaring fantasy romance I couldn’t put down.
How hot is this romance? Well, I’d say it’s pretty hot. If you like reverse harem, this is right up your alley.
If you’re looking for a heart wrenching fantasy romance, pick this up today! I’m hoping (fingers and toes crossed) there’ll be more in this series or a spin-off to a new series with some of the same characters. Highly recommend!
Favorite Character/Quote:
“I enjoy having you astride me,” Jaxon murmured just before leaping skyward.
The air rushed from her lungs, although she wasn’t sure if her sudden inability to breathe stemmed from the force of the jump or Jaxon’s whispered confession.
This was by far my favorite book in this trilogy. Mostly because it felt like a real book (it was significantly longer than the first two). That being said, the pacing of this series was a little off to me, we go into this book with nothing really happening yet, h doesn't have her memory, she hasn't transformed, still no idea whats happening with the Rogues running around killing people, and no real development in the romance department. So the fact that most of this happens in this book made it feel like more of a story. But my real question is, is there going to be a sequel series or something? Because the entire plot about the rogues and the mad scientist wasn't wrapped up at all. Also I'm not sure how I feel about the slight reverse harem thrown in at the end. Overall this was a fleshed out fantasy world, with a fun romance. And who am I kidding I'm a sucker for dragons.

I’ve been stalking this author since ‘Caller of the light’ and love her work. When I found out she was writing another dragon novel of course I jumped all over it with an open mind. Part 1 and 2 were great but I felt part 3 could’ve been added into part 2. By the time Amari and Jaxon does have sex I’m not interested and skipping over it. There is added info that is good to know for the potential next book in part 3 but really isnt needed. To be honest after part 3 came out it took me a while to purchase it because i was content with how part 2 ended 🤷🏽♀️
This was an awesome, exciting, lol series! I loved how everything evolved and pulled together. There were a few unexpected but totally awesome sexy surprises. Will definitely look for more from this author.
A few reviewers have complained that this book turns into a reverse harem, after showing signs of only being fated mates. It kind of does, but only in a dream sequence. So don’t be put off! Very good writing and a great end to the story.
We return to Amari dealing with so many changes. Her beastie, her lack of communication with Jaxon, her family. How can she survive? I insanely liked this one and enjoyed all of it. So needed more.
Had to read this one as soon as I finished the second. Yes, it was worth it. They were all short stories, but this one was a bit longer. Enjoyed all of them.
