Rumors fly about kurakvin raids. The short, strong, and bloodthirsty kurakvin haven't been seen in the kingdom since the last war with them, long ago.
The king won't acknowledge the rumors. Nobody can show proof, not even his own wizards, although his trust in the wizards is fading fast.
Amid the chaos, Kreltahk laughs. He knows an opportunity when he sees one. He knows the kurakvin have returned. And he knows how to use them to serve his goals.
Kreltahk's goals are Rule the land and everyone in it. Showing mercy is optional.
Few will pay attention to a young boy from a remote fishing village. Few will be prepared for the surprise that is coming.
2 stars for everything else. Characters were very basic with no "quirks". The story itself was so fast paced that no concept of time was achieved by the reader or resolution. Aka like riding a rollercoaster that has no drops. The viewpoint of the reader switched between the characters too quickly. This led to a jumbled mess of plots. I only realized that some characters were in a major scene until after it had passed.
Bought for the sale price of $0.99, would not pay more for this quality of story. Would recommend the author make this book available on Kindle unlimited to reach more readers and receive more feedback.
There are several life lessons interweaved amongst the sword and sorcery.
Parent note: There is some violence. The one "adult word" references a place. Feel free to read the book before deciding if it is appropriate for your child.
Kreltahk has been hiding a secret. When it is revealed a few are taken by surprise including his closest friends.
I really enjoyed watching this story unfold. I think the differences in the personalities might "ring bells" with the school-going generation.
Disclaimer: I was provided an advanced reader's copy of this. Above are my honest opinions and insights.
What a great start to the series. I can't take much time reviewing this part of the story, because I am eager to start book 2! This story has so much action in it, it is difficult to calm myself to sleep. Don't miss this exciting fantasy adventure!
Reading this gave me feelings of nostalgia, despite it being a fairly new book. It’s written in the vein of the classics, with old school prose and long, winding tales. Loved it, can’t wait for more.
